My blood pressure is rising but I have a question.
What's going to happen when Redskin nation is shocked at Lance's uneffectiveness due to no fault of his own? Bernie posted his profile and the VERY FIRST LINE SAID THAT HE'S SURROUNDED BY OTHER GREAT PLAYERS!!! For the slower folk here, that means he has a helluva defensive line in front of him. That means he's not shedding blocks of offensive linemen. THAT MEANS he has unimpeded progress to the ball carrier most of the time.
And guess what Redskin fans......we have none of that yet. If we somehow get our defensive line to that high standard. Maybe Marshall and/or Rocky could be as good as Lance. NAhhhhh, never mind. Our own players are never as good as the grass on the other side.
But hey! Let's keep ignoring the real problem and over doing the wrong posistions as some sort of half-done compensation.
I do not understand what type of learning curve Snyder is on regarding "winning" in the NFL...but it definitely is a slow one!!!
How many failed seasons, distractions in the locker room, our players blossoming elsewhere...will it take for them to learn??
It never hurts to have deep pockets...lets face it money rules the world...But the "longest" money doesnt always win...

According to my "un-named sources" this is something that Drew threw out there, and when "the Danny" was asked he replied. The Bears say they haven't discussed this with the Skins but are aware of Drew's and "the Danny's" comments. The Bear's F/O is taking the same position as we are, compensations for the #6 pick will be a major part of the talks.
The Bears would need to give up more to move a guy that
(1) says he isn't going to play the 1st ten games of the season if he's on the roster (doesn't matter if you're a pro-bowl player if you're not playing). (2) Has stated he won't play a down for the Bears "ever" again.
Then you have to look at the value of the #6 pick.
Why would we drop 25 spots and take a player off their hands that will only take up a roster spot for most of the year
I can't imagine that Briggs would just come here and take up a roster spot only. I'm sure that GW would have him on the field as soon as he could.
I also don't think that we should make this trade. He will command a major contract from us because you know every player wants to come to Wash. to get paid.
I think the proper move would be to trade down, pick up more players to fill various needs. This is the safe route to go and also provides young players on your team not to mention would help us change the mindset in the NFL that we are willing to build through the draft. I'm tired of consistently being a joke regarding every subject in the NFL.

He'd only take up a roster spot on the Bears roster which is why we should get more to take him off their hands

