Why would anyone want to pad his posts?
Well, I think the posts should be padded in case someone runs into one. Of course, it's not like the good ole days when the goal posts were smack on the goal-line.

And there were two on each goal line.

There are ONLY 2 things that a kicker needs to do
ONLY 2
kickoffs have to be deep or through the end zone
AND - MOST IMPORTANT ...
NEVER, EVER miss an extra point
Forbath is NOT a good kicker

Please! You can't call a block a miss. In my mind Forbath has been perfect.

6 for 6 for FGs overall and in today's weather kicking 40 yarders and kicking last week in the windy Met stadium. Not bad.
Forbath is a good kicker.
Haven't heard the explanation for the missed (lowly kicked) extra point.

would someone please look at the kick and give an honest estimate
that kick was not blocked - simply put it never got 'high enough' from impact
that is a bad kick
I'll agree that Forbath is not a bad kicker but .. he certainly needs to work on some things to be considered a 'good' kicker
I love it when fans here do not 'see' what really happens on the field ...

You people cry about everything. Kai Forbath is a good kicker thusfar. He's making Field Goals. XP was blocked. He will be the first to admit that he needs to get stronger on kickoffs. But, we can live with that. He's better than Gano & Cundiff. Cundiff kicked Touchbacks but couldn't make kicks. Same with Gano-Good. Stop whining

If you look at my post. It says lowly kicked:

The question I have is was there something wrong with the snap or hold. He did kick it low and it was blocked, but it was blocked because it was kicked low.

Funny (as in strange) that Shawn Sushiam is doing so well on yet another team. I hate it when we give up on someone and they go off to be really good elsewhere.

I'm glad we have Forbath
I'm not whining - Forbath just needs to get his kick-offs deeper or we'll bring in a kicker that can make FGs and extra points AND deep kick-offs
That's ALL a kicker has to do - if he can't do that he's not really a good kicker
Suisham does not have the leg that Forbath does and he can get the kick-offs deep

By the time Suisham was let go from the Skins, he had earned it. It's painful to see players that flop here be successful elsewhere, but what can you do? Stick with a guy that's missing 23-yard game-winning attempts?

John Keim on the extra point that was blockedI know the special teams again had issues, but when it comes to the kicking game it’s tough to blame a coach for a placekicker who kicks way too low
You happy now SJ?

thanks -
I was just really pissed at the time - the kick was technically 'blocked' but as you pointed out (and I saw) the kick NEVER would have made it over the bar
I do like the fact that Forbath has done well with the FGs the past few weeks ...
HOWEVER
all this kid needs to do is kick and he apparently can kick the ball a decent distance or he would not make 40+ yard FGs
find out what it takes to kick the kick-offs deeper and do that - this is not hard to do
Suisham (for one) does not have near as good a leg as this kid ...
and he's older
rant over

Forbath appears to be the polar opposite of Cundif - Forbath, so far, is deadly accurate with a strong leg on FGs, long and short, but can't kick off deep. Cundif could (notice the past tense) kick the ball deep on kick offs, but couldn't make a long (or short) FG to save his life (career).
Don't understsnd it. Forbath does say that he didn't have to kick off in college, so it seems that he might be able to improve with more practice.
He did nail a couple of directional kicks yesterday.
From what we have seen so far, we definitely want to give this kid a chance to get better with his weaknesses.

G'day DUDE - maybe you missed that I like how dependable Forbath is as a FG kicker
now ... DUDE - humor me a little - did you see the extra point?
did you notice (as Red_One and I did) how low the kick was .. ? the ball would have gone under the bar if it had not hit someone
as you aptly put it "NUF SAID" - DUDE
on a slightly different note - Forbath needs to find a way to kick the kick-offs deeper or get another job - NUF SAID

K Kai Forbath had an extra point blocked. That appeared to result from a low kick, an assessment Mike Shanahan agreed with. However, Forbath connected on field goals from 48 and 45 yards in miserable conditions. And consider that Forbath’s 48-yarder was into the vaunted open end of Heinz Field.
“That’s a guy taking advantage of an opportunity,” Shanahan said. “For a guy to come in and do what he’s done and never been in the National Football League is pretty impressive to me.”

I know what you're saying SkinsJock, that kick did look low. But the big thing I noticed when I watched that replay was that two Steelers got completely behind the o-line before Forbath ever touches the ball. One of those guys gets around Golston before he even gets his hand out of the dirt!!! It looks like maybe he didn't hear the snap or something?

You should definitely take a closer look at the replay. I don't think the kick was low as much as two Steelers were five yards closer to the kicker than they should have been.
Kickoffs need to be better, but the kid is nailing his FGs (and Heinz field is supposed to be a crappy place to kick). We should be happy about that. Surely they can work on his ability to kick the ball out of the endzone on kickoffs.

Rich Campbell, Washingotn Times, is reporting that Shanny assessment is that it was a low kick.
The video does show that the Steeler got penetration through Golston and that was a factor for the low kick being blocked. We have seen many low kicks make it through the uprights, so
without the penetration, it appears the XP is good. NFL.com lists the kick as blocked so I believe that
offically the kick was blocked.
Every once in while a kicker is going to have a low kick especially in sloppy conditions, but Golston's play is inexcusable and since this keeps happening to the Skins, somebody needs to be held accountable.
Thanks for posting the video.

I'll give Forbath a break ... for now
but ..... I will be back to this on 11/19 if this kid is not banging his kick-offs deeper
THAT is all he has to work on - find a way to get the kick-offs high OR into the end zone

When he's asked to kick into the corner, he's much better. Even kicks farther that way. Dunno why Danny hasn't noticed this.
I'd like to see him kick deeper straight away too but, the fact is, this rookie has made 1 rookie mistake so far. The last several vets we had in here were making rookie mistakes more than once per game. He hasn't cost us a game yet like the last few kickers. I'll wait til then til I jump on him. I do see what youre saying though.

He did not kick off in college, they had a specialist so I give him a break on the lack of deep kicks. HOpefully it will get better. The extra point aside (which was awful) he has been solid and hopefullly kicks for the Skins for a long time
