Had CR been able to catch, NO ONE would have targeted him, except as the last option. That will never be true of Hall.

But he couldn't catch and was thrown at just as much if not more than Hall was thrown at (one was a pro bowler the other was a guy that couldn't catch). Hall gives up big plays because he gambles, Rogers defends better than Hall because he doesn't gamble and will be where he was suppose to be.

I said back in the offseason that I wasn't 100% happy that Hall is our #1. The reason is that while he made a lot of big plays last year, he was also among the worst corners in terms of coverage. (That's not just my subjective analysis, that's based on target and success rate stats from 2010.)

In other words, Hall isn't good from play to play, but last year at least he'd step up and make a big play every now and then: fumble recovery, INT.

The problem with the "big play" stats is that they are much more out of a player's control than being in the right place and the right time to defend. I'd rather have the Carlos Rogers type on the team than Hall — although Rogers is an extreme example, when you look at how many "big plays" he screwed up.

I've been thinking all along that Hall is much more likely to regress toward the mean in the "big play" category this year. And if that happens, we are left with a corner who isn't the best cover guy.

All that said . . . I do still think Hall is a pretty good corner. Just not a franchise, or really even a #1, kind of guy. So the fact that we are relying on him so much makes me nervous.

All four guys on NFL Playbook picked the Skins. However, the Madden simulation on the show had the Iggles winning by one point. (shrug)

The first play from scrimmage the Redskins will run the ball. Of Course everybody knows they will run the ball, but this is a time when you have to try and ram it down their throats to force them to move their highly overpaid corners to move closer to the line of scrimmage. That will open it up for Good Rex. You heard it here first! That's my prediction on the first play.

If we can score early and put up 21 points, we can win this game. We cannot let them get too far aheard because we're way too eager to abandon the run. I think Torrain brings a spark to the offense that we need to establish EARLY!! I don't want to see Tim get bottled up for 3/4 of the game and then Torrain is put in but we're too far behind to really estalish the run.

I agree with your assessment here ...

I believe Haslett is doing a pretty darn good job with the defense, but I have yet to be impressed with Kyle Shanahan's offense or the way the offense is called. We've had too many examples of this inexplicable abandoning the run game even when it's working well, and that's what concerns me.

To me the key to this game is very obvious .... run the ball inside against that wide 9, and take that pass rush out of the equation, control the ball and keep their offense off the filed as much as possible. If we do that, the Redskins can bury the Eagles today ... and likely gain another game on everyone in the division with the Cowgirls losing to the Patriots, and the Giants getting Buffaloed.

This is perhaps the best position the Redskins have been in to help themselves in a very long time ... and the Key will be how smart can Kyle and Rex be today ... both need to be on their game and avoid beating ourselves.

My prediction .... Redskins win 27-24, with the defense stopping a late game Eagle drive.

A prophetic this post this turned out to be, Chris!!!

1. D held them under 21 (20) and shut them out in the second half.

2. Inability to score was a problem and holding to 17 would still have gotten them the W.

We didn't score early. Squandered good field position on the first drive.
They got far ahead and we did give up on the run early.

Hopefully, we will see Beck as the starter and this O can finally get going.

I didn't want to say it before the game, because I didn't want to jinx it, but the Skins season this year has directly mirrored my son's soccer team. They play on Saturdays, and now have two losses this season (they won during the bye week). I was hoping it wouldn't stay true this week, but I was definitely worried after Saturday's loss.
