Now you're in MY bailiwick and I tell you you have no idea of that of which you speak.

It figures you haven't a clue. You're flat wrong. Just look at the CEO's that have been hired in the last three weeks...Merrill Lynch - 2 week search...Citigroup - 3 week search. Bailiwak...impressive choice of words.

Look dude. I'm really not trying to bust on you or anything, but this really doesn't make any sense at all. This is a high profile search and he's interviewing a lot of people. The press obviously like a lot of "fans" of the team give him no latitude, trust or consideration at all ever and you want him to tell them and the people vying for the job what he's thinking before he knows what he wants to do himself? Just so we can get updates on what he's thinking because we can't wait a month or so in the off season for an update?

Look dude, I'm not trying to say the company that hired you should think twice or anything, so don't take it that way, but the quote you take this from is my response to someone saying that I am listening to the media too much. I agreed with his statement. I got caught up with the media reports. Anyway, the response was sarcastic. Next time I'll write that at the end of my statement.

(alternate response) - I actually do expect Dan Snyder to talk to the media about all the secret meetings that he's having. In fact, I feel that he should call me directly during this process because you know what, I bought a ton of skins crap this year, and he owe's it to me. (I'm being sarcastic  )

It figures you haven't a clue. You're flat wrong. You are only counting the time from resignation to hire and calling that the "search" time. They were not cases where the CEO quit one day and they began a search from cold. Had Gibbs been stating his intent to retire at the end of the season and Snyder done nothing to prepare until the day Gibbs left it would be comparable. That's not the situation in the cases you sited.

Second I never said you can't make a hire in 2 1/2 weeks, so just saying some companies hired someone in 2 1/2 weeks doesn't counter my point that the right way to do a search is to look at at least several candidates and make the right hire anyway. Another poster said two teams, the Falcons and Fins, hired a coach faster then us. So, perennially bad teams made fast decisions. And makes it the right way to hire a coach?

No idea why this bothers you, but I'll clear my choice of words with you next time first.

Companies like Merrill Lynch and Citigroup don't have an offseason.

Plus there are more qualified people to do a job as a CEO of a Furtune 500 company than there are qualified people to coach NFL team. And private sectors don't have te same restrictive hiring rules the NFL does.

If VC is now making personnel choices, what difference does it make if Snyder takes his time?

Lets say Snyder rushes through his search and truely isn't happy w/the guy he hires, then he might fire him more quickly.

I made a comment about the process, pointing out that I thought it was unorganized. My comment was based on media reports, and I realized that I was too caught up with what was being reported. The media reported that Snyder expected to name a head coach in a certain amount of time which didn't happen. Then they report he wanted to wait for a while. Then they reported that he had hired Fassel. To be quite honest, if you look at my original post, I'm totally correct. This is totally unorganized...time table or not. Who hires a staff before a head coach?

All I said was that it seemed unorganized. Take 10 weeks, I could care less. I just want a good coach.

OK, fair enough.

So you think 17 days is a long time? By what standard? This is someone we want to run the team for a decade or more. Just do the math, you interview 5 or so guys, arrange travel and coordinate schedules and assess the discussions to pick a guy for Head Coach? To me it seems insane to expect that to take place for interviewing a guy to be THE GUY in ONLY 17 days is a LONG time.

CanesSkins26 wrote: Add in the fact that they have started interviewing coordinators before naming a head coach

So you're impatient they didn't hire a head coach in under 2 1/2 weeks, but you don't want them thinking yet about the rest of the org? Why?

CanesSkins26 wrote: and it just doesn't look like an organized or professional process

I differ again and in fact am IMPRESSED that rather then chasing the biggest name available and just asking how much cash has to be shoveled out Snyder is going about this systematically and doing it the right way. It is in fact rash decisions for such crucial roles that are unprofessional. I will be doubly impressed if after this he does hire GW. Even though he knew he had his guy he did due diligence.

CanesSkins26 wrote:The Dolphins and Falcons managed to go through this same process without it turning into a circus, and while we have no idea what our coaching staff is going to look like, other NFL teams are preparing for the draft and free agency.

Um...you can advocate we emulate the quick decisions made by bad teams. Snyder is doing the right thing process wise. Decision wise, we'll see.

Now your point on only taking 17 days and counting to pick a head coach I agree totally with.

There should be no rush. No rush at all. 17 days is way too short of time to pick the successor to Joe Gibbs.

Yea, I'm starting to think you're right. Waiting all this time is really working out...

This is a mess as I said before.

I'm ashamed
