CP got himself hurt in the preseason cause he was trying to show off. The team had a mentality like they had already won the superbowl and were not even trying at that point and CP saw the chance to lay a guy out with a big hit for sports center so he tried it. He should play in preseason cause he hasnt played in a year. Gibbs is the coach and he will play him the amount that he believes will help the team the most

What about making a big hit on a turnover (to prevent a score) qualifies as "showing off"? Yes, it was regrettable that Portis was injured on the play but I'll take that kind of effort 100 times out of 100. And where do you get this idea that the team was coasting? It was the FIRST GAME of the pre-season, how can you possibly have come to the conclusion, at that point, that the team was acting as if it had "already won the Super Bowl"?

Show off??? Playing at full speed (which is what CP does every play) is not showing off. It is just playing at full speed. It's what he does. If everyone played at full speed every play, as he does, imagine the team you'd have.
I doubt that he plays it any differently this year. If he's in a game, he'll give everything he has, no matter what the situation.
