Given our passing games struggles I'm picking:

Here's to a good game and may the victor take it all the way to Santa Clara!

Worst thing about these Packers fans is that so many of them seem like decent folks.
I've always liked Green Bay personally, being that small market team owned by the fans and still being so successful. Loved watching Favre. Reggie White. Usually the team I've followed when the Skins have been done for the season.
Can't wish them well this weekend though. I'm hoping this is the start of a new NFC rivalry!

There are some that look at the 2 QBs and for sure, Aaron Rodgers is a really good QB - that ALSO was the case last week, at home, in a must win game, how'd that go for Aaron Rodgers?
I was at a playoff game with the Packers in 1972 in DC that we won 16-3 - Billy Kilmer (7 of 14 for 100 yards) with Roy Jefferson and Charley Taylor PLUS Larry Brown (25/101) - I doubt we're holding this Pack team to 3 points but I doubt that they're scoring as many as we will
H A I L - we have the players and we're playing well - should be a good game

If the Redskins secondary can play as well as Minnesota's did last week, there is good reason to believe the Redskins should win. I am not terribly worried about GB's running attack. They will get some yards, but I think it will be more 10+ yd runs, followed by 1 or 2 yd runs, and then another gash. It will be inconsistent enough that it will force GB into longer passing downs, and that's where the secondary and coverage sacks need to come in big.
On the other side of the ball, I worry about GB's star LB Clay Matthews playing a spoiler role much like Sean Lee did on the MNF game in DC. The Cowboys were without Sean Lee last Sunday and man did it show. If somehow the Redskins can minimize the impact of Matthews on defense, then I see enough plays to Reed, Jackson and Co. to get the points needed to get to the divisional round next week.
Fingers crossed for minimal numbers of cheese head fans! For those that will be there, be loud and be heard! In the other superstitious category, the Redskins do play well in late Sunday afternoon games in recent history compared to early games or the dreadful MNF record.

That's one big IF, brother!
Would be a nice time for one of those big time Breeland games, that's for sure. Or maybe Carey Williams will show up off the street, have a beast game and make McCloughan look like a genius.

The key is that pass rush...21 sacks over the last 6 game tops in the NFL!!!

We've had Packers fans stopping by THN for as long as I can remember, and IMHO they have been the most polite and interesting guests out of all our visitors.
It's hard to hate the Packers: of course we share the connection with Vince Lombardi, and they are one of the true classic franchises of the NFL. Plus, the team itself has always been pretty classy and has put many a beatdown on some of the Redskins' worst enemies.
I'm kind of a Packer fan when I don't have any Washington-related rooting interests in a game.

I have many reasons to be optimistic so I will only list a few concerns.
Our schedule was relatively weak while the Pack's was relatively brutal.
Pack was 6-0 then went 4-6 but look at the losses: DEN, CAR, DET, CHI, ARZ, VIK
We were 2-4 then went 7-3 with these wins: NOS, NYG, CHI, BUF, EAG, COW
This would be a bit of a statement win for us.
I think experience is often overrated but the one thing it will do for the Pack is keep them confident for 60 mins - unless we are absolutely killing them deep into the 2nd half.
I like us 23-20.

I'm thinking the wet weather will affect the field and I think it is to our advantage, I see a ball control game with Reed and Garcon doing the lions share with short passes.
Skins, 24-10

it now looks like Sam Shields who would have been covering Garcon is not going to be playing this Sunday ...

I hope the team hasn't got too satisfied just getting there. I haven't watched the Packers lately so I don't have any thoughts about them but I am concerned about the Skins just being happy making it to the playoffs. My concerns about this emotional aspect is counterbalanced by their evident joy in playing well down the stretch.
A victory in the first round would really light the candles on a big thick cake that has been already thoroughly iced with much desired but unexpected success. A playoff win would be over the moon huge for Gruden, massive for Cousins and the rest of the guys who everyone discounted in August. Imagine how this would unify the fan base!

I share all of your feelings though I have watched the Packers a lot lately. The Packer defense is strong and they are certainly not satisfied yet. I doubt we are either but is the kind of feeling that can set in if you fall behind in the second half. The Packers are too confident and too experienced to let that happen until very very late. We are emotionally vulnerable in this regard - but we have played very well down the stretch and I am sure we want more. We also know we can come back now since we have done it before.
We are still hungry so we either need to build a lead or just keep it close and on this emotional aspect of the game we will be fine. I think we grew up a lot this year.

I think you're right about igniting the fans. I was laughing listening to Gary Clark on the radio the other day. He talked about how in the 80s it was considered a major failure when the team didn't at least get to the second round of the playoffs. We need to get back to THOSE expectations!
Also was thinking about this game and Gruden. There's been a lot of well deserved credit given to Cousins and McCloughan this year. The verdict is still out on the coaches though to some extent. I'm thinking this game will tell us a lot about the coaching staff. Such a big game - have they prepared a plan to at least give us a chance to win? Do they have the team mentally prepared? Are they able to adjust if things don't go well immediately? Will be interesting to see.

