Did we really just witness that? It was awesome.
Yes ... I did say we had a good chance, and I got a ration of ^%# for saying so. But I'm used to it from all of the years I kept saying Jason Campbell would never be a successful starting QB.
Here's the deal ... what has been missing in the Redskin Equation since FOREVER is a top tier QB. Year after year ... we needed a new line ... new receivers ... changed coaches, changed players .... every excuse imaginable was used to avoid or deny reality. That reality being that a top tier QB can change EVERYTHING.
Last year was the same old same old ... we just were not a good team, and it wouldn't matter who the QB was. This year? same old story ... the O-line will be a problem ... the secondary sucks ... we have no chance to beat a "great team" like the Saints.
Reality? Here's the reality ....
A fine QB does this:
Makes plays when you need them, like those critical 3rd down throws to make a 1st, when the game is on the line and you need to run the clock. It's the difference between winning and losing.
Puts the balls where receivers can actually make yards after the catch, instead of falling down just to make the catch (it was never the receivers before, but inaccurate passers ... for many years)
Extends plays, makes 1st downs and avoids 3 and outs that keeps the other offense off the field, and allows your defense the rest they need to be at their best at crunch time in the 4th QT.
Puts up points ... this game isn't about yards or how many completions you have ... just points. That's what wins.
Inspires the entire team to perform at their highest level, with confidence knowing that they don't have to single handedly win the game or keep the opposition to under 14 points to have a chance to win.
Every team that is successful has a great QB ... those that don't have one, don't succeed ... and they don't beat other great teams with great QBs on their home field.
The biggest difference between the 2011 Redskins and the 2012 version is that we now have .... after decades of trying to succeed without one ... a future great QB that is pretty damned good already.
It's scary to think how good this kid will be in year 3 ... if he's this damned good in game one.
Gotta love it ... hail to the Redskins. And if Joe Gibbs had had a QB like RG3 ... he would have won 6 Super Bowls instead of three.
