This thread is worthless! We should be starting a web page keep Manning out of Washington website.
Will be 37yrs old, 3 neck surgerys. Give me a break.
This is not fantasy football.

Shanny is not going to bring in a rookie. His ego is way to big and will not stand for another lossing season. He wants to win now and cannot wait two or three years....

If Peyton didn't have the health issues which are still unknown, I'd be fine with him in DC .. but if he were healthy, there is no way Indy would let him go.

I believe he will retire.

I also think it's possible that Indy takes RG3 instead of Luck ... but I fell down and hit my head when I was a young child, so who knows where these thoughts come from

Seattle Times news services

INDIANAPOLIS — Peyton Manning might not be able to resume his career because nerves in his arm are healing too slowly, Yahoo! Sports reported, citing sources close to the veteran Indianapolis quarterback.

The report says the nerves in Manning's arm are not healing as quickly as hoped and don't appear to be progressing fast enough to indicate that he will play again, according to two sources with knowledge of Manning's rehabilitation from neck surgery. The vertebrae in his neck that were fused have healed as expected and Manning began throwing in December. The sources say his velocity on passes has not improved and may never again.

Yahoo also reported that two league-affiliated doctors with experience in spinal-fusion surgery said it could take up to a year before Manning knows if he can return. According to the report, both doctors said the risk is too great for Manning to play again and, because of the timeline, neither would recommend the Colts pay Manning the $28 million bonus he is owed in March.

Pretty much the exact opposite of what Chris Mortensen said on Mike and Mike this morning.

I heard that too. Mort basically said, if Peyton's career is really so in doubt as Peter King is reporting, then why is Manning working his tail off right now, throwing, rehabbing, etc; The guy clearly wants and intends to play next year. He also pointed out that you're not hearing this stuff from the Manning family.

This noise about his medical status and doubts about him playing again next year seems to me like its coming from people around the Colts org. They have to give themselves some P.R. cover for dumping Manning like they intend to do in March. They don't want to look like the bad guys for tossing aside this guy who has carried their club for 14 years. I know Luck is supposed to be this one in a lifetime draft opportunity, but its still a d-bag move.

I still don't know how I would feel about the possibility of Manning ever coming to DC regardless of how likely it is. Its fun to speculate, but I don't know. We're constantly involved in the biggest free agent fiascos around the league. From Deion all the way to Adam Archeleta to Fat Albert and McNabb. I wouldn't be eager to go that route again.

Unfortunately, McNabb was not a FA. We traded picks for him.

I still say NO. Never trust a neck or head injury.

I thought the Shanaplan was to "rebuild" this team? Why all of a sudden are there murmurs of the Shanahans doing the same damn thing that his plagued this team for so long in going out and signing a "sure bet veteran". The Manning move would be riskier than drafting a rookie and hoping he doesn't turn into a bust, IMO.

The entire thought of getting Peyton is plain stupid. It was my impression that the intent of our front office was to "re-build" the team. Signing or trading for a 37 yr old, injured QB doesn't exactly fit that description. We need to get YOUNGER.

Peyton very much still believes he can compete and play in this league. The issue is that peyton and the skins do not make a good combo. We don't have the adequate OL support to an aging, injury riddled QB. The NYJs are obviously the best fit for Peyton. And Peyton is much too old to build around.

Peyton would merely be a band-aid -- and we need surgery.

So you are knocking Shannahan without knowing the terms of a deal he hasn't made...

Why does everyone seem to automatically think we would be signing Peyton to be the new franchise QB? Obviously they know about the injury issues, and would have a backup plan in case he get's reinjured. If they signed PM, it's not like they would abandon the idea of drafting our future QB. It would only mean we might get some high-level QB play while the future QB learns the game.

Can't say that I trust this group to have a legit backup plan. These are the same guys that went into last season with Rex Grossman and John Beck as our quarterbacks.

Yeah, with all those pro-bowl quarterbacks they had to pick from...

First, because PM is not the type of QB that is going to go into a situation knowing that he is not "the man" or the guy. That is the entire reason why he most likely will be out of INDY for Luck -- it's not the contract, which they could restructure. Second, if INDY doesn't cut him, it will cost us picks to get him -- and based on where everything stands injury wise and being out of the league for a year -- anything above a 5th rounder is too deep for me.

Also, I agree with Canes that I am not sure what their backup plan is. As it currently looks, the skins are on the outside looking in. Miami basically signed a HC to get Flynn, CLE has the top pick to get RGIII. PM is just not a good idea. I am not sure if they even have a choice to have a plan.
