Chik Hernandez on Comcast Sportsnight said he hears from players that LaVar blows up the offense in practice and they might say something to coaches soon about getting the guy in the game. I want to see him play like the player he used to be within Gregg's system. What ever happend to Gregg playing all his defensive guys. You know that whole we have no starters, we play everyone thing.

I hope what Chick said about LaVar is true. You bring up a very good point in the last two sentences.

Hopefully this is a sign that Lavar will get in. If he's doing good in practice then Im all for him being in the game.

What do you guys think will happen if a rift of sorts grows between the players and coaches over this?

No, actually, he did not. You didn't read page 57 in its entirety.

I will say this, I was very proud of him for not allowing himself to be cornered into answering questions that would get him in hot water. He sounded genuinely contrite this week. I hope that's a good sign.

For some reason, no. Check back tomorrow.

Here's a recap of his 10/18/05 on-air interview...

- Would rather talk about the game than the other stuff; "everything else will work itself out."

-Team is learning to compete, and believing that they can win. No reason we shouldn’t be a 5-0 team.

- Talking “quarters”: 3-1 in 1st quarter; 0-1 in 2nd quarter of season.

- Lack of INTs/turnovers is due to Qbs throwin’ balls away, since defense is coming at ‘em. Offense are max protecting their Qbs against the Skins’ defense.

- Commented on Joe’s outburst re: media: Joe trying to avoid giving other team locker room material.

- Defense is making weekly adjustments to avoid same mistakes.

- Told to “Smokin’Al”: “Don’t do it”(ask about his lack of playing time).

- Doesn’t think media obligations come back to bite him in the rear. Does not think he makes comments that are disparaging to the team and organization. Doesn’t affect the tpe of player he is, or his preparation for the games.

- “Old School” coaches wouldn’t have players doin’ interviews. He plays for an old school coach. The only reason he does media is to “give fans an opportunity to get another side of who I am.”

- Played on Special Teams last week because someone got ill; his number was called.

- Felt like a kid again, when his number was called. Playing full time again would be “a blessing.”

- To beat the Niners, they have to control TOP, and TO ratio. “We have the makings of a serious team here.”

- END--

As long as the team continues to improve and piles up the wins, this won't be an issue.

I, too, am all for him being on the field, if he's performing well day in and day out.

(d)oink wrote:I liked the way the post article ended. Lavar needs to step up a liitle more and coaches need to get him in in certain situations (3rd and long).

Let's try that.

From the WP article...

"The one thing people have to understand is there is no vendetta here," Blache said. "We want to win, and we've all been around long enough to know what it takes to win, and you can't talk your way into a win in this league, you got me? You can bust your hump and do as much as you can and still lose. So we're trying to stack everything we can in our favor to get it done, and hype ain't going to do it; reputation is not going to do it. You've got to do it based on what you do on a daily basis."

"It's very simple to earn the trust," Blache said. "The ball is in the player's court. We have an audition every day. Show me something. Don't talk to me. It's not how much of a media darling you are. It's not how much people are paying you. Show me. The thing that boggles my mind is we're missing the obvious here. Obviously there's something here that's not getting done. And it's obvious that if things were being done on a daily basis, if there was improvement, if there was production, then it's going to happen. We've already invested the money -- millions, millions. You understand? It ain't like we're saving a cent. We're just trying to win."

 That was the first time I'd heard/read those quotes, and they were truly shocking to read, not because I don't think they're right (after all I said the same things about Lavar in the past), but because it is evident that this coaching staff doesn't think Lavar is a complete player...yet.

Okay partol man :D He skipped the issue about his playing time or a lack thereof. Either way, I hope this means that he doing what he is told in an effort to get back into the game.

I go to the Fed Ex games regularly, and I can tell you that even if it were a strategy to get the crowd involved, Lavar coming onto the field would send the crowd into a feverish, ear busting frenzy.

LaVar has been here a lot longer than Greg Williams and has played well despite how bad our team has been. Why should we doubt him when he says he doesn't know why he's not playing, why should we assume that he's the one to blame?

"I'd rather talk about the game," Arrington said at the start of the show. "All the other stuff will work itself out. What we're learning as a team is that we can compete with anyone. There's no doubt about that. We're also starting to understand that we can win. With this bunch of guys, with the coaches giving us the game plans, we're not only put in position to win, we're believing we should win. There's no reason we shouldn't be 5-0 right now."

The Kansas City Star's various accounts of the Chiefs' victory Sunday over Washington never used the word "Redskins." About 40 protesters came to Arrowhead Stadium to protest the team's nickname. In a story about the protest, the paper said, "The Star's policy is not to use Washington's team name because it is a racial slur."

Indeed. I was proud of Lavar for putting a halt to the show's hosts. He genuinely sounded like he did not want to address the issue, opting instead to focus on the big picture, the team. It certainly sounded like he wanted to play for the team, and couldn't wait to get in. That sounds very promising.

Jason Whitlock chimes in on the situation:

In his '10 More NFL Truths column, JW wrote:5. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder deserves credit for allowing Joe Gibbs to bench LaVar Arrington.

You hear all the horror stories about Snyder's being a meddlesome owner who has ruined the Redskins. You never hear the good stuff.

How many NFL owners would let a guy they gave an eight-year, $80 million contract rot on the bench? Even if the guy was a stiff, most owners would demand that a player in Arrington's situation play simply because of the dollars involved.

Arrington, despite a 2004 knee injury, isn't a stiff. He can still do the things that made him a three-time Pro Bowler. Arrington just isn't "assignment sound" enough for Joe Gibbs and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

Gibbs and Williams adopted the defensive approach that has been the mainstay of Bill Belichick's New England defenses. Belichick will sacrifice athleticism at linebacker for players who will always fill the right gap.

The word redskin is a derogatory word. A Chief is the head of a tribe and someone who is respected. They aren't the same at all. If you want to be educated as to what a redskin is let me know.

We've been over this territory before. The team was named in HONOR of its coach, who was part Sioux. The team had many Indian players, and took pride in the name.

Additionally, the name was perfectly fine for 70 years, but all of the sudden we are supposed to think this is more important to Indians than the real issues facing them, like poverty and education?

Also, this is way off-topic.

Ill go out on a limb and say that he's reffering to this...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/20/AR2005102001276.html

"He's had a really good week of practice," Williams said of Arrington. "I feel real good about his playing and real good about where he's at. The last two weeks, he's taken some strides physically. It looks like his legs are back. He's bouncing around pretty good out there."

Oh goodness who would have thougt? Lavar getting back into football shape and practicing good has equaled to playing time. SHOCK  AWE  I'm soooo freaking surprised.

*goes to look for crow picture. There will be a crow thread coming down the pipe.

One more thing. If Lavar comes away in this game with 2 sacks and goodness forbid anymore than that. I predict that this thread will have an additional 30 pages worth of posts in it by the following game. I'll tell you right now, I'm happy to see him out there but this is the 49ers. I believe they have a rookie QB and the worst O in the league. I'll take this performance with a grain of salt thank you. It'll go straight to my hips, I have to keep my figure.

On Redskins.com Greg Williams actually said that Lavar had a great week of practice and that he "felt good" about him playing schematically and physically.

I can't wait to see this, I hope he is being truthtful.
