And they wouldn't have to trade their top corner

You know what's interesting, that could be in play since I heard Kevin Jones's injury is very serious and might not be back. But, I can't see Adrian Peterson in that team because Mike Martz wants an all-purpose back like Jones or Marshall Faulk. Detroit could trade the pick because after the Sugar Bowl, JaMarcus Russell is your #1 QB if he comes out and will fit perfectly with the Raiders. Detroit might be weary of Brady Quinn and not select him. Add to the fact that Marshawn Lynch entered the draft and is a perfect fit for Detroit and some teams rank Marshawn higher than Peterson. Detroit could be the wild card because they can get a QB via trade (Leftwich) or a decent crop of FA OBs. This make it very interesting and the sixth pick could be very vaulable.

Yeah this thread is garbage NEVER quote me triple X radio again.

1st of all Joe Gibbs is the most loyal coach in the nfl and Portis is his boy period, we let champ bailey go for the guy and he's played well for us until this year because brunell could not stretch the field.

Portis it TOO valuable to give up for Dre Bly. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't give up Betts for Dre Bly. We do need a corner, but we can get a better one (Clements) in FA. If we are going to trade a back for a pick(s), why not Betts? If you trade Portis, not only do you give up your sparkplug on offense, but you take a major cap hit. Why not resign Duckett to back up CP, and trade Betts for a 2nd rounder while his value is at its peak? My 2 cents

Portis has played his guts out for us. Why kill his career by sending him to the Lions - that is just not right.

This would be a bad idea. I think we are going to be hearing all of this kind of crap from now until april. This player is going here, this player is going there, blah blah blah. Bad idea if we trade Portis and think Betts can carry the load.

Dre Bly is a bum.

If we were going to trade Portis for a CB (which I don't think we should do) we could get a much better one than Bly. He takes too many chances and gets beat constantly.

Do we really want anything from the Lions?

Hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll no.

y everyone once to get rid of Portis now, when did he become expendable. Betts is no Clinton Portis.

This team is terrible. What's so bad about cutting out the heart of a 5-11 club?

I'd make the trade for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounders, next years 2nd and Shaun Rodgers they can keep Bly. This would give us 2 #1s and we can trade down from the second spot for future day one picks. Then again what would the Washington Redskins do with so many draft picks. On second thought I'll pass

Portis was a workhouse a year ago, but a shoulder injury in the preseason
followed by a fractured hand later in the year limited Washington's franchise
back. When a star goes down, someone else has to step up, and head coach
Joe Gibbs was one of many witnesses to what backup Ladell Betts could do.

Betts did so well in place of the injured Portis that he was rewarded with a
five-year contract extension. But there will be no debate as to who will be
the featured back of the Redskins' offense in 2007.

"[Betts' performance] certainly reflects on everything for us next year,"
Gibbs said a few weeks ago. "Clinton is a guy who has rushed for a ton of
yards for us. Ladell has a huge role for us. There's certainly room for having
two good running backs."

According to Betts, a shared workload will help both running backs stay fresh
during games and through the course of the season.

No one said there wasn't room for two good running backs. The problem isn't that we have too many runners, but too few defenders.

I think it's safe to say that unless someone is willing to give us a Herschel Walker type deal. Both will be back. They are both extremely valuable to our organization. Portis can be a little to vocal and should just keep his mouth shut sometimes. However, I fell him and Gibbs are on the same page when it come to what really matters.
Betts is amazing and was really starting to show his true potential. Did he remind any of you of someone. (HInt) DESIEL

The only thing "amazing" about Betts is the number of times that he fumbles.

I was actually referring to his running style ,and not how many times he fumbled it on the turf...Just to clear it up a lil.

Ummmm...

NO.

Riggins ran over people.

Riggins held onto to ball.

I've watched plenty of both. Betts is a good back, but the resemblance ends at the color of their unis.

Bly sucks!

CP is the heart of this team and trading him would be the same as throwing a grenade in the middle of the locker room.

For those of you that say there isn't much difference between #2 and #6 how about 1000 points or a high mid-first round pick.

We can't use anyone that would be available at 2 that wouldn't be there at 6.

Yeah, nothing amazing about a backup coming in and running for 100 yards five weeks in a row to tie the Skins record and for over a thousand for the season only starting for about half the season. You got us there, only the fumbles are amazing.

Certainly the fumbles are a big problem. Didn't Tiki improve that repuation? Maybe we give him a chance to and give him credit for what he did do?

Betts as Riggins? No, man. No more than Holdman reminds me of Wilber Marshall.
This trade, as stated, makes no sense. To restate what others have said...who do we need at #2 that we can't get at #6...and do we need two first round picks more than we need Portis?
