Also, CSN is already talking about a contract extension for McNabb is all but a given.

No way. Maybe a 2nd rounder in the UFL draft.

I dont know why so many people are so down on this move. McNabb is a stud, a class act, and a leader. Oh and hes a huge upgrade at the most important position. Yes he is 33, but im sure we will at some point draft a qb, possibly next year and let #5 groom him for 2 years.

Im sure Shanny will maximize his strengths, portis will be stoked im sure, and we focus on Oline in the draft. I also dont really think we gave up THAT much. I mean... yes losing a 2nd rounder sucks, but hey... Malcom Kelly is a 2nd rounder. We all know the draft is a crapshoot anyway. But 5 has proven for years he can play. Dude... Shanahan, Mcnabb! Portis motivated and out team feeling like we have a proven guy under center. I personally like this move a lot. Just Sayin...

This is just like 2000 all over again when we signed the All-Star Team from 1995.

Yes... the Redskins get a highly competitive quarterback with loads of bonafides, and the sky is falling.

Personally, I think the price was high... but I like having Donovan McNabb on our team.

I hope we trade JC to the Bills or Raiders for a 2nd, wishful thinking, or at least a 3rd. If we were able to do that I would view this trade much differently. Essentially a swap of QB's and losing a 3rd/4th next year.

I think McNabb is underrated.

This was a terrible move.

Unless they were just gonna waste the 2nd rounder on a qb anyway.

My thoughts exactly. We have to let this play out. We were not realistically going to be able to draft a QB at 4. For one, Bradford will probably be gone...and secondly I believe Shanahan realizes we can't afford not to take Okung. Even if we take Clausen, we now have the luxury of allowing him to sit behind a proven leader while still making a realistic upgrade at QB.

No, I think he's underrated, its still a terrible move, unless they were going to go qb in the second anyway.

Mostly because he is old and injury prone, and we aren't competitive. He's not the player he was in his younger days, still very good.

It's a conundrum.

The fact that they probably weren't going to go OT or RB makes it more tolerable. It's a boom year for Rb's.

Maybe i'm talking myself into it being an ok move.

Guys we got better with this move. Keep in mind, teams usually only keep 2 QB's active during the year. Did we sign Grossman to be the emergency QB? Or do we have a plan to possibly get back one or both of these picks with more trades.

If we do manage to draft Okung at 4 then this is potentially a great trade for us ...I think teams will be more wary of us with Mcnabb at QB then Campbell

If Okung is gone then its not so good, sure we get to draft a stud DL but without a competitive OL we are stuffed. At the moment the OL is in worse shape than this time last year, we still had Samuels then.

ok, got it. Yes it is, but all i know is we just Instantly upgraded the most important position in football overnight. I mean people are all upset because we lost a 2nd rounder for an older player, and i get it, but whos to say that 2nd rounder isnt a total bust, or takes 3 years to develop.

Also i hear people saying that we are not competitive, well yes we SUCKED last year, However... We have a proven coach and staff, some talent, a good defense and hopefuly a direction. We lost some BS games last year (cincy, San diego anyone....) and the whole season was a CIRCUS. whos to say we cant BE competitive, sneak in the playoffs as a hot team with a Proven QB with a chip on his shoulder and a stout Defense.

Also people saying that they are mad because he wont be here for more than 3 years. Well, that is true, but that's still 2 years longer than campbell is going to be here, or develop a qb. A qb we still will draft at some point possibly in next years good qb class.

2009: Zorn / Campbell 2010: Shanahan / Mcnabb. Cmon now....

I agree if the second round busts its not a bad move. But we are not competitive. Even with this move and Okung. If you just look at the depth and youth some other teams have compared to us, we will never win with our current philosophy. Its the same as it was, unfortunately. We will continue to have old injured players, by trying to do what the yankees do. It works in baseball, but people actually get hurt in football. Especially older players. I'm more upset with what this says about the new regime than I am about the move itself.

Why didn't we just sign Troy Aikman or Emmit Smith?! This makes me sick.

I wish we could just draft big-time players for ourselves, rather than constantly reaching and over-paying for another teams used players.

Didn't McNabb used to miss every odd year with season ending injury that he would sustain by running out of bounds, or after getting planted after throwing a dirt ball or int return TD to the Cowboys? we've got a QB that can do that already.

Even if he amazingly somehow plays great for the next 7 years, he's still a stinkin Eagle.

Let's look at the 2005 and 2006 NFL drafts (figured 07 and more recent was too soon to make judgement)...

2005 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_nfl_draft
2006 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_NFL_Draft

I believe a total of 9 players have made the Pro Bowl. There are a fair amount of other names you recognize, but there are definitely a fair amount of names you don't recognize... I think trading a 2nd round and future 3rd/4th round pick for McNabb is a great move, because it is a huge improvement over JC, as others have said, he won games with a very average offensive team. Now, if this is then parlayed somehow into trading up for the #1 pick, that would be interesting as well. If not, let's get JC out of here for a draft pick(s). I have faith that Shanny and Allen know what they are doing.

Leadership cannot be underestimated in the NFL. And, this offseason we've upgraded our GM, Head Coach, and QB. We can't change everything overnight, but we are off to a good start with the 3 most important leadership positions.

We will be drafting a QB soon, but now he won't be asked to turn it all around by himself.

Sonny Jurgensen was a "stinkin" eagle too. If he comes here, plays hard and WINS, it will be all good. And i cant wait. And if he comes here and sucks, i will be very surprised, and very pissed.

1. John Elway was one year older than Donovan McNabb when Shanahan took the reigns in Denver. Elway, who had also spent a career getting close but never over the top, won 2 Superbowls.

2. The last time Philly dealt a hall of fame quarterback within the division worked out pretty darned well for the Redskins.

3. This dramatically improves the ability of the Redskins to compete immediately.

You can't just look at pro bowlers. You have to look at depth. What happens if Russell Okung gets hurt next year? The draft isn't just about stars, it's about contingency plans. A youthful core. You can't just trade every pick away. I'm not just talking about this move, I'm not that sour on this move, just the philosophy, which I hoped Shanahan would change.

A poll on yahoo sports shows 80% think the Redskins get the best out of this deal.

All the sports reports I have read so far say this is a good move for the redskins

Our 2-time superbowl coach thinks that this is a good move for the Redskins

but I guess some people on here know better

Lets be honest, if McNabb only gets us to the playoffs its still an upgrade on what we have had these past few years.
