Tuna is a wuss.

He's lumpy like a feed sack.
Oh well, Wilford would have been a nice fit in the west coast O at a decent price.
Add James Hardy to that draft list. He's a monster who needs a little polish, but could be another Plax.

Here are some potential pro bowl safties. You guys need to stop thinking mediocre and think like a champion.
Dude, I'm all for drafting a stud safety, I was all about that last year with Landry. But not this year. It's all about prioritizing. We have other more pressing needs like DE, WR, DT and OG. They're simply looking for some inexpensive depth in case one of our starters goes down. Prioleau and Stoutmire might be gone. That leaves Fox. They're not going into the season with only 3 safeties on the roster. I can't see them using our 1st, 2nd or 3rd on a safety this year, and beyond those rounds, the safety class is extremely weak.
Thank you. People need to accept certain realities.
1) We will never have a pro bowl caliber player at every poition.
2) We have a limited # of draft picks & limited cap space to sign FA's.

Our priorities:
WR - Big frame red zone WR to fit west coast (and catch TD's)
DT - Talented DT to take double-teams away from Grif
CB - depth/future, Smoot/Rogers not ideal #1's, Springs not as Springy anymore
OL depth - age and injuries make serious depth a priority.
DE - Daniels getting old. Need some talented youth to groom.
LB depth - OLB, behind #53 and with #52 rehabbing.
Safety - Depending on Prioleau, may need someone to compete with Doughty
I consider the top two priorities equal. So we need to go with the best talent for the money available via draft, free agency or trade. However, there do seem to be about 5 big WR's available in the first round of the draft.

I'd put OG ahead of CB & DT. The only backup interior OL on roster is Geisenger.
We need S more than CB. We only have 3 S's signed, but 8 CB's (I know several of them are just training camp foddor, But I still think S depth is a bigger need.)

In reading through this thread WR seems to be the most listed priority. I disagree. I do not hitnk Hackett or Bryand are the answer here. I belive we have the guy we need on the roster already.
Anthony Mix a 6'5'' 230lb WR. I say this becasue of the familiarity with #17 at Auburn U. and the fact that the SB champs were not real happy to see him get signed off their practice squad. I like the line up of Moss, Mix, El &

ey. If Mix can pick up the offense & make some catches, we can then target a D-lineman to add to our aging group. Not to mention Mix is pretty good on teams as well.
Side note the Iggles signed a situational pass rusher from Oakland by way of D.C. - Chris Clemons

If I can get enough Legos, I'm going to build Alvin Walton 2.0. That'll be good enough.

Guess his salary demands are the REAL hurdle here. So maybe he's not right for us, but you gotta think he would look good next to Grif if we could fit him under the cap.
His only demand is to not take a paycut, his base salary is $9.8 million in 2008 he wants it. The Bengals don't want to pay it, they want him to re-work the deal. He won't so he's still a Jet. He is due a $3M roster bonus in June so he'll probally get cut. Then he can be had for no draft picks at all.

I think it's worth noting that while some of you continue to say Will Demps sucks, he was a
Pro Bowl Alternate this year, right behind some guy named Ed Reed.
Many
Texans fans do not want to see him go. I think for the right price, he'd be a nice addition to our defense.

When Mix last caught passes from Campbell, he only caught 19 in the season. I'll concede that he is the right size, but there is no evidence that he is a good enough receiver.

Must be a strong class of safeties ... in your estimation

Kenny Phillips is an outstanding prospect. Miami coaches have said he is like Ed Reed and Sean Taylor all in one.
Josh Barrett out of Arizona State is another very big saftie for runs his forty in the 4.3-4.4 range. He is 6-3 230lbs.
There are about twenty good solid safties that I see on the list I posted. In my estimation.
Hey as long as they have the good athletic foundation to begin with. The rest they can be molded into a great player. Or if we are lucky we get a leader who has great work ethic already.
It is all about development. How will the player develop over time? Does not matter what round. Anyhow Hail to the Redskins baby!

For starters, you need 4 effective receivers in a West Coast offense. We are going to be running a lot of 3 receiver and even 4 receiver sets. A lineup of Moss, Mix, ARE, and Thrash isn't going to scare anyone and likely isn't going to be very effective. Mix is an unknown quantity and relying on him to be a starter next season is stupid. In 2 NFL seasons Mix has 3 catches and 39 yards. Down the line he might be able to contribute to the offense, but he couldn't even get on the field with any regularity last season.
As for his so-called familiarity with JC, just because they played together at Auburn doesn't mean that that is going to translate to success in the NFL. In reality, Mix and Campbell only played together for one season (2004) and the results weren't anything special. Mix only had 19 catches, 294 yards, and 3 td's. Keep in mind that that was his best college season. By comparison, it only took Malcolm Kelly 3 games this season to top Mix's best season.

I'm with SkinsFreak on this. There is nothing negative about bringing in a guy like Demps. At worst he adds depth to our secondary. He's started for some good defenses in the past so to think that he isn't good enough to play here is ridiculous. He started all 16 games for a Ravens defense that was ranked sixth in the NFL in 2004.

Arizona Cardinals free agent wide receiver Bryant Johnson told the Buffalo Bills official web site on Monday that he has scheduled a visit with the Redskins. (Johnson visited with Buffalo on Monday.) However, Redskins team officials have not confirmed a visit with Johnson.
Johnson is a fifth-year player out of Penn State. He grew up in Baltimore. In four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Johnson has 210 career catches for 2,675 yards and nine touchdowns.

Demps dislocated his elbow in a preseason game Aug. 19 and got a injury settlement in Sept. before the season started. He was a street free agent when the Titans pick him up on the Tuesday after opening week, he played that weekend and started going forward. If the Skins could get him now and get him into OTAs he could start.

Skins hardly overpay for people now; when's the last time you saw them throw 20 million guarenteed at a player like what's been thrown around in the past 2 years to guys like Nate Clements and Justin Smith (a bargain at 10 million guarenteed per sack last year!)?
Hint. Never.
The standard 5 year, 25 million, 10 million guarenteed contract that the Skins have been giving out...is an under market contract now.
And I'd be happy to get Will Demps. I watched him in Baltimore; he's a highly underrated player.

Maybe Zorn is more of a major influence in the decision process then we think. As a new HC I would not want to spend big bucks on any offensive player until I had time to evaluate the current players in my system. Only then could he really know how to rank the needs.

Mix is (as his name implies) a nice guy to have (in the mix). But certainly not someone we can count on to be one of the two starting WR's. Even a first round pick, if we were lucky enough to get Limus Sweed, would not be a shoe-in to start. So we need some depth to create honest competition. I think Caldwell will be a tough veteran to beat in training camp.
I don't think safety should be a top priority. Doughty is young and developing. There is ALWAYS a ton of veteran safeties to be had cheap after the free agent market settles down, or at the June 1st cuts. No point in wasting a top draft pick or paying top dollar for a free agent safety now. We have enough money tied up in Landry already. Pick up a veteran cheap (same way we got Prioleau, Stoutmire, Fox etc.) and let him compete with Doughty. Maybe snag a safety in the 4th or later rounds.

He set up a straw man.
HERO, you said:
Just knowing how our Skins overpay free agents is what scares me.
And my point is in the past they have, but your sentence is structured as if they CURRENTLY overpay to get free agents.
They most certainly have not done that in the past 2 years. And, more importantly, the contracts they had been giving to people, even the ones they gave last year, are now undermarket. Certainly not overpayment.