The Packers are hoping that their playoff history and great QB can help them win a game
The Redskins are hoping that their play on the field can win the game, the focus this week is just continue doing what we've been doing recently
I'm not sure we're going far in these playoffs but I think we'll be playing next week
joy and cake please

I'm hoping we come out guns blazing!!! A 3 and out on D and a quick six on our opening drive will have the crowd going ape *sh$t*, and with our new approach: pedal to the metal- we should be able to ride that momentum and build a SOLID lead.
Packers D is NOT that good. Clay is a savage, but losing AJ Hawk hurt them... And they are worse at DB then we are IMO. While I can see some good play from Mathews, this isn't a team that strikes fear into their opponents. We need to win the turn over battle (but of course) and without looking up the stats: I don't think turnovers is something that the pack's D is overly good at. With Kirk getting rid of the ball quick, I think they will struggle to contain all of our wide outs AND Reed. I think they can do a good job of stopping the run, however, but between Thompson and Thomas we should be able to get the RBs involved through the air.
Our D is underrated and stats misleading, as mentioned. We are playing stingy until we have a comfortable lead as of late, creating turnovers and getting home with the pass rush. Getting ahead by a good bit and then "giving it up underneat" skews the D statisticaly. Stopping Lacy consistently is a minor concern, but I think if we can get a decent lead the Packers will be forced to turn away from him.
I'm prepared to see a good battle, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to throw a bully beat down early, and as we move to the prevent D and try to just run and run down the clock on O, the Pack nearly crawls back into it- ala fecals game.
I'm goin with 34-24 da SKINS

Thank you sir! I haven't been around much (obviously) cuz the season stunk for all of us......but again, as a rival, you guys are OK. I just dislike the Pack so much that I can root for you guys this weekend. Why not? Cousins is OK. I think he will serve your team better than RGIII. Who, by the way, I do not want in Dallas.
Have a great game tomorrow. Go Skins.

The Pack's defense is good but I think our defense is the key here ...
ASHBURN, Va. -- Pregame notes and analysis on the Washington Redskins as they prepare to play the Green Bay Packers on Sunday:
Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan helped change the culture because of the players he acquired. That much we've known. McCloughan wanted guys who loved playing and would prepare accordingly. Also, they needed to share his passion for the game. In changing the culture, McCloughan also helped increase the energy level. It’s not just him; corner DeAngelo Hall pointed out how much defensive coordinator Joe Barry has done the same on that side of the ball. “The message is always the same from a defensive coordinator, ‘We have to get to them. We have to stop the run. We have to eliminate big plays,’ “ Hall said. “It’s been the message since little league. But it’s something about the way a guy delivers that message that tends to inspire people and Joe Barry has been that guy since Day 1.”
McCloughan has added players that have helped change the culture here ... Joe Barry has taken it to another level
Our defense has to continue to play well and the offense should be able to do enough to help seal the win

Today is dragging on it's not even 11:00 AM and I'm starting to reach just before kickoff excitement level. I may have to watch a replay of the giants, philly or dallas game to take the edge of my jones.
If the weather was nicer I'd walk 9 just to take the edge off. My head says just enjoy today but my heart is screaming anything can happen and today it starts!

10 years since our last win - the good thing is that I think these guys could give a rats ass about history or anything they just want to play well
Packers fans are grasping at straws because right now "history" and past Packer playoff stuff is all they've got - Rodgers is an X factor because he's truly a great QB but unfortunately he does not block, tackle or catch and the other guys are not doing that very well at this time
I'm looking forward to seeing the Scot McCloughan effect make the difference here - Joe Barry has the defensive guys really believing in themselves and the offense just needs to not make mistakes so we can pull out the win

I hear you. I want this team to win so bad I can taste it. A young HC, OC, DC, and QB, with a proven GM on board that are all on the same page and successful seemed like a pipe dream a year ago. A loss today would be heartbreaking, even though the majority of us would have been mostly content with showing progress at 8-8 and no playoffs.
I can't take this! I'm waiting for the "old" Redskins to show up and **** the bed. Prove me wrong, guys!

Nicer? Have you been outside today?? I took down the christmas lights in shorts.
Been listening to radio coverage all day. I heard Larry Michaels noting that cars were lined up to get into Fedex as early as he remembers seeing. Definitely seeing tons of facebook friends at the game already. Hope we see the fans make a big difference out there.
Really nervous, but looking forward to getting this show started. I have the cooler well stocked and the beers on ice. Might need it to keep my cool.
