Re: DRAFT DAY THREAD.....2015
Here's my prediction: the board and media is going to crucify McCloughan, saying, Williams was the obvious pick to make, and if you wanted to take Scherff, then you should have traded back 2-3 spots even for not that many extra picks.
On the one hand, this pick looks a little like we reached and drafted need over BPA. This could be interpreted as a sign that Snyder is pulling puppet strings still.
On the other hand, this is exactly the kind of thing I thought we might see. A pick that looks like a reach to most people, but which is indicative of how McCloughan's board diverges from other people's boards.
Between these two scenarios, I suspect that we are seeing BPA at work. I bet that McCloughan really didn't think Williams was the best player on the board. I hope we get to hear more about it from the Skins themselves.
On the other hand, I could be wrong. But that's my prediction, anyway.

At least Williams went to an AFC team. I'd have been really pissed if we had to face him this season when we play Chicago.

Surprise surprise an olineman. I would have figured our GM wouldn't need any seeing as the stats said we were fine in online last year
Believe me guys we did the right thing.

I was hoping to trade down with them but they must not have been interested or didn't offer enough.

Maybe but just speculation for now. For all we know he was the top guy on Scot's board.
DarthMonk wrote:riggofan wrote:SKINS#1 wrote:With the focus on signing defensive players, I would guess that SM has his sights on a couple offensive lineman he thinks will be available in the draft.
I don't think there has been a "focus on signing defensive players". The team reached out to a few offensive linemen earlier this week included some right tackles, but those players were mostly signed back to their teams. I think the focus has been on signing the best available, relatively young players to sane contracts.
For that reason I think the approach to the draft will be the same. Draft the best player you can get when its your turn to pick.
I could kinda go either way on this. Scot may have decided his BPAs are different from those of other GMs and they may be on the OL. This could have influenced what he's been doing in FA.
Would a trade allowing us to get both the top 2 OL in this draft be feakin' sweet or what? Imagine landing 2 (or 3) from among Scherff, Collins, Flowers, and Peat.
Regardless, I'm not disappointed.

I hope that's right, but I have to be a little skeptical. Probably should just trust in Scot, and hope he knows what he's doing.

I don't know what else I can do right now but assume that he's in charge and we are seeing his BPA approach at work. If it's Snyder pulling something, then all hope is lost that McCloughan was ever going to do something for us. It could be that in a couple of years we'll look back and see this as a classic McCloughan move.
Re: DRAFT DAY THREAD.....2015
The OL just got better, I thought we'd go with DL but I like this pick. Daniel Snyder didn't make this pick I love it. The GM thinks big guys win football games and he picked the best OL on the board, a road grader run blocker who also pass block. This is a patient long term thinker pick, totally unlike the quick fix Snyder ways, I am very encouraged. Williams would have helped also but this pick really represents a different mind set so I am pleased.

I was drooling at the possibility of the most terrifying d line in the league... Bookend OTs will be nice... But not close to the terror that d line would have caused in Romo's eyes...

I guess its entirely possible that Williams was not top of our board. Potential shoulder issue, maybe Scot heard some things during his interview that made him feel like he didn't have the drive.
On the flip side Sherff seems like a good ole boy kind of like Kerrigan, guy that just wants to play hard for the TEAM and win games. Scot emphasised team a lot in the past couple times we heard from him.

I like who was taken just wonder at 5. But oline wasn't deep. Might as well get top guy. Redskins put in the pick fairly early

He did the same thing with the 49ers that is how he built that line. The said he reached then. He knows what he is doing. I would have been fine with Williams but finding someone to trade back with and missing out on someone that might play RT or could play guard might be tough to find. Be happy!!!! I am

Re: DRAFT DAY THREAD.....2015
Well also Williams is much more built for a 4-3 DE, so scheme definitely comes into play.
Vic Beasley is way undersized for what Scot likes.
Id easily argue BPA Sherff over Kevin White
We may not have gotten any decent offers from teams willing to reach for Williams, so we went with our BPA.

Thought Williams was BPA...that said (it pains me to say this) a few of the Cowboys OL picks were seen as a stretch??

Re: DRAFT DAY THREAD.....2015
I'm starting to wonder if Tennessee taking Mariota might be just a place holder until they could work out all the details of a trade to the Smeagols a la the Phillip Rivers/Sheli maneuver the Bolts pulled with the vaGiants.

I think you're talking a lot of sense.
Really, Williams was the only guy I had in mind when we were on the clock. I happen to like Beasley too, but I can appreciate that he might have been undersized for what McCloughan wants to do.

I saw Schefter report that top three players on the Redskins board were:
1) Fowler
2) Amari Cooper
3) Brandon Scherff
Took the top player on our board.
And I seriously hope you're not going to point out that we happen to "need" every player we draft this weekend. We freaking "need" every position.
