John Keim of ESPN.com reports that outside linebackers coach Greg Manusky will interview for the coordinator job. Manusky joined Jay Gruden’s staff last year after spending four years as the defensive coordinator for the Colts. Manusky, who played for the Redskins in the late 1980s, has also been the top defensive coach for the Chargers and 49ers.
I don't know because he didn't want ex-Redskin Todd Bowles. Yes, I'm still pissed off about this.

I don't think Bowles was leaving his job for another DC job when we was a hot HC canidate.

We'll never know because Gruden hired Joe Effin' Barry without even interviewing Bowles or Phillips or anyone else, which is probably why no one wants the job now.
Gus Bradley isn't coming here. That's a pipedream.
Gregg Williams would rather work in Cleveland than in D.C.
I'm convinced experienced coordinators don't want to work for Gruden.
It seems they all have one thing in common: They don't think he knows what the hell he's doing.
Interviewing anyone named Ryan isn't due diligence. It's scraping the barrel.

I will take your word for all of this; I never knew he didn't interview Bowles or Phillips when he hired Barry ---- what an idiot. I wonder if Gruden is the type of coach that would hire inferior coaches on the DEF side so that his side (OFF) looks better of the two..... Sort of a defense mechanism so that he wouldn't get fired and replaced by his DC. I see that at my office --- I have the belief that some people at my firm hire candidates they know they're better than so those candidates don't quickly climb the ranks and leapfrog them within the firm. And hiring any Ryan is a mistake ---- and one that could cost Gruden his job.

That being said, I think Gruden knows that the DC decision will most likely make or break his future employment here. He NEEDS a good DC ---- because if he gets one and our OFF gets to a mediocre level (assuming a Cousins deal is worked out), this team will be a playoff team and he'll get an extension. I, however, have no clue why he didn't just offer Wade the day he fired Barry (although I think Wade and McVay had a standing agreement for a long time). I am not a huge fan of the "exhaustive" search.

The NFL coaching pool is a small world and Gruden has been around the block --- by the time he fired Barry, he should have had a list of 3 candidates ready, interviewed them on 3 consecutive days followed by subsequent phone interviews if necessary and made a decision. Then again, this "wait" may be because certain candidates are waiting until certain HC decisions have been made.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Well he left Philly for AZ a year before Gruden got the job here. I don’t see him making a lateral move to come here? Did Gruden even interview any other DC before keeping Haslett on staff? I do agree with everyting you said!
As for McVay having an inside track to Phillips…maybe…interesting that his son left to join McVay as well.

Really, because he was scheduled to interview with us on Friday, when the word broke on Thursday that he was going with McVay to LA. :hmm:

I don't think we still interviewed him. I wonder why no deal announcement. Maybe his agent is working out the numbers.

I don't know about Bowles, but we definitely did interview Phillips the last time. They just passed him over for Barry.

Doesn't matter who they get because the life span is 2-3 years tops, maybe less since Gruden will be the next to go. We all know how this works.

If the former, that's what was reported as of my post. If the latter, do you hold out any real hope for him? The signs are not particularly good. The only good sign is that he's still technically unsigned.

Maybe he's waiting for his son to go there. Maybe we should promote his son.

ABR - anyone but Ryan
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The Washington Redskins are set to interview former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman for the same position
The search continues...

No kidding. Kinda weird. I'd've thought we'd be a good landing spot for a DC. Don't they like to work for teams that have good offense.

I'm thinking more and more that Jay doesn't want to feel threatened. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm thinking they don't want to work under a coach that only has two years on his contract and may very well be coaching for his job next year.
Yesterday the Texas refused to let Crennel talk to the Skins...translation, he doesn't want the job.

Taking a DC or OC position on a team where the HC is on thin ice.. is the perfect scenario to jump to that interm HC position and possibly keep it though. I don't think jays status is a big factor.

Personnel and $$$ would be my top priority

That was the reason Wade Phillips wasn't interested and took the LA job.... at least the former.

I am beginning to think that we should just hire Manusky and focus on our DEF personnel in the upcoming draft/FA. Then, once we have an improved DEF, we can get a top flight DC. After all, I am not sold on any of the remaining DC candidates.

Is Wilks still in the conversation???

Someone who can turn two rookie dbs into a formidable duo has my vote. I think bout dbs are better then we saw this year. Particularly Breeland. Scheme and play calling was VERY suspect this year.. I'll never forget the announcers calling Barry out during the dullass 2.0 game, saying there is no way you give this team a cover two right there, that Barry was asking for trouble... and sure as *sh$t* we give up a td.

We have athletic players... while they aren't all pro bowlers, I firmly believe the right scheme and better play calling catapult this current D into the top half of the NFL, if not top ten.

Of course some key fa signings and a stellar draft performance can't hurt!

not as worried about who the DC is as I am about how we get enough good players on D because we need a bunch ... I do think we will be more active in the FA market but they have to be young and we have to get V lucky because nobody is letting a good, young player walk
