I agree completely Will. Gibbs has always been a great innovator. He invented the counter trey and the two TE formation as well as many other formations and plays. He was always a kind of mad genius who knew how to adapt.
I think that last year he came in and imposed his "old" system just because that is what he knew best. Sure, it probably was outdated in many ways but that by no means implies that the NFL has passed him by. His pure injenuity and intelligence will not allow that. Once he really gets to grips with the modern NFL (which I think he is right on the verge of doing) he will not just know how to compete but he will once again be a coach who leads the evolution of the modern NFL game and whom lesser minds follow.
I would say he has already done that in certain ways. He handpicked Gregg Williams to be his defensive coordinator and he made the Moss trade that most people thought was crazy yet in the first two weeks reaped huge rewards. And other than ST not returning his calls (though he certainly had other pronlems) and Coles whining it is clear that he has had no problem bonding with the modern player. This is obvious from the gatorade shower and the fact that every guy except ST attended all of the offseason workouts. Going back to the Gatorade, I saw that and I thought the players were saying "don't worry about all the trash people are saying, we're behind you, we trust you, and we believe in what you're doing." Even if the fans and media haven't bought in I definately think the players have and that's what really counts.

I totally agree with this, but I also think everyone is placing too much emphasis on the idea of Gibbs's "system." It's not like he's trying to install an old copy of Windows 4.0 on a new laptop. The idea that Gibbs has this unchangable system that either will or will not work in today's NFL is ridiculous. His playbook is always changing. Does his "system" include the shotgun? It does now. Not only do the plays evolve over the course of a season, they can change during a halftime (most Redskins fans remember announcers in the second half of games praising his awesome "half-time adjustments").
The truth is that Gibbs's "system" is to run the football, control the line of scrimmage, hold onto the ball, protect the quarterback, and play good defense. This is not a system; this is just good football. But it's called a system because so many teams have tried to circumvent these basic principles to winning. Why? Because nowadays, the truth is that most fans do not want to see good football. They would rather see high-scoring games. Owners want to keep their fans happy, so they encourage their GMs to sign high-priced wide receivers instead of linemen. The result is a league filled with teams that can put up points, can win more games than they lose, can make the playoffs, but cannot win the Super Bowl (see the Eagles). It also results in young fans supporting young quarterbacks that can move the ball down the field but show zero decisionmaking or leadership abilities (see Ramsey).
I don't want the Redskins to score more points. I want them to win. Gibbs will tailor his "system" to his players and the result will be yet another Super Bowl ring. But it's a shame a lot of Redskins fans don't seem to be enjoying the ride...

IMO, The following quote from JG is a good overview of his "System"
"That's why at this level, you have to be able to do everything. You have to run the ball well, throw it well and make big plays. If you're one dimensional, you're not going very far. If they pack the box, you're not running. If they set back on you, you're going to have a tough time throwing. You have to be balanced at this level."
Prior to the fourth quarter of the Dallas game we have not shown the Long Ball threat. Let's hope this is the beginning of things to come and the Redskins O can get going in all phases of the game. If not, Redskin fans will continue to blame individual players and coaches. Just a fact and BH and the staff should understand this. May not always be right but remember someone thought it was worth posting.
Enough said.

Does anyone remember losing in the last 31 seconds last year? how many times has the Cowboys did that to us? to me the win could not have been sweeter!
I had wrote a long post pointing out all the good things about the game and breaking down Gibbs style of football, but that has already been done so I’m just going to leave it at this, That win may have been just what this team needed, they now have proof that if they stick to their game they can win, so agin for more reasons than it was the Cowboys…That win was sweet, and lets let em know it today in the stands make some noise!! BUSH LEAGUE BABY BUSH LEAGUE!!! See ya at the game section 417!
