gee - that was helpful and must mean something to someone but not to me

fact is our offensive line's play was a major factor in our lack of scoring.

is that clear enough for you?
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

And you don't select based on need if it will force you to reach, or to pay too much for a given level of talent.

Last year was a good example. None of the talent availible at our #1 pick was assessed as equivalent talent. We either had to trade down, or take best availible... we traded down, and got players that were on most boards as worth those picks. 2 were in positions of need (WR's), and one was a best availible pick (Davis). They may pan out, they may not... but hindsight is always perfect.

So let's say Crabtree was there at 13 and the "best availible" we should take him??

Crabtree will not be there, so that discussion can end. The question is, if Maclin is there, who can put up more all purpose yards than anyone in football, do you take him?

Guess what that means? They're not good -- or at least dependable -- any more.

A player can still be good, but prone to injury. It means they can't start every down, all season anymore, but they can definitely contribute a lot to a team.

That still leads to the same conclusion -- the process of replacing that person should have started before now.

The Redskins line was great in the beginning and then started to break down.

They can still contribute at a high level and some quality depth (free agency? the draft?) would make it so they wouldn't have to play every single down, thus limiting injuries.

I swear I'm not trying to make this so complicated for everyone.

Please provide me with an example if a team who rotates linemen??

I know we'll bring in the pass blockers when we pass and the run blockers when we run

Say Pete Kendall is in the game right? He sprains his finger, it's not a big deal, it just limits his effectiveness a little. He plays through it because he's a macho man. It takes three weeks to really heal because he keeps playing through the pain.

Now say he's still on the line, sprains his finger. We bring in Mr. Mystery Quality Offensive Line Depth for the rest of the game, let Kendall heal. Mr MQOLD plays a decent game, gets his feet wet and Kendall comes back in one week, or two weeks fully healed.

Also, if a guy were to get seriously hurt (God forbid) we'd have a decent backup in place and not the monster drop off we had when Samuels and Jansen got injured at the same time.

Two problems with our team that must be fixed or we won't improve:

1) Pass blocking; and

2) Lack of pass rush from our Dline. (What an understatement this is...we never got a rush from the front, even when it was an obvious passing down...it made me sick to see.)

OLine -- A line that isn't healthy isn't good. However our biggest issue is our their ability to pass block...they really suck at it! They are pretty effective run blockers. Pass blocking requires quicker feet & longer arms, while run blocking is more brute strength & toughness. Our guys are tough, smart and agressive but I don't see any of them being outstanding pass blockers. This year, when it was an obvious passing down, Jason got nothing but "look out" blocks from our line. Is it age, injury, ability?

D Line -- Taylor was not an effective replacement for Daniels. He would have been perfect if Carter had been hurt and not daniels. Taylor can not play LDE for an entire season. Carter is an okay RDE, Griffin is a "good" but always hurt DT, Daniels is actually a solid stong side DE, but the rest of our guys are subs. These guys are not starters, e.g., Evans, Montgomery, Gholston, Ryan B., Rob Jackson, etc...

Let's draft a huge DT early and play him day 1. I read today that the SKins might trade Rogers. If so I hope we can get a 2nd rounder so we can draft the best OL available. It's time the Skins quit drafting skill players like WRs, DBs, safeties...and draft lineman. Every single pick needs to be a big guy.

We have good (locker room) guys playing on the O and D lines..unfortunately, they got owned this year and I don't see them getting any better. It's a real bummer when you have to let a Griff, Taylor, Jansen, Kendall, go but their time is up. sorry to say. In their day, great players...today -- done.

skins55 -- Kendall is done as a starter...and maybe done as a player. If Reinhart isn't the guy, we need to find a LG in FA or the draft.

Kendall was one of the best lineman we had last season and there's talk about bringing him back to start for one more season for cheap money.

Skinsjock, Understood, our O-line sucked....

BUT, knowing this going into games, shouldn't there have been more slants, quick drops or a RB in the flats to counter the weakness, or at least have a plan to win? It seemed like we knew our line can't hold, but we still had no quick throws in there. Actually, no quick nothing, it's always Cooley finally breaking free and catching. Ah hindsight anyways, we'll see what we got next year after everything is sorted out.

Everyone knows that we need O and D help. Just saw a good prospect if we can get him though, Everette Brown. This guy is a monster! I just watched his high-lights on The Warpath. He's sick, we need help in that area, and we might be able to get him. It's him or Duke Robinson for me.
You guys sure do bicker a lot but I guess that's the point huh?
Well here's a little something for ya.

(1) Sean Taylor was not that good. He was becoming good once he started to calm his funky butt down. Doesn't eveyone remember all the tackles he missed because he wanted to put the big hit on someone? Yes, I wish he was with us still and he was becoming very, very good. Let's not make him into a deity. I hear a lot of people say this and that about how great he was but they didn't watch the games, just the highlights.