If this goes down....
This crap is depressing.
If this trade goes down a few things will most likely happen.
1. Briggs will be over paid. A. Lemar will be disgruntled. B. McIntosh will be disgruntled. C. Locker room issues.
2. We will only swap picks. A. The bears need to get rid of Briggs and we don't need him so we should be pulling the strings. Our F/O couldn't negotiate with a toddler. B. We will be on the short end of the stick.
IF this trade happens it proves that our franchise can't even find starters in the 2nd round of the draft. Not only is our Rocky not starting we gave up about 20 picks to get him.
So it comes down to this. We play the offseason well and pick up proven players who aren't overpriced....and we potentially did all of this to build up steam for such a retarded move.
Get your credit cards out for Danny and buy that new jeresey that you'll all whine about in 2 months when it's worthless because he switched numbers. The "smart" fans who wait till August to buy this new jersey should get about 2 years out of it before he becomes pissed off and forces another lopsided trade out of here so that you all can praise the F/O about how great they are at defusing these situations.
The sheer thought of this trade is disgusting but it'll make the sheep happy. It'll make them feel like we're "improving" and doing our best to win a trophy.
*Yes the sky is falling.
Please don't let this be true.
Thanks for posting this. It saves me about 5 minutes of pissed off typing because it is exactly true. Do we need to send Danny to a shopaholics anonymous group?
DAN SNYDER HAS TAKEN THE GREATEST FRANCHISE IN SPORTS WITH THE BEST FANS AND TURNED IT INTO A FANTASY FOOTBALL FRANCHISE. THERE IS NO CONSIDERATION FOR HOW REAL MEN PLAY FOOTBALL AS PART OF A TEAM. HIS DEALS WOULD WORK FINE IN MADDEN 07 WHERE THERE IS NO REAL CONCERN WITH CHEMISTRY, DEPTH, THE FUTURE OF THE FRANCHISE OR HUMAN EMOTION.
Why can't Joe Gibbs see this and put an end to it?
It seems to me that we are always just about to recover from our last questionable move, and talking ourselves into believing that our team has changed its ways when we do the next ill-advised thing that actually trumps the previous stupidity.
In this case, we were hopefully, finally about to reap the benefit of trading away this year's 2nd rounder by actually getting to use Rocky. That original stupidity was already hard to swallow because 1) he didn't play 2) we may or may not have needed to trade up to get him anyway 3) we could have grabbed Winston Justice with that pick instead who was a "value" at that spot, instead the hated Eagles get him 4) now we dont have a 2nd rounder AGAIN (which would have been the 38th pick btw).
But instead of finally enjoying the one positive of all that (which is actually watching Rocky play), we are instead going to make him a back-up, so that we can no doubt give a "record breaking" contract to someone else's player. Meanwhile our own guys start eyeing Briggs contract.
Joe, why did we trade up and give away the next year's 2nd rounder to draft a back-up LB? Are we going to play a 3-4 or a 2-5?! Or have we somehow ALREADY realized that we made a mistake with Rocky?
Before last year's frenzy, I was finally starting to be able to defend the Skins moves to all the uninformed/ignorant friends of mine who only believed what the sports media fed them about us "always" overspending. I could point out Marcus Washington, CP, Santana, Shawn Springs, Randy Thomas, and there somewhat reasonable contracts, especially by today's standards. I could talk about how no one got more than the standard $10 mill SB $30 mill contract (which was voidable or restructured 3 years in), so all the guys were paid relatively the same and therefore, a happy, non-jealous locker room... I could point out that it was not since 2000 that we had really gone apesh*t in free agency, and speak of how Joe has shown Snyder the way.
Turns out, I was wrong all along. The Len Pasquerelli's of the world were right, and I will have to eat my words again, as my beloved Coach makes our team look stupid yet again. I have been trying to deny the writing on the wall that my childhood hero is a doofus, but... No. I can't say it. He's still got the 3 rings. I will go down with this ship. We will have one bad mother of a LB corps. Maybe we can get Anthony Spencer at 31 from Purdue. He's a playmaker without all the measurables. Maybe we grab my man Justin Harrell from UT to play DT next to Corny. I am from Knoxville, and can tell you this guy's a rock in the middle who played with a torn triceps against UF just because he hated the Gators so much. Maybe we grab Chris Houston, the Arkansas CB who has super speed.
This could turn out OK, as long as Gaines Adams doesn't turn into Dwight Freeney, and as long as we dont over-pay and screw up our cap, and as long as the over-paying doesn't cause a locker room problem, and as long as we get proper value for trading down 25 spots in the 1st round which is equal to 1000 points according to the Draft Value Chart (our 6th/1600 - their 31st/600 = 1000. The 2nd rounder we used on Rocky last year was was worth 560 btw, so do we include that? 1000 points is the equivalent of the 16th overall pick in the draft. Is Briggs worth that? Maybe, but he would likely be a free agent after next year, at which time we would also know a little more about Rocky. If we include Rocky's "draft" points then the number is 1000 + 560 = 1560 which about what our 6th is worth. So essentailly, Ladies and Gentlemen, with the 6th pick in the 2007 draft, The Washington Redskins select... Lance Briggs.
Please Joe, hold out for more picks, make them throw in a corner, something... I'm feeling a little sick, but I'm trying real hard to get on board with this. Nevermind, Our FO obviously doesn't read this board or we would not have done half of the stupid things we've done over the years.
Sorry about the length, I needed to vent. Love this site btw.
or at least package Lemar Marshall with the #6 pick to get Chicago's 3rd or 4th round pick so we don't have 2 starting caliber LB's (marshall/McIntosh) wasting space.
As of 11:20 this morning, no trade has gone down. Some of "us" might be overreacting and ruining our own days by getting worked up. That being said, I'm not sure how to feel about this trade, to tell you the truth.

