Can't know for sure, but AA has certainly been on the likely to be cut list all month long. Sounds like a win to me if you can get a player for a player you were going to cut anyway. What's the harm in bringing a player who knows your scheme already in to kick the tires?

I would agree if we didn't just cut Hightower, who's better in pass-pro and loved it here in D.C. I don't see Slaton as an upgrade to Hightower and to me, unless he is an upgrade, this trade doesn't help the team at all and now takes back a roster spot that appeared to be headed to a different position.

Also, per , the Redskins have informed LB Bryan Kehl that he will be released if the Redskins can't trade him.
Glad for "Boomstine!" I love any player that can hit!

I hope not, I liked Slaton out of college but he couldn't make it in Houston so i'm not sure why he'd make it here in the same scheme with a worse o-line than Houston's. If this is the case, i'd much rather have just kept Hightower.
Unless Hightower is still injured.

As far as I am concerned you called the Hightower cut awhile ago. Doesn't matter that you changed your mind for your final 53. None of us are coaches - so no way to keep up with what they think.

I'd need to read up on the new IR/PUP rules but i think they could have kept Hightower even if still recovering. If they wanted 4 RB's that makes more sense to me then bringing in Slaton but I guess the coaches see something. I'm just not a Slaton fan and can't get out of my head his boneheaded kick off return against the Skins when he fielded it at the 1 yard line and stepped out of bounds.

I can't disagree with any of that, but from what I hear Hightower has been limping aroung Redskins Park and he may possibly return after week one when the team is no longer locked into his full salary.
If Slaton doesn't work out if one of the other RBs gets hurt HT might be right back.
Personally, I don't think he fits the ZBS. He looks lost trying to decide how or when he should make a cut.

I'm pretty sure the deal with the new IR rules is that you can put ONE player on this new IR, and he can be available to practice again in six weeks and play in eight. So yeah you could put Hightower there, but you gotta think the Skins are looking at Jammal Brown for that as well.

Yeah oneman56 may be right that Hightower is a better back than Slaton. But all bets are off if Hightower isn't healthy.
I'm pretty sure I posted about this in the offseason that I was surprised how much the team was counting on Hightower being back this year. Coming back from the ACL seemed like a big deal to me, especially at the RB position. When is the last time one of these RBs came right back after ACL surgery? It seems like it always takes two years.

Skinsfan, I agree with you analysis of the situation of Hightower and him not being a ZBS back. He was a good pick up at the time and if our injury situation continues, early in the season, he would be great to have back here.

One of the Radion guys on ESPN 980 joked that that why he made the 53! The INTs drops are bizarre! Especially from a franchise that has a storied history of feasting on turnovers. Rogers need glasses, what's the other guys' excuses?

Neither qualify, I think. I read that to be elligible players already had to be on IR when the rule was agreed on.

or placed on IR after the 4th and be on the 53 roster.
As for the AAA/Slayton trade, I think that what we might be doing is putting one of the RBs on IR like Royster. He's banged up and we can take him off later this season. If Slayton looks like a fit, then we're good to go with 3 RBs.
Also, backup FB Boyce appears to be getting an MRI on his shoulder and most likely will be waived/cut with an injury settlement.

I only have the radio account of the new IR rules. They said that it has to be a severe injury where they are diagnosed to be out for 6 weeks.
This was on ESPN 980 around noon. Any word on that being true?

Nothing on Kehl - but that would be a good move on NO's part with the game coming up Week 1.
I was gonna say...
