When comparing the "circumstances" of Coles and Portis, at least the broncos got more for Portis. They got Champ Bailey and a 2nd round pick. No offense but I'd rather have Champ and a 2nd rounder then Santana Moss. Coles asking for a trade is worse because the Redskins probably didn't get good value for him.

I don't think that we got his value in exchange from the Jets either, gilbertarenas. But it would have been even worse had we simply cut him or tried to make him play unhappy this year. Gotta take what you can get sometimes, I think.
With any luck, Moss will have a better year than Coles anyway. I'm excited to have some finesse on our receiving squad, which has its share of quality possesion guys (in my opinion) with McCants, Thrash, and Jacobs (and now Patten!).

And they already have.
One of the first questions from the NY press (linked by TCW, but I'm too lazy tonight to go find it) was "If you can't play for a Hall of Fame coach, how are you going to play for Herm Edwards?" Coles refused to answer.

Mark those words, they will come back to hunt Coles in the future

... coles had an outstanding vibe with chad pennington and the jets should benefit from them knowing each others game so well & i do think that you guys got less value in the deal, but santana is a legit player. he has speed out his #&% to open up the middle for portis and pretty good hands with balls throw right to him, or near the sidelines ... where you'll notice the biggest difference is the throws over the middle or if he has to leave himself open for a hit on the catch he is not as reliable as l-c ... he also is going to be a better than average punt returner for you, with the only aggravating factor being his penchant to head for the sidelines to avoid being hit...

i think that's a moot question, because gibbs would never allow that pile of trash to ever come back again.
however, if some strange thing happened and he DID come back, my attitude would be "that sack of crap had better play REALLY FRICKIN' WELL to make up for what he did before." not that he could ever earn forgiveness, he is way beyond redemption. but he would at least be allowed to live if he played really well.

I've been thinking about things with Coles recently. Is it possible that he is/was a "closeted" malcontent, ungrateful piece of trash? As I recall he was very spiteful and vocal towards Herm Edwards and the Jets when they didn't bring him back, although Coles chose to go where the money was. Now that he is back in New York, he is talking trash about Gibbs and the Skins. Coles isn't generally viewed as a malcontent, but I would guess that he doesn't have the character to withstand tough times, especially when things don't go his way. He was upset a few years ago and voiced it, and the same holds true for now. If anything, he should be grateful. I read today on ESPN that if he plays out his entire contract with the Jets, that he will be one of the highest paid WRs in NFL history over the past 2 years and the new contract with the Jets. Being that he isn't even discussed as one of the top five receivers currently in football, I find this quite funny. From all this, I can only conclude one thing: Coles is garbage....