(2) Chris Cooley can and probably should be traded for draft picks, period. Right now his stock is up and a lot of teams would give a testicle to get him. Again when he first got there he dropped pass after pass and still does from time to time. Yes he's one of our most productive and one of my favorites but he's not a deity either. As if he didn't turn over the ball in the Cincy game that cost us a TD.

(3) We need to build through the draft and stay clear away from free agency unless we get a really good deal with a performance based contract. Holding on to the past isn't going to build us up to a caliber team, only keep us with washed up dreams.

(4) I'd say let Portis, Cooley, or Moss go. We'd have to get A LOT though. This will hurt us money wise and probably wouldn't happen from what I hear. I'm also cool with riding them until their wheels fall off. We've already paid them right? I just don't want to hear about how we'd be crazy to let them go. If they're so good why aren't they in the play-offs? Where are the SB rings? Exactly! You can't blame all of this on the O-line.

(5) Last years draft wasn't that bad in that they actually used it for a change and didn't try to buy up every free agent.

(6) Build this team to be good year in and out, to win the division, and for the play-offs and we'll have less to blog about.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Cooley ain't going anywhere. Neither is Portis or Moss.

Having said that, Rogers will probably go, though I'm not sure what you can get for him.

As I said before, you need to get a bunch of solid O and D line guys by trading down. This team is not 1 or 2 picks away from being remotely competitive year in year out.

Trade down, get solid picks and hope they pan out. Don't go for the bling-pick in the draft with the same mentality you go in FA. That got us nowhere this year, all the "drafting the best player available mentality". Utter stupidity.

Well I watched his games both in person and on television and he WAS that good. He was a great hitter, tackler, and was always around the ball. Maybe it was you who only watched the highlights!

What!!! Sean Taylor was the a game changer. IMO we make the playoffs again this year with him. He was the closest thing to Ed Reed but a better hitter. I don't think there is enough attention given to the Redskins in that they lost one the best players in the NFL. He change the way offense game planed against us...he allowed us to do things on defense that many team couldn't. He won games from the safety position he was that kind of player

I'm glad that I could stir the pot. He He He If screwing things up and pissing people off were a paying job I'd be rich and retired!

I haven't missed a Redskins game in a long time and remember Sean Taylor missing tackles that cost us tds. He was becoming a very good player, ONCE HE CALMED DOWN. He was a game changer both ways, at first by missing tackles that led to TDS (Plural), later by making solid tackles, blocking field goals, and by interceptions. Y'all can bray to Baal if you like. I have no such false Gods. Yes, I wish he was still there. I think we could have won a few more games last season with him there but he was only one man.
Let's get over what could have been. No one deserved what he got and he was becoming a very good player. Time would've determined his greatness.

LoL tramp, ya sure stirred a good 'un.... ST21 was a force multiplier, he can cover a bigger zone than most and has the speed to help somewhere else. He missed those tackles because everyone else did, and he simply misjudged it. He is a definite game changer, but I do agree he isn't or wasn't YET as good as we sometimes think. He was starting to show how good he was.... IMO he would've been a lot better than Ed Reed

He He HE Thanks!
Seriously any news about the draft? Vinnie says he wants more draft picks. The only way I can see him doing that is by trading a good player that a team is interested in or trading down. But who could we trade? Most of the teams would look at our players and would say we were trying to run a savage burn on em.

I know Vinny wants more picks, but he should have just not traded them in the first place I guess. (Hindsight's 20/20, but Demetric Evans outplayed Jason Taylor this season.)

He could get more picks by trading down from 13 but I hope he doesn't. Personally I think we pulled one over on the Falcons last season but that was a unique situation. This year, at our pick there should either be a good offensive lineman or a good linebacker available. Two big needs, which would also be a good value pick.

The whole point on ST is that he HAD calmed down and was becoming sickening good. If you can't use thought out posts, I guess "stirring the pot" is just as good to some people.

We can spout to the time runs out. I could really care less. But if everyone has the need to put their two cents in, He He He, go ahead. What do I care?
How about this? Who is the next Sean Taylor on the Redskins and I'm not just talking about in the secondary. I mean any defensive player. I think we could use Everrett Brown but I'm going to stop droping his name because I know Vinny's not going to be able to get him. Does anyone have any good linebackers for the draft? I'm not too woried about it. We can get younger with undrafted rookies but I'd like to have quality myself. At least we can shovel some trash through the grinder and see if a brick comes out? It's not like we don't have guys that are ready to move up and replace our O-line anyway? We do have some people. Ready or not they need to step up.
Did anyone see Russ Grim's kid play last night?
They were talking about how the priority team for Tech is their special teams and they rest up on offense or defense. It struck me as being neat.

I almost forgot. I'm not to hot about FA but I did see Colombo on there from the Cowboys. I haven't watched him enough to make a good judgement call. There are a few other good options too. I don't think we should be picking up older guys either. Saturday from the Colts would be good for a year or two but that's probably it.
