Suisham is still awful. Gano is the man.

Yeah but Swishy is happy to keep going to Super Bowl.....hahaha

All teams have this...sometimes it's players maturing later, fitting a scheme better, not being that good really...

On Andre Carter -- he had no position on our team once we went to a 3-4...I just wish we had traded him for a 3rd/4th rounder after his double digit sack year..we held onto him for one year too long.

Agreed on all of this. Someone else mentioned Antonio Pierce; I can't believe I forgot him. Lemar Marshall played hard for us, but he just couldn't fill that void. Pierce was on the fringe of Pro Bowl quality.

If his eyes have been bad his whole life, how is he to know that they are bad. It's all he knows. But I know when I get a basic physical every year, that's one of the first things the Dr checks. Sorry but that's on the team 1st in my opinion.

Um, youz right there doctor! That's why I don't read 'cause words is real blury and hard to see. For the life of me I can't quite figure out how it is all you other folks can make anything of them things.

But seriously, his passes defended numbers have always been good and so no, we should have never dropped the guy. Still, now that he's out there talking smack, next time he comes to town I say we drop the guy.

Next to RG and JB a game manager along the lines of JF would be just fine in my book.

As for Carter, the points have already been made in this thread. If you really wanted to retain (a) a 30+ year old player whose impact has been so-so, who (b) doesn't fit the new scheme going forward and will not be a key player on a rebuilding team . . . well . . . if you really wanted to retain him, I don't know what to say.

I can see the argument for keeping Jason Campbell. Surely he'd have performed better than Beck and probably Grossman. (Not that critics would be any quieter as a result.) But then again, he was the starter here, and it's not common for a starter in his prime, making #1 money, to sit on the bench for a few years while your team rebuilds. Campbell was not the long-term solution, but if it could have worked out to have him as a backup, we'd probably be better off.

I agree with most people here concerning Ryan Clark. That one is purely on Snyder, who was doing all of the player negotiations at the time and basically told Clark he could go screw himself because no team would beat what we were offering. What a surprise that Snyder's ego is behind one of the worst personnel screwups of the last eight years (or so).

The coulda woulda talk is mildly interesting, but again I can hardly take this thread seriously as some kind of discussion of Redskins failures. Letting good players go just hasn't been a feature of this team.

True that you run the risk of him running up his asking price, but hopefully he would learn how to catch better if big money is on the line. I mean he should have plenty of opportunities this year if our pass rush performs up to the hype. I see it is a catch 22 situation (no pun intended).

That's three people agreeing that we should keep him and looking at that date I'd say it was about, ohhh, 2 and a half years ago.

I was one of the people defending Rogers back then, and I wanted us to keep him for non-#1 money. When it became apparent that (i) Rogers wanted #1 money and (ii) he didn't want to be back here anyway, I resigned myself to the inevitable.

My point isn't that no one was saying we should have kept Rogers. My point is that this thread was started with people railing on the Skins for moves that were hardly questioned at the time by these same people. Sure, on a message board with hundreds of people contributing, a few (including me, in this case) are going to say it was a bad idea. But I don't recall anyone saying this was a huge mistake by the Redskins . . . probably because it really wasn't. The posts you provide are fairly tepid. I'd be surprised if there were more than 1-2 posts that took an extreme defense of Rogers as a pro-bowl calibre player we were letting slip away.

<---- LOL I was prolly the only one. While I understood the INT griping, the guy was a great cover corner. Rarely beaten on a consistent basis. #shrug I liked him.

Me too!

I also said let Moss go even though I like him.

Perhaps Gary Clark has the answer why players we let go seem to play better for their new teams. When players are llowed to have a voice in how they are utilized, they play better in a system tailored for their strengths. System first coaches often miss on potential good players.

It is not just Shanny:

Gregg Williams used to put his corners on an island (system - first) - that wasn't for Walt Harris. He goes on to lead the NFL in INTS with SF in a system that utilized his strengths.

Gary Clark: I don't blame coaches for anything. Well, I blame the coaches for this. When you pick players who aren't willing to tweak your system, us as players, we just no more than coaches in terms of playing our position. The best thing about Joe Gibbs is he was a great strategist that allowed us to tweak his system when it needed to be tweaked. Joe Gibbs is a great head coach, the best head coach I ever got to play with, but Joe never played Receiver, or Punt Returner, or Running Back, or Quarterback. So he had to rely on these individuals who have been playing these positions pretty much their whole life to tweak something when it needed to be tweaked. And have the confidence to go, "OK, Joe, I'm running a scram 7 and I'm suppose to run a corner route but I know I've been giving the guy a 3-step post move, and he keeps going to the corner, they've been game planning us!" They watch film too. So, it's up to me to be like, "I'm not going to run to get covered." So, I'm going to run something else to adapt to this system. I'm going to run a corner hook when he thinks I'm going to the corner, but I'm going to slide back down.

I did it one time in the Championship game, so that's really not the right time to be wrong. (laughing). But you got to have the confidence to be like, "You know what, I'm right, and this is gonna work out." If I am wrong, I'll have to take the punishment that comes along with it, but you got to have a coach that is willing to let you tweak their system. If they don't allow you to tweak their system, than they're a bad coach because we're the true football players.

Gary Clark: Yea. A lot of time players are scared to make that adjustment because if they're doing exactly what is told of them, if something doesn't work, then you say, "Well, I ran the route you told me to. I blocked it the way you told me to block it. So, you can't really punish me for it."

I could care less about letting players go that either don't want to be a part of what is going on here OR don't want to do WHATEVER is best for the other players around them

Rogers' thought he was better than he really is - so .. all the best and see ya later :D

on the other hand, I'm really glad for Carter - good guy too

Antonio Pierce was a jerk and I'm sure he still is

If Roggers would have stayed he stol would be dropping picks. He would still have bad eyes with no contacts. Thr Skins asked him to get his eyes checked, BMitch often ridiculed him for having bad eyesight, but Roggers did nothing.

He didn't want to be back and of he had stayed it would have been because we gave him more money than anyone else. We all know how well that works!

No Carlos HAD TO GO!

I was neutral on it... I am on record as defending him as an excellent cover corner... but acknowledged that his inability to actually catch resulted in quarterbacks not being afraid to throw in his direction...

Had he stayed, he would have continued to refuse to get an eye exam... and would have remained a good cover corner who could not catch, and, therefore, never became elite.

Beyond that... I still fail to see the point of this thread. EVERY team has these stories... and always has.

I'm on record being a Rogers fan. Sound tackler in run support and while he couldn't catch for **** he was usually in good position to make a play. Happy he's having success b/c the general fan base gave him hell and was under too much pressure to make a play every time instead of just playing free.

Please. I thought you were going to focus on football skills and avoid attitude. But you feel bad for him for the fan base giving him hell yet are silent on his own bad attitude. Please. Either attitude counts or it doesn't. But one way is ridiculous.

I think a lot of fan's gave him hell for not catching the ball and while he was able to hang in there for years, last year broke the camels back. I don't have a problem with it b/c I sure as hell know I would have snapped back long before he did. He was a better player than any of our current CBs.

Sean Springs was on the Lavar and Dukes show and he said two things that make your agreement junk.

He said when he (Springs) was with the Skins they asked Los to get his eyes checked on many occasions and Los refused.

Springs said that Carlos wanted out when Springs was still there and Springs left after the 08 season.

Los is a punk, that hurt this team by continuously refusing to get his eyes checked. He wanted out and didn't play up to his ability because he was a pathetic, pig headed, whiny (female dog).
