It wasn't as bad as last year but there's definitely room for improvement. A lot of improvement. They rushed him a good amount of times but they killed us on the dump offs.
I wouldn't say he 'killed us' on the dump-offs - despite completing almost twice as many passes as JC, Green had less yards. His YPA was only 5.8 vs. 10.6 for JC. It's fine to give up the dink and dunk if it stops the big play. It's like Indy v. NO on Thursday night - Indy's D was letting Brees complete that little underneath stuff, but ultimately it wasn't adding up to much. Granted, Green did try some longer throws, and his WRs had the dropsies, but the underneath stuff really wasn't helping the 'phins much.
I voted Wade only because I believe that the coaches may feel that Heyer can backup Chris at LT better than Wade could.
Since Wade is a natual RT, it would make sense to start him.
HOWEVER, in my opinion, I think Heyer is better at RT than LT....
1) .first, he is not as athletic as you would want in your LT....at least his body is a little softer than your more established LTs. I think he will get there with a years worth of NFL offseason though.
2) He has Randy over there...and Randy helped him out alot today.
3) I would want a Rookie protecting the front side where usually they face the less dominant Defensive End, and additionally if he makes a mistake, at least Campbell can see it and react.
So my long answer short. I think our depth issues make Wade the starter, but I believe Heyer could be a better RT than he is LT.
Justice Hog wrote:Where was ey today?!?!?!? If this team wants to win consistently, they're gonna need to make ey a bigger part of the game plan!!!
I agree, I think they left him in more than they planned to help block with Heyer going in there. Campbell's first pass was to ey on a route, but after Jansen got injured, he seemed to stay put more often.

I think he needed to break right sooner than running left and would have had a clearer shot at the end zone. He had a blocker to the right but to the left there were Miami players closing in.

Possibly true but Randle El outplayed everyone else today excepting Clinton Portis. If Santana Moss, Brandon Lloyd and Chris ey had hands today this game would not have even come down to that play. Mike Sellers outplayed most of the receivers today.

true, true

Nice to get a win in week 1. Getting off to the right start makes a big difference.
Biggest surprise: Both lines played better than I expected. In the fourth quarter and OT our offensive line was dominating the battle. We ground the Dolphins into submission. That's why I am still scratching my head wondering why we kicked a 40 yard field goal on first down with plenty of time. Their guys were tired and it showed. I am convinced that if we had kept running the football we would have scored a touchdown. There is always a risk of a fumble -- but that risk is no greater than the risk of a botched snap, a blocked kick, or a simple missed field goal. The decision to kick there was the wrong decision, but it worked out okay, so I supposed it was the right decision.
Biggest things to fix: Campbell's high passes and the receivers' dropped passes. But these will be easy fixes. How refreshing to see the Redskins going deep from time to time. Every time we had the ball I was confident that we coudl make a big play and score. I haven't felt that way in a long time.

Hail Skins!
Yeah, that's the coaches job to make the tough calls. Go on the official site to listen to Gibbs explain why he did it.
End the game quick, put the stake in the heart. Everyone is tired and let's get the win.....that's basically what JJ Gibbs said.
Hope you're doing well in Korea.... say Hi to my long lost friend, Oscar.

Justice Hog's prediction: Mark my words, folks. Chris ey is gonna catch 3 TDs in the first game this year and Portis will run for one while Moss catches 1. Score: Skins - 38, Fins: 17
I think you were off a little bit Justice Hog Portis did run for a touchdown and we won but you missed on everything else! Anyway, I am glad we have a defense again!! The defense will have to carry this team through at least the first half of the season until Campbell gets comfortable. On another note, is Jansens injury a blessing in disguise? He didn't look good in preseason and it will give a chance for wade/heyer to step up and take the job.
I thought Smoot and Rogers both played pretty poorly today. Otherwise our defense looked good but the cb situaiton still makes me nervous. Playing 7-10 yards off the ball and still getting beat on long passes? Chambers is not that fast. But It is a win!
Also, I can tell you I have not had any faith in one of our kickers for a long time but if Suisham keeps this up it will make watching the games a lot less stressful.
That was a great performance by the D, but I'm a little concerned by the fact we allowed 207 yards passing (which would've been higher without the drops) against an O which isn't one of the top passing offenses in the league. We've got games against some good passing offenses later in the season - NE, Detroit, Arizona, Dallas - so I hope we shore up the secondary before then. They're going to get tested next week against Philly's pass-happy offense.

Yup ... Smoot's play was especially worrisome, he was getting beaten routinely and the team seemed to struggle with intermediate route coverage.
I just got out of the car and was listening to the Redskins monday morning show with Joe Jacoby.
John Riggins said that "#85 is a loser", needless to say I was shocked. lol. His reasoning wasn't that he didn't make the catch but his play after the INT. Now I (CLL) didn't notice this but John stated that Lloyd basically half heartedly ran after the defensive player.
If you notice Thrash was the #3 WR for quite some time after that play.
Further evaluation into the show by Bram, Joe and Kevin lead them to come to the conclusion that Lloyd quit on the route cus he didn't think he was getting the ball. JC counted on Lloyd to keep running and Lloyd did all that he could to stretch for the ball but couldn't quite get there. I believe for a fact that Lloyd would have made the catch if he was in proper position.

Yes, B Lloyd half heartedly ran after the guy with the ball. I was shocked to see him "jog" after the guy.

Really? I didn't think he was doing too badly. . .or maybe I was so worried about Rogers that Smoot simply looked good by comparison. He was tackling well, and most of the big gains were passes over the middle on zone plays where Smoot wasn't in it. Smoot did get turned around once and of course had the dropped INT, but did you think he was doing that poorly?
tribeofjudah wrote:Is there any hope for B. Lloyd to stay with this team.... I'm all for 2nd, 3rd chances but he does not have the heart of a Champion....imo.
Cut him loose...... take the $ hit.....? Put him on the practice squad?
What say you......?
It's still too early for the 'cut Lloyd' business (Game 1?), but I'll agree he needs to be put on notice to step up or pack up. He's already been demoted from 2 to 3, and I could easily see him gone after this season if he doesn't show something more than he has.

Yes, all of that was very disappointing. I have such high hopes for Lloyd, but he seems to be picking up where he left off a year ago, even after a promising off season.
