And DAL had 8 drives the entire game, 5 of them scoring, with only 1 REAL 3 and out. DAL's drives were:
- 13 plays, 76 yards (FG)
- 9 plays, 94 yards (TD)
- 10 plays, 43 yards (FG)
- 10 plays, 75 yards (TD)
- 2 plays, 9 yards (Fumble)
- 3 plays, 4 yards (punt)
- 11 plays, 80 yards (TD)
- 3 plays, 1 yard (running/run down the clock objective drive)
HOW IN THE F#$& is that a B-???????
That is HORRIBLE. That is a D- grade AT BEST!!!!!!!
I agree that Cousins' INT in the endzone was demoralizing and horrible, but it was our DEF that allowed them to drive 80 yards down the field on 11 plays for an EASY score.
Right now, our major CLEAR CUT #1 issue is our DEF (collectively ranked 3rd worst in the NFL), then Cousins and OC playcalling (which I can't decide which is worse right now). Absolutely no team should rely on their OFF putting up an average of 33 ppg in order to win games.
Your only seeing what you want to, that's why.
Call it a C+. Passing grade. Average, but got the job done.
For them to hold dullass to 2 field goals, a three and out, AND a turnover is NOT sub-par. For our leader and captain to turn around and Shjt the bed in spite of those gifts is on HIM. He not only screwed the pooch by not capitalizing on the 3 and out and by settling on a Fg on the TO, Kirk also put them back on the field repeatedly with poor throws and missed chances. The drive after the int is ALL on him... how demoralizing to have your LEADER piss the game away in front of your eyes from the 8 yrd line?!?
If you think that Rookie Dak and alllllll them weapons on O "ain spit" then you're mistaken. That's a SOLID group.
Our D did enough to seal the deal for our "high powered offence"
I'm only seeing what I want????? I am one of the most objective guys on this board. I think Cousins is playing below average. No question. The team is relying too much on him. If I were the GM and this continued, I'd bench him by week 12 and not resign him. And he did sh!% the bed on that 4Q INT, but he also got 23 points --- which should be enough to win a close game (above the league average, see below). But our QB situation isn't our biggest issue --- it's our DEF.
I also think the old "I'm only seeing what I want" is actually the other way around....... and coming from someone notoriously guilty of it --- see years 2013-2015..... You need to get educated on some meaningful stats. See below and keep in mind you are giving an "average" DEF grade based on the reality below:

1. The AVERAGE DEF points against is 22.7 ---- NOT 27..... As stated, 27 is in the D+ range (an average of 27 ppg puts us at 25th out of 32 teams).
2. NFL DEFs are currently averaging 2.6 TOs PER GAME (we currently have 2 TOTAL, or >3 TOs LESS than average overall). You are giving our defense EXTRA POINTS (see italics above) FOR A BELOW AVERAGE OUTPUT!!!!! WTF???? When combined with the 27 given up, it lowers to a D or D-.
3. Currently, the average number of "3 and out" drives per team this year is 4.8 (or 2.4 per game). Our DEF held DAL to (technically) 2 (and PIT to 0), which even though the second was a gift and shouldn't be counted (but must because I don't have the time to go back and see how many similar drives and discount), it is STILL below the current average http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/three-and-out-percentage/2016/ So why you give "above average" points to below average output, I have no clue --- except it is to place more blame elsewhere and your notorious habit of seeing what you want to...... After all our DEF only has 1 actual 3 and out stop this year..... gross.
4. Our offense has 20 total drives this season (ranked 30th in the NFL). This CLEARLY shows that our DEF stays on the field longer due to longer drives/yards per possession by the opponent. Now, the fact we are #1 in the NFL in least 3 and outs means we stay on the field which can result in less opportunities, but when you factor in this: the current average NFL OFF drive is 31.5 yards; and against DAL, DAL's offense averaged 43.2 yards per drive and against PIT, PIT's offense averaged 48.7 yards per drive ---- it appears to be an issue on the DEF side..... in not getting our OFF more opportunities. Why you're also giving "extra points" to "holding" their OFF to a 76 yard, 19 play and 43 yard, 10 plays drives (both over average) blows my mind....
5. Scoring on 63% of opponent drives in NOT AVERAGE (or "slightly above average"). The average scoring drive percentage is 35.6%. Ironically, our offense scores on 45% of our drives, but the fact we only average 19.5 ppg (roughly 3.2 ppg below average) shows that we need to convert roughly one FG drive into a TD per game.
6. Our DEF averaging 408.5 yards per game against (tied for 26th in the NFL). Our OFF averages 408 ypg....
There are more, but I've run out of time. Regardless, our DEF has not done enough to "seal" anything except a "L".
Also ---- when Cousins threw that INT, we were WINNING. It was our DEF that allowed DAL to march down the field 80 yards on 11 plays..... not Cousins. Lets place some blame where it belongs; I'd say it was at least 51% (and that is being generous) on the DEF. I think the above stats speak for themselves. The fact you don't SEE this blows my mind.... clear eyes, full hearts brother.
And our OFF isn't "high powered" to say the least. Cousins has been inconsistent and hesitant, we never addressed the glaring holes at RB, C, OG, RT, and TE2 this offseason (and no, I don't think Vernon Davis was a "good" pickup, never did). This offensive (even if Cousins steps up) is still at least a couple years from being an "above average" one. We have GREAT weapons (arguably the best in the NFL) at WR --- but we are still a one-dimensional offense with little to no rushing attack and a suspect OL.
