Purely economically (and a bit cynically), beating your wife doesn't (potentially) remove a desired commodity (i.e. offensive stars like a WR) from that game and possibly others with a concussion. Also, NFL isn't being sued by former and current player's wives over domestic violence, they are, however being sued over the long term effect of concussions. So coming down hard on a knocker out of women isn't nearly as important as coming down on a knocker out of money making stars (i.e. offensive ones).
Yeah, I recommend shying away from these Player X - Ray Rice comparisons. It's not the NFL's job to administer justice in the case of Rice, but it falls almost entirely on them when it comes to on-field incidents.
Not according to Roger.

Its hard not to compare the two, but I think you're making a fair point. I'd actually prefer the NFL to stay out of "off field incidents" entirely. Let the legal system deal with Rice, and allow the Ravens to decide whether to punish him or not.
Agreed. I'd especially like to see the individual clubs handle suspensions.

As usual, Goodell is wrong, but this is what the people are demanding, so I can see why he did it.

you really have not being paying much attention - Meriweather has had an OBVIOUS issue with the way he tackles and the only thing that matters, at this time, is if the hit is deemed 'legal' by the NFL - there is VERY obviously some helmet to helmet contact and Meriweather CERTAINLY is not going to get the benefit of the doubt when that happens because of his past history - this is understandable - wake up people - this kid has to make a major change and if he cannot he's hurting the team
NO player should be playing if his actions end up hurting the team - NONE
So how many times has Suh been suspended for blatant hits long after the whistle? Hits that clearly had no purpose other than to injure?

This... I'd love to see Merriweather get the clue, but the reality is, his hits have ALWAYS been football plays. Unlike Suh, and a certain former mouthbreather who took Snyder's money, and then wallowed on the field for the skins, Merriweather has always made his hits between the whistles, never stomped a players face. There is a double standard... but the bottom line is, Merriweather has had his warnings... multiple times... the rule sucks (IMO)... the enforcement sucks... but anyone in Merriweather's uniform should have seen this coming.

He has a history and it doesn't matter if he was trying to follow the rules and the receiver put HIS head down or not. Clearly there is a biased judging on this. It wouldn't matter if his head was up and an accidental collision of heads happened. I predict that if he has another close one he is out even if the tape shows once again there was no intent. Yet there are others in the league that get a fine or a slap and it is ok. I wonder why? Could it be who they play for?

If you had the authority to sabotage the Redskins defense especially after they displayed they can play some D, what position would you try to hurt? I wonder what an upstanding man like Mara and his goons would do?

Just like when Robert got his knee taken out by the Ravens. I forget his name but I don't blame him. He was trying to lay the wood on him and hit his knee and took it out. That wasn't his intent and he didn't get the fine either even though he propelled himself like a freaking missile.
Did he try to wrap him up with his arms? They aren't playing tag football for crying out loud.

[Maybe I got this totally wrong and Merriweather is a dirty player not trying to change his game and his intent is to always take out the opposition. All the other examples of other players are what they are. They are just examples of simple mistakes that can be corrected unlike our guy.

It ticks me off that some of our own fans think this way.

Merriweather is an aggressive player in an aggressive game, the league is making an example of him. Godell is becoming a little Hitler, like suspending Rice for domestic violence. That is none of the leagues business. What will Godell regulate next, Rap Music by players? - can't have that, gang imagery best suspent them. Can't have tattoos, they are offensive. The hair has to fall within approved guidelines. Godell has his own personal kindom, he is the one that needs regulating.

Ngata didn't aim for, or hit, Bob in the knee. I was a perfectly valid hit on a QB running down the field. He hit him in the thigh, and Bob's leg whipped around and hyperextended the knee.

Merriweather should start going for the knees of opposing receivers. Rip up a few ACL's .. that's totally legal in the NFL.

Immature? That's debatable. Uninformed? Not by a long shot.

...In fact,MANY NFL Players anticipate an increase in knee injuries that will the direct result of this... the question posed by many is "do I want to see my career immediately ended by a knee injury, or do I want to take my chances on a concussion?" There will be a trade-off... and more rules intended to handicap the defense will be the result.

Darn close enough that I think you catch my drift. I actually said

I do think the NFL is creating a problem with this in that players might end up being hurt or hurting another player by trying to make players go low rather than high - I do NOT agree that a player will intentionally hurt another player - that's how I 'interpreted' the post
