You're darn right we will.
Who I also want to get is Angelos. I know he set that up. He set up the rain. And he set up not calling a Rain Delay when we were ahead by a run. I want him to pay for that crap!

what really ticked me off was the field looked like crap when our guys were out there defending.... but when the Braves came out in the middle of the 9th, they came out and put fresh dirt and sand everywhere... where's the home field advantage?
That game should have atleast been delayed before the 9th even started... kinda BS to me... we need every win we can get in this division... because it's only going to get tougher....

I haven't read all of this thread yet, so if I'm being redundant, I apologize. But, MAN I was just watching some highlights of the Nats game vs the Mets the other night. The Nats are one seriously bad team. They remind me of that Movie Major League. Or, does anyone remember "The Bad News Bears"? I sure hope the Nats have a long range plan in place, because they suck right now! If they're lucky, they're on par with an average College team.
Don't get me wrong, aside from the Angels, I love The Nats.

...and your opinion after today's game vs. the Mets? 17 hits in an 11-4 win. I don't think they're close to being THAT bad!

Every team is going to have a game like that every now and then, even Colorado will have one of those days. But, give me consistent 6-3 victories over one lopsided defeat anyday!!

10-9 in the toughest division in baseball.... and only one game back...
only one series outside our division, and we sweped that...
I think we're holding our own through the first month... we're only one game back from your Angles.....it's not our fault we don't play in the cozy American League.. :-"

One month does not a season make. Let's address the issue again in three months.

honestly, how many Nats games have you seen in Boston right now? I've watched all of them that have been on Television and have been to one game... and although they're not playing like the White Sox right now... they certainly are no where near what you described... and I came into this season
expecting them to be bad....

Oh, ABSOLUTELY!! I couldn't agree more. But, as the defending AL West Champs and a lineup that includes the reigning AL MVP and experienced veterans who many people pick to be serious WS contenders, I think the instant season is brighter for The Angels than The Nats. Hopefully, The Nats have a long term strategy for the future.

Actually, I work for the Federal Govt. so I'm in Washington D.C. almost as much as I'm in Boston, and I've been to two games. In addition, I have a satellite dish that picks up a lot of the games. When I'm in D.C., which is approximately 14 days per calendar month, I watch every Nats game that's on television while I'm there. I think maybe you misunderstood my point. I think that right now, they're playing so bad from a fundamental standpoint. They make a lot of fundamental mistakes. WAY too many errors, silly errors at that. Sometimes it's comical to watch the way they play, but in many ways, I attribute it to the condition fo the field at RFK. It's atrocious.

yes... they do make a ton of errors... so if that's where your coming from... I agree... I guess from my point of view... I was thinking the we have so many tough division rivals in the NL East... we were going to stink and sit at the bottom all season... this opening month has been a surprise to me... and I know the chances of us still competing come September are slim... but that doesn't stop me from keeping my fingers crossed..
for now anyways....

The schedule that The Nats have can only make them a better team. I think, in the long run and if they have a good front office in place, they're only a few years away from being good contenders. I just hope the fans and the media don't want instant gratification like so many people in the NFL do. That's why I said that I hope they have a long term strategy, because quite frankly, there was no hope while they were in Montreal. Now, there's hope for the future provided the fans don't get impatient. I wanna see some people at those games.

We don't need a good front office in place right now. What we need is for Angelos to quit sticking himself in the Nationals business. He needs to let up and manage his own team. If he chooses not to do that then his team will continue to stink it up again this year.

The Nats need to trade Terrmel Sledge and get a good left-handed reliever. They need to do this ASAP. Church appears to be the regular LF on this team, and Davis plays against lefties because, while he can't do much else, he does kill the ball off southpaws. In fact, I wouldn't be opposed to trying to package Sledge along with a current rightie starter to try to get a leftie starting pitcher. The main reason being that, while the rotation seems to be working alright now, I don't think it's going to hold up with five right-handed starters.
I like Sledge even though he is an ugly and weird looking man. He has speed, he has good range, he is a quality fielder, and he can hit. I would like to keep him if there was somewhere to play him. Unfortunately, even though Church isn't hitting and got mixed up Sunday night against the Mets when he let that ball get over his head, apparently seems to be the favorite amongst the two. In fact, I don't blame Robinson for starting Church. He's got more potential as a whole, I think, than Sledge.
So let's trade Sledge away. There are teams that absolutely need a player like him. Just to name a few: the Cubs, Braves (unlikely because they're in the same division), Royals, Dodgers, Yankees, Astros, and Giants. My choice would be to send Sledge to Kansas City for Andy Sisco, if they can get it done. Let's on it, Jimmy Bowden!

But then I won't get to yell "Sledge Hammer" at the games
We do need a left handed reliever desperately though. I'm glad Loaiza finally got a W last night against the Dodgers. He's been pitching well so it was only a matter of time.
Injuries are going to derail this team if they keep piling up - they have no depth.
I agree though, I like Sledge but if we could trade him for a lefty or some depth, it definitely should be considered.

