Rocky was no steal at 35. He was considered a solid 2nd round prospect not some 1st rounder who slipped down the board. Mark my words. There will be AT LEAST one LB drafted this afternoon, at #53 or later that will be decent. And when you see this LB drafted think to yourself, is Rocky so much better than this guy that the extra 2nd rounder will be worth it?

Jeez. Is this guy worth that much? I hope the coaches felt he was too good of a fit in the defense to let slip away... and that they're right. Otherwise...

Well I'm sure the coaches like this guy, but again, I don't think we traded up for him.

We probably traded up to get Jackson, but then D'Qwell went right before us so we had to pick McIntosh.

(Although I would have liked to get Jimmy Williams, Abdul Hodge, or Ashton Youboty instead... but at least McIntosh went to The U)

We do use Free Agency exclusively. The only reason the Skins show for this stuff is because they couldn't get rid of the picks or some other team gave us some of theirs after last season ended. There no room on the roster for more than 1 or 2 rookies and there was a run on WLB when we moved up. Cheer up we traded our 2nd round pick in next years draft, which makes it a sure bet we won't trade the first rounder

I think McIntosh is a good pick, but I don't see the wisdom of giving up next yrs 2nd. Had they waited till # 53 they would still have had several good LB's to choose from. for Example Jon Alston of Stanford & Terna Nande of Miami (OH) (still available). Both are "undersized"- about the same size as Ernie Simms. Both are also workout freaks with great college records. I think both will be NFL stars, Alston sooner because he played at a higher college level (PAC 10 vs MAC).

Jon Alston of Stanford & Terna Nande of Miami (OH) were not THE LB that the team wanted. We gave up next year's second because we didn't have a 3rd this year, the 6th rounder was to add vakue to what we were offering. Look at what the Pats gave up... basically the same trade (next year's second is equal to this years 3rd), but we went from 1 slot below them to 1 spot above them.

Pros: Huge athletic senior tackle flashes big play ability from the inside both as a pass rusher and run stuffer. Anthony is a massive prospect who has started since midway through his sophomore season at both tackle and nose tackle during his time in the Big Ten. Despite periods of inconsistencies, he has the prototypical numbers NFL scouts seek in a prospect.
Cons: He needs to improve his quickness off the snap and when he is late, sometimes raises up and loses leverage and exposes too much of his huge body to blockers. As a pass rusher, he relies too much on his first move and needs to develop additional counter moves to be more effective. His inconsistent play is related to his technique and leverage that negates his power and imposing size. When he comes off the ball high, he fails to get a strong surge and gets wired to blockers easily.
Numbers: As a senior, he played in 11 games with 41 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks.
Skinny: Risky player with upside if he responds to the challenge. He is a ‘tweener lineman with the ability to play tackle in a three-technique role or either end or NT in the 3-4 set.

I was hoping Texas DE Rodrique Wright who was at one point considered a first rounder, but I like athletic DT's with good upside so I'm content with this pick. I'm hoping DE Mark Anderson will be available in round 6 for us and another cornerback would be nice.

P.S. I still wish we could have gotten Jimmy Williams. He could have been our nickel cornerback this year hands down and ready to take over Springs whenever his age started bothering him.

Not a big fan of this pick at all. We need oline and cornerback depth so drafting a dlineman doesn't make sense at all. There were solid cb's available when we picked, like Marcus Maxey.

I'm curious when we are going to go after a TE. I thought that we needed a CB more than a safety.

Hmm. There are a couple of places now where I've read that some scouts believe Montgomery might be a better offensive lineman in the NFL. Wouldn't be the first time Gibbs has taken a look at a defensive linemen with a view to switching him - wasn't that the plan with a guy named Wally Kleine some years ago?

From what little I've read of the guy, underachiever with some talent seems to be a general description. Whatever side of the ball he plays on, I think we can bet that Blache or Bugel will hammer any laziness out of him.

Still seems like a project though, at best.

Wish we had selected TE Jeff King instead in the 5th round. Seems like a Gibbs kind of guy, almost like a Don Warren type, tough blocker, a little slow, smart works really hard. Also liked AJ Nicholson, who went just after our 5th rd. pick. He wasn't rated as high as Rocky McIntosh, but he was a really intriguing prospect who is more about intangibles than measurables. And we could have saved next years 2nd and this years 6th. Oh well.
