Obviously, we're keeping the name for the forseeable future, but we were engaged in a what if scenario. If the team changed it's name, no way would we retain the fight song version with the word Redskins in it. NO WAY!

Yeah, I don't see Snyder changing the name. That said, if he is more-or-less forced to, I think he should change it to the Washington Red Tape.

I'd love to see you or someone with you, try and get the Washington Redskins marching band to stop playing at games played by the Washington Hillbillies or whomever they are - that band is staying in the gear and playing Hail to the Redskins after every "Hillbilly" TD - guaranteed

It's pretty simple, if the team name changed, the owner (be it Danny or someone else) would have the lyrics changed to accompany the new name and theme. The band just plays the music. I'm sure the fans would sing the old lyrics anyway. But the band attends the games at the owner's pleasure, and they would find themselves out on the street if they didn't comply with the organization's wishes.

I really think the "Washington Algoncin-Delaware Redskins" Would work.

it tells the haters "take your small little mind to an O.E.D. (Oxford English Dictionary - the definitive word on the English language) and let the truth chain thy tongue".

it isn't really a name change, so we're not buckling. It's an extension, for clarification.

it preserves our RIGHT to call our team what we choose.

it preserves our logo and name (can you see commentators constantly adding the extra syllables?)

it presents new marketing opportunities with 'extended name/ alternative logo' crap

it legally staves off attempts to misrepresent our name as offensive

but. . .

if the world sucked enough that we lost our beloved identity . . .
if the whiners and haters stripped us of the right to sing our beloved fight song when we score . . .

I like Braves also because I like having an American Indian identity but Braves might be problematic because some of the hard core objectors don't like any Native American reference and even if it passed muster for the moment the team would risk having the goalpost moved in the future.

Other thoughts include Washington; Revolution or Revolutionaries as another poster suggested, Rebels, Defiance, Independence, or Freedom. For those who think the name should reflect how much of the country feels about DC maybe one of these should get consideration; Hogs, Pork, Liars, Tyrants, Wastrels, Backscratchers, Corruption, Demigods, Logrollers, Majority, or Incumbents.
