What about Cincy? He was unstoppable under Marvin Lewis!

The problem with Cincy, is that Marvin Lewis called LaVar, "the most difficult player he ever coached." LaVar certainly had a monster season that year, once he accepted his role as defensive end, but I'm not sure either of them would be up for a reunion.

Just to clarify, Lavar had a $4.4 million deferred payment coming to him from his signing bonus on his last contract, he waived his right to this payment. So he didn't actually give money back to the team, he just waived his right to a future payment in exchange for being released. Because this deal was techinically struck during the 2005 league year (no new CBA has been reached, its the 2005 league year until they actually start Free Agency), the skins get a credit in 2006 in the amount of 4.4 million.

IMO all of the CBA deadline extensions are a good indication that they are simply not going to let free agency start without a new deal in place, and with the higher salary cap that comes along with that the 4.4 million we've saved is going to net us one great, or two good players. I think we're better off with that then an iffy starter who can't be depended on for anything close to 16 games + post season.

As said by many, I wish Lavar and his family the best of luck in the future. He was the only bright spot during some very rough years.

I was wondering if this was a good move by Lavar, considering he hasn't played much the last couple of years. What kind of money or contract is he expecting?

2. I think just for the sake of insuring trust in the salary cap from some skeptical front offices, the league needs to make sure LaVar Arrington is really going to forego the $4 million in guaranteed money he gave back to Washington to get his freedom now. Not saying it didn't happen, but I am saying with all the money the Redskins have to spare and how convenient it was that the team could find this money after months of hand-wringing over the Arrington deal, the league needs to double-check that the accounting of this is clean.

LOL. Man, it's not like you lost a girl you were in love with. I had those feelings after my girlfriend and I broke up, but not over a football player. Everything will be fine, as long as he gets out of our division.

the thing is also is that Lavar wasn't willing to restructure etheir, so he had to go. He wasn't being a team player. I am going to miss him but you have to buy into the team concept to be succesful.

Well like redskin1 and Boss pointed out he could have waited and made us pay oodles of money. He actually did us a favor as well as himself.

LaVar will be on the John Thompson show at 400pm. You can listen on WTEM Sportstalk980 in the DC area, or online at www.sportstalk980.com.

It should be interesting, because Bram Weinstein seems to think that the Redskins gave him the option to take a HUGE paycut and stay, give up 4mil to be released now, or hang around and be released in July when no team would have any cap space. Perhaps they didn't want to cut one of the most popular players in the greater metropolitan area, so they gave him no choice but to opt out of his contract instead.

He had it at 1200. It was typical Gibbs in that he didn't comment on any controversial questions. He basically just said that over the past few days they had been talking to LaVar's agents, and gone over various deals, and late last night, LaVar decided it was in his best interest to cut his losses and move on.

He also said that he has talked to every player individually that they will probably need to cut, and that 11 players have renogotiated, but would not go into detail.

A reporter also mentioned that Derrick Dockery and Chris Clemons have both been signed to tender offers making them retricted free agents, but Gibbs would not comment on that.

Lastly, Gibbs is hopeful that the CBA will get done, and is encouraged that the deadline keeps getting pushed back.

That was about it.

Okay thanks for the update. I think the reason they extended it again, is so that the owners have more time to fiddle with who to cut to get under that cap. I personally never thought they would get a new CBA done and these extensions are just for the owners, buying time.

I worked all night. I am back up working again.

My goodness. This is a BAD dream or what? My reflections as worthless as they are when I am exhausted:

1) Lavar never fitted well with our LBs coach, GW and Joe Gibbs (sometimes not necessarily in that order). Why? Many reasons each one of us can think about.

2) How can people that I love to love can not get along? I do not know. But the defense will be different, not better or worse, just different.

3) This is a guy with GREAT class and a great HEART. I can only be grateful for what he brought onboard. Yes, the drama was unnecessary but it was a package.

4) Marshall will move to the weak side with great success. This is a very DEEP class of middle LBs in this draft BUT we might be surprised to see a veteran recruited from and/or waived by another team.

5) This departure can be blamed on the OLD way to do business by the Danny and his uncle Vinny. Basically, buy an expensive contract you can not afford in the long run. Count our blessings that we have Joe these days. We would be NOWHERE with these other CLOWNS.

Your opinions when you are exhausted are far more compelling than the opinions of others who are well rested (probably including me!).

Why is everyone assuming that Lemar will move back to weakside? He played MLB which is one of the most cerebral positions on the defense. He will only be better with another year in the system and being more comfortable in recognizing what other teams are doing and where everyone will need to be.

I think we bring in another WLB rather than take the QB of our defense and move him there, just to put a less experienced or new player into a whole new situation.

Well I don't have much to say on this except for I am sad to see my favorite skin leave however with the exception of a few outburst he has always acted and played with class and passion. I look forward to seeing him in a Skins jersy in the HOF one day. I just hope he realizes that if he goes to the Giants, Pukes or Philly he will be severly hated. Respected but hated.
Well what more would you expect out of the "Worst Team" in the "Best Division"

What makes me sad is that I'm really not sad at all that Lavar's gone. I'm sorry it ended the way it did over the last couple of years, and there is fault on both sides for that.

Both Lavar and the 'Skins seem to have got something positive out of the situation, and I hope we can now move forward without the increasingly tiresome circus that seemed to follow Lavar. I wish him well, but I really don't think he'll be missed all that much.

We knew there were going to be some tough choices to make. At least we got something tangible back from him that will help us out in the short term. I, too, wish him nothing but the best...in the AFC somewhere. :)

Just because he's the best option we have on our current roster. I agree with you though, Lemar became an elite MLB last season and that's where I want to see him playing next year.