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bears Front Office and Lance Briggs are talking for the first time. They are possibly trying to work out a deal to keep Lance with the Bears.
If we could just sit tight, and wait for draft day, then the value of our pick will only go up as the draft day hype spreads across the league. I don't see anyone else hurrying to sign Briggs away from the bears anyway, so why not show some composure and just wait it out and sell to the highest bidder on draft day... or just draft Gaines Adams!

That is very true but it's not like this is an unlikely event to take place with us...

Joe Gibbs isn't a GM he is a coach, Bethard made all those moves under Gibbs, u know the draft picks, Jay for Lychay trade, not Gibbs.

Is this being reported by Schefter now or last night? I got this from fanball.com. Notice the time stamp of last night on there. I'm hoping your news is new news.
03/26 21:10 Bears: Angelo to meet with Briggs
The News
Disgruntled linebacker Lance Briggs is set to meet with general manager Jerry Angelo this week to discuss the developing situation between the team and its franchise player. NFL Network is reporting that Angelo has stated the purpose of the meeting is not to discuss any potential long-term deals.
Our View
Briggs has supposedly demanded a trade, and has had some sharp comments directed toward the Bears' front office. It appears that this meeting would be an attempt by Angelo to reason with Briggs, and get him to back off of his aggressive stance toward the team. Briggs is unhappy because he's had the franchise tag slapped on him, but it doesn't appear that the team is going to cave in to any of his threats.
Wow. I am actually shocked at this news. My first reaction was... W.T.F ??? As of right now, I have 3 thoughts on the matter:
1. I think this is nothing more than Drew stirring things up to increase the market and potential value for his player.
2. Anytime the Redskins are mentioned in any deal, the media runs absolutely wild with the story. Any and all potential scenarios are carelessly thrown around with a severe lack of... well... rationale or logic; much like the "trade" Portis rumors or the "Skins will draft A. Peterson" stories. I know Dan brings some of this on himself, but some of these bogus reports are just stupid. I'm not saying this one is, but most are crap.
3. If true, the deal would HAVE to involve much more than they are currently reporting. I won't make my mind up until I see the ENTIRE trade package.
My best guess is that #1 is the most likely scenario. I seriously doubt this will happen. Per the current reports, I don't like this trade.
Briggs is a Franchise player. You don't franchise chumps or b-players. We'd be getting a legit pro-bowler can cover the pass - we got killed last year when Marshall and Holdman were eaten alive in the passing game.
We'd get him and still have a first round pick. And we're more likely to get a multi pick trade for the 31st pick, when a team sees someone they love falling to late in the first round, rather than a trade for the 6th which is too high to trade up for unless a Quinn, Thomas, Johnson, or Russell fall to six - and that's not happening.
Remember Ken Harvey, Wilbur Marshall, and Marcus Washington were all backers that came from other teams via free agency or trade and have made a big impact. We usually do okay in trades - Moss, Portis, trading up for Campbell.
Our D-Line is an end away from being very solid. Carter, Griffin, Golston, and ? will start. Maybe they've got eyes for another move to sign an end or the FO has one they really like but he's not a 6th overall pick.
The legit critique is that we've seen this before and it's no lock that Briggs would fit chemistry wise, or in a 4-3 scheme, and he'd eat up future cap space. But that's the risk you take.

If they did this i would definitely trade down for another second or third rounder and take Abiamiri, Alama-Francis,Woodley or Bazuin while maybe securing a mid round receiver like Paul Williams. That would be a brilliant move that I don't believe the skins are capable of making though.

Right idea! Wrong GM. Casserly made the trade you mentioned. Beathard was already in San Diego. Casserly also made the Oliphant for Byner trade.

I'm no FO apologists (close though) - but before this thread turns into a rant about GM's - tell how many teams in how many leagues have GMs and still suck and still make idiotic moves and perpetually bad? GM doesn't stand for Guru Magic - a GM in the Skins front office would be just another employee in the FO who answered to his boss, the owner. You want a GM. I want a date with Jessica Simpson.
Now - back to Briggs - the more I think about it the more I love it as I stated earlier.
The one concern I have about Briggs is this. Let's say he comes to the Redskins and, for some reason, isn't happy about playing here next year. Is he gonna be a big baby and start whining again saying he will refuse to play for us?
I think I'd rather focus on the DL right now and keep #6.
My two cents.
