* if brunell starts losing a bunch of games with lousy QB play, and ramsey comes in and does well, it will seem clear that it was a mistake to bench ramsey in the first place.

* if brunell stinks it up and we switch to ramsey, only to have him be even worse, it will seem like a mistake to not have traded ramsey and get something for him.

* if brunell plays fine and gets injured, and ramsey comes in and plays fine, it will make me wonder what the point ever was in benching ramsey in the first place.

* if brunell takes us to the superbowl, gibbs will seem like he has recaptured (or never lost) his genius.

In each case you assume Brunell will play poorly, be replaced by Ramsey and Gibbs management of the roster is questioned. The only time Gibbs comes close in your mind is with a trip to Detroit.
What if Ramsey is not ready to play but by the time he is needed he has shown improvement (this would be in practice and WE wouldn't see these improvements)... you don't account for that.
How can a Brinell injury have you question Gibbs choice of a starter...

I completely agree. Actually, I think that Coach Gibbs has maneuvered the Redskins into a rather enviable position at QB. To assume that Brunell will play poorly is just that, an assumption. I think that he's vastly improved over last year, and will show us what he had in Jacsonville. Specifically, I think his mobility will be used more, and will create some options for him. Of course, whether he is improved or not remains to be seen . In the meantime, I'm going to be optimistic about it.

Think about it though, those two bombs that he threw to Moss in the Dallas game were right on the money. They were perfect spirals and caught Moss in stride. The second one travellend in the air 55 yards easily without missing a beat. I think that throw, in itself, went a long way to dispelling the knock on him that his arm lacks the strength needed in todays NFL. There are many aspects of his game, and our offense as a whole that needs to be improved upon. But, Brunell has already shown that he's got the character, the leadership, and the desire to go out there and perform. One thing I liked about his performance in the Dallas game was that after he threw that first TD pass of 39 yards, he didn't lose his poise. He didn't jump up and down as if to say "YEAH, I threw a long TD pass and everyone thought I can't throw anymore". Instead, he was focused on the game at hand, and he knew that more was needed to win the game. He was humble, yet confident. I liked that! And then, he came right back and did it again.

Although I completely disagree with DCD's post, as well as his assesment of the coaches decisions, I agree with him that for us to go far this year, Brunell must build on what he showed us in the Dallas game.

Nothing should be taken for granted, and nothing is a given. With a good work ethic, and dedication to the mission, he could very well do it.

I think there is absolutely no chance Brunell will play well in the NFL this year. He doesn't have the arm strength necessary to throw deep without lofting the ball dangerously. No intermediate passes can be expected to be completed on a regular basis...but will result in a high ratio of picks. The Moss passes were flukes and not likely to keep defenses from jamming the box. Even with the two passes, Brunell is dead last amoung conference quarterbacks and there is little or no chance he'll move up in the ratings. With him at QB we'll struggle to be 8 and 8 and team morale will collapse.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and there were no WMDs, Bush stinks, etc.

This thread is about Ramsey to the Jets, and not Brunell. My 2 cents

Maybe if we keep Ramsey and offer some more fans to the Jets. The Jets need more than a QB (or 2!) - this team needs all the supporters it can get, even bad support is better than no support at all.

You're way off. Brunell's QB rating is 6th in the NFC and 12th in the NFL! He's better than more than 60% of NFL and NFC QBs! I'm not really sure what you're talking about. That doesn't come from just two passes!

I agree!

This thread gives added meaning to the term "byzantine discussion".

I don't know much about physics but I'm guessing throwing a ball 30 plus yards is going to require you to loft it ... unless you're telling me there are QBs who throw the football THROUGH people?
That is AWESOME ... see, this is why I need NFL Sunday Ticket, I'm missing all the blood and gore ... no wonder TO wants a raise

Why lock it? That horse is moving I tell you.

It will be in full gallop as soon as another QB goes down

Now to get back to our topic....

Maybe you're right - whats a few more days, who knows what might happen this w/e? This could be a horse of a different color by Monday!

and the Jets could be riding that QB to glory by then....

i think whether or not ramsey is a viable option for this team has everything to do with whether or not he should go to the jets. as for if he will, i seriously doubt it.

i'll admit you found the hole in my argument. :D i had thought of this while posting but decided to see if anyone else came up with the same thought.

to be honest, when it all comes down to it, i don't care who plays QB for the redskins as long as we win. all i am worried about is whether brunell will get benched in a more timely manner if he starts to really stink it up again this year.

maybe we could find some ramsey "look-alike" and trade him to the jets, keeping the real ramsey, who shall then go under the assumed name "Brock McShulton", who we'll say was an undrafted free agent out of Central Wyoming A&M. ramsey can just grow a mustach and no one will ever know.

On Afternoon Blitz (Sirius NFL Radio), Riggins said he heard the Jets offered a 6th Round pick straight up for Ramsey.

A man with a broken heart is not worth anymore than a 6th round pick!

It was a conditional pick, They want to make sure his heart is really broken.

If his heart isn't broken he won't fit in with all the other broken parts they have up there

I think another issue was that his arm is too strong for Coles.

And the fact he can take a hit made them flinch also. They're used to seeing the QB lay there for awhile

The Redskins refused to discuss trading Ramsey to the Jets...unless Joe has taken to releasing false statements. The six round offer seems like a slur, as well as bogus. The Jets wanted Ramsey as their No. 1.

I said loft dangerously. Don't misquote and then make a joke. It makes you look like a cheap shot artist. Ramsey's 30 yard passes get there quicker that do Brunell's. Is there any argument there?

Probably. Brunell lacked arm strength last year but his passes have really shown some zip this year on some of his passes. Ramsey's got a great arm, but I don't think there's that much of a difference this year--it's just that Brunell uses touch more often than Ramsey does.

Brunell had two lucky throws to Santana...

and boy was it beautiful :)

But where the hell has the offense been in all of the first three quarters? I mean wtf