Well Sledge is hurt now, Grade 2 hamstring pull/strain/injury whatever you want to call it. Church is the everyday LF again, and apparently Cepicky is probably going to be called up. I think that's a bad idea. I wouldn't call up Cepicky. I would just start practicing Blanco in LF, since I personally think he's a better hitter than Cepicky.
Besides, this gives the Nats the opportunity to use Eischen's DL trip to call up Joe Horgan, and then use Sledge's DL trip to call up Matt White. They can try out both guys, and then send down whichever one isn't performing.

My apologies if this has already been posted.
From USA Today:
The Nationals continue to seek a trade for Rockies center fielder Preston Wilson, but they want the Rockies to pick up virtually his entire $12.5 million salary.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/colu ... -off_x.htm
I have nothing against Preston Wilson, but I don't think he would be a great fit for the Nats. Right now they need a true leadoff man with speed to play center at RFK. Wilson is a nice player, but his strengths don't really seem to fit out team or our field.
Preston Wilson's player page:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/s ... atsId=5994
Additionally, the rumor is that Zach Day will be involved in the trade (no link, read this on MLB.com's Nationals message board). Apparently Day is in Frank Robinson's doghouse, but even so he has shown some flashes this season.
I'm all for acquiring a centerfielder, but I say we pass on Wilson...

SSIII, I completely agree about Wilson. There are better trades out there and we have better needs to fill.
BTW - anyone going to the Nats/Cubs game tonight or over the weekend? I'll be there tonight.

BTW, do you know if the game will be on WGN 18? (The Chicago station) I know, It's sad that I get that and TBS (Atlanta's sports station) and don't even get to see a teaat plays half an hour away.

I wanna go with my boys to the Nats game on Sunday, after church. Any idea if there are any cheap tickets still available, or is it a sold out game. We were thinking about walking up to the stadium box office to score some tickets. I know the Cubs have a huge following, but will they sell out all weekend?

Redeemed - Go to
www.natfanatics.com - it's the equivalent of thehogs.net for the Nats (official fan club site basically). Register and they have a ticket exchange button. If you don't see any on there, just post a thread and someone's bound to have some... it's like this site, they can't sell them for more than face value.
That's how I got mine for tonight's game. The same seats were going through secondary ticket outlets for like 90 a pop and I paid face value ($35 seats)... hope that helps.
Go Nats!

Jake - do you have DirecTV? If so, go to channel 626 - Or, I would hope, at the very least, it will be on WGN! This TV thing is so stupid. It's holding up the potential ownership groups and is a major annoyance for fans.
Or, you can follow it on Nationals.com (if you want to pay like 14 bucks/mo, MLB.TV isn't bad... grainy, but not bad.
Sorry for the sloppy post - gotta run!

The Nationals beat the Cubs for the first time in team history last night, 4-3. Go Nats!
Jim Bowden made another move Saturday.
He sent Endy Chavez to Philly for Marlon Byrd.
I think Byrd is somewhat decent but I think Chavez had a lot of potential. He was the fastest guy on the team. I think Bowden gave up on Endy too quickly.
Philadelphia Phillies- Washington Nationals: The Nationals acquired Marlon Byrd from the Phillies for Endy Chavez in a swap of former starting center fielders who had fallen out of favor with their teams.
"I don't think either player was going to go forward in the organization they were in," Nationals general manager Jim Bowden aid. "They both have ability and they both have to make adjustments if they're ever going to revive their careers."
Byrd was once a prized prospect for the Phillies -- he finished fourth in NL rookie of the year voting in 2003 after hitting .303 with seven homers, 28 doubles and 45 RBI in 135 games. He began last season as the team's leadoff hitter but struggled badly and was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in June. He finished with a .228 batting average, five homers and 33 RBI in 106 games with Philadelphia.
Byrd was hitting .390 in spring training before dislocating his right ring finger on March 20. He started the season on the disabled list and batted .368 with three homers and five RBI in five games of a rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A. Called up early this month, he was 4-for-13 in five games with the Phillies.
Bowden said the 27-year-old Byrd, the 2001 Eastern League MVP at Double-A Reading, would report to the Nationals in time for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
The speedy Chavez had a similar decline with the Washington franchise. The club's primary center fielder the past two seasons in Montreal, he lost his job in spring training when manager Frank Robinson soured on Chavez because of his low on-base percentage.
After stealing 32 bases last year with the Expos, Chavez began this season in the minors. He was called up May 3 and hit .222 in seven games for the Nationals before being optioned back to Triple-A New Orleans a week later. But the last-place Phillies think Chavez can help their struggling offense.
"We acquired an outfielder with exceptional speed, a guy that can bring a lot of energy to the team and gives us another versatile outfielder," Wade said. "He will be sharing time with Jason Michaels and Kenny Lofton in center field but can play all three outfield positions."
