McNabb was not the reason the offense didn't do better - he's going to be fine - plus he's a hell of a leader on the sidelines as well
Both passes to Armstrong could have been completed with a little luck and I felt that both were close to contact before the ball arrived - great defense though
McNabb will be better but the biggest thing they can do for this offense is to get some run blocking
we probably cannot get that to be much better this year considering who we've got on the line

I don't know if i would classify that as a dropped pass to AA on the first fade. Jenkins did make a nice play on it. On the second fade,

ey was wide open on a quick out because of a mismatch. Watch the replay, it would have been an easy TD.

Carlos Rogers is still a good corner. He can run with the best of them. I do wish he could catch one or two but I will take a solid corner any day.
Good cornerbacks just dont grow on trees you know. I think if everyone knew the next Darrell Green, Darrell Revis or Champ Bailey we would have drafted him.
As far the offense is concerned. It was the first game of the season. Its Mcnabbs first year and a new offense with new team. It is going to take some time for the offense to gel.
Pass protection and the Oline looked good. Now I would like to see more trips or max wr sets. The offense was in max protect for a good portion of the game due to the pass rush of Dallas. Also Chris

ey, Fred Davis, Devin Thomas and Santana Moss need to be on the field on passing downs. Mcnabb wasn't exactly on target but the receivers weren't exactly money either. A work in progress.
Once again. Mcnabbs first year on a new team with a new offense. It is a work in progress. However I do think Mcnabb will progress rather quickly during this season.
The WRs are lackluster.

ey is money and Moss is mainly a deep threat who catches the occasional first down. Which is why I wish Thomas, Davis,

ey and Moss would be on the field at the same time. More options for Mcnabb. Not to knock Armstrong or anything. I think Armstrong may have been nervous but he needs to step it up to keep his job.

It reminds me of Pitt's situtation where Ryan Clark said that every time he's been hurt on a play, it's been from Troy Paulomalo hitting him. Not the other team.
Frank,
The ball hits him in the forearm. He is nowhere even close to the ball. He played a great game though, so I'm not knocking him. He can't catch and it won't ever get better, so my expectations are nil.

To your point he's certainly part of the reason. We still only have two guys who can catch the ball and our RB's look like the aging group they are. CP is a heck of a blocker but losing a step. McNabb threw some nice balls and some were dropped. But he also threw some bad balls and needs to improve.

The ball hit him in the hands. He totally should have caught it. It just looked like it was uncatchable because his reaction to the ball was just so completely inept. Watch the replay, it should have been game over. I'm not saying it was an easy catch, but it's a catch he should have made

CanesSkins26 wrote:the reason for changing to the 3-4 was primarily to create more opportunities for turnovers and to limit the other teams running game - say what
You need the players to run it effectively, though. Right now, we have three, at best, average dline starting in our 3-4. We are going to struggle against the run this season with Kemo, Carriker, and Golston.
BOTH of these facts are much bigger areas of concern than Rogers being able to catch
His inability to hold onto the ball almost cost us the game. I'm sorry, but you can't continue to give teams extra opportunities to score by not capitalizing on turnover opportunities. Teams aren't afraid to throw his way because they know that he wont be able to hold onto the ball.
I think a big part of the problem with the run defense was the defensive playcalling. Third and 2, they'd run out with one or two Dlineman, then get hit for 8 yards on the rush. They were definitely more focused on stopping the pass.
As for Rogers, I've long since given up on him making INT's. He dropped one in the playoffs that would have won the game a few years backs. It was a sure touchdown if he could catch. Unfortunately, he used up his one interception for this year in preseason practice against McNabb.

I'm not worried about Rogers - he's playing well and if teams think that it's safe to throw it his way he's going to have a number of INTs this season - our defense will get things straightened out
the big thing is - WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO RUN THE FOOTBALL A WHOLE LOT BETTER and that is not going to be very easy to make happen with the offensive linemen we have
T Williams is V exciting - to play that well against Ware is HUGE
we'll get there but not with these guys

It sounds like Lichtensteiger or however you spell it is pushing Dockery at LG. He played some yesterday, though the announcers never talked about it, so I couldn't tell who he was in for until after the game. He could pass Dockery by the end of the season.

I think that you're hating on the offensive linemen WAY too much. We have talented guys on the line. Brown is a pro bowl caliber player, Dockery is a solid starter, and Trent shows signs of big potential. Rabach is certainly a concern and it's too early to tell on Hicks imo. It's far too early to say that we wont be able to run the ball with these guys, especially since we've only played one game against a very good defense. Let's not forget that we have 3 new starters on the oline, all of them are playing with a new qb, and this is a new system. If we can avoid injuries the starting 5 should be adequate.

I have to disagree. You can't label a corner as "solid" if he consistently gives the other team additional chances by dropping pics. His dropped pic last night almost cost us the game. The focus of the defense this year is on being aggressive and forcing turnovers. It's going to be difficult to do that if one of our starting corners can't catch the ball.

I don't hate any of our lineman - I wish they were great but they are not - Brown is OK but I would be very surprised if he's considered a pro bowl lineman this year - we'll see, I'll remind you
our offensive line is still in need of replacements for Heyer, Dockery and Rabach - Rabach could be up to providing depth but he's not a good starting center any more - Dockery and Heyer are only here because we have not found anyone else

Not disagreeing... but isn't that why ANY journeyman player is still with a team?
And, it could be worse... (see "Alex Galley")

trey - this guy is someone that many here said was the best lineman on our offense at the begining of this year - that's just embarrassing because he couldn't even be on most teams in the NFL right now - are we really that bad
I totally agree with that assessment and that we need to find offensive linemen that are good enough that Dockery AND Heyer is not even able to be considered as a back up lineman here, that's all

Rabach....re-signing him was one of the first things that Shanahan/Allen did so obviously they like him.
Dockery...he is a solid starter. I have no idea why you think that he needs to be replaced so badly. You aren't going to have five Pro Bowlers on the line.
Heyer...he isn't even a starter.

I think our Oline is improved alot since last year. There is only so much you can do in one offseason guys. Alot of you here act like Snyder with this WIN NOW attitude. Yes, I want to win now and last night was a bonus win for this organization in the right direction...
It was one game against a very talented defense. I'm hoping people were not looking forward to us rushing for 150+ yards against the Cowboys.. We haven't done that in a game that matters in forever.
Was a good victory for us. The team is moving in the right direction. We already have a 3rd of the wins we had last season.. HAHA..

They did play vs a motivated Ray Lewis lead defense, though. Rex was talkin smack about Lewis and the Ravens D... not something I would have really done.

Good point. Did you see the hit that Lewis put on Dustin Keller in the second half? I was surprised that he even got up.
