Hey, I only said something about Champ because Champsturf decided to ad him into this thread.... and we can debate all day wether he whined or not but you can't argue that he didn't want to be a Redskin....
I just think it's silly that everyone's bashing this guy because he doesn't want his name and face on everything... I mean this guy came to the NFL to play football and get paid for it.... Maybe he's not comfortable letting someone else being in control of his image... and as a human, he has the right to do that.... just to clarify, i'm not talking about the shirts or games. i'm talking about the contract that he signed, and obviously wants no part of. first, it was shy 6.5 mil. now he dosen't remember signing with the nflpa. WTF???? why did it take 4 months to realize something was wrong? like i said CRACK ROCK.
my take: the postons @#$%ed up. first they filed the grievance, now to try to prove their first point, they've added another part of the deal that lavar wasn't "aware" of. i guess the redskins just forged the signature by lavar, and the initials by the agents to get what they wanted.
HELLO....lavar is doing nothing at this point but making an

of himself.
read wingmans sig, "if you aren't doing something to help the team, you're hurting it." lavar isn't doing anything but hurting the team at this point.
from joe gibbs, "don't do anything to embarass the redskins." if lavar didn't have such a huge contract, gibbs an co. would have already sent him packing.

please don't play the card that we should feel sorry for lavar because he's been on a losing team..WHAT ABOUT THE FANS!! the team has been losing and lavar is apart of that team. if lavar is tired of losing than MAKE A PLAY!!! win us a game. wasn't it like 3 or 4 games in arow last year that our defense gave a lead in a late 4th quarter drive...where was lavar then, probably out of position, probably over persuing...i don't think that everyone is calling for his head but instead just asking him to SHUT UP!

How's the NFLPA thing hurt the team? It's between him and the NFLPA not the Redskins...
Now the 6.5 million could be debatable but he's already made this statement:
"The more I think about it, and the more I just look around, I really don't want to be anywhere else," Arrington told reporters after practice. "I really love the fans. For $6.5 million, it's not worth my relationship with the fans. I don't want that to be the legacy that I leave behind. I really want to reconcile whatever differences there are."
So this doesn't look like it will be an issue when training camp starts....
Yes he and his agent screwed up.... but to me, and it seems like i'm one of the only ones, he's still a what Joe likes to call, "A Redskin", and i think he should be treated like one.

simple. its not the image we need "mr redskin" to have. you ever heard the saying lead by example? whats next, every guy that signs a deal with us will be shortchanged or have something they "didn't know about" in the contract?

so that's why the grievance he filed still stands? so your telling me that he dosen't want this to be the legacy he leaves behind, but he now adds more fuel to a fire he started? do you think the fans aren't going to remember this as well?

Are you saying this couldn't have happened? That it can't be that he didn't properly read the contract, because he thought that he heard by other that it was higher than what it really was? Accidents do happen.... ever payed for something that wasn't in the grocery bag? But you signed the credit card receipt....

He's gonna let the greviance stand because he would like that 6.5 million... but if he doesn't get it.... he will move on...... And if not being able to buy a players jersey upsets a fan of the GAME OF FOOTBALL..... then, well.... I won't comment, I don't want to upset anybody who gets that upset over something so little....

i wanted one too. i'm really having second thoughts now. i'm a redskin fan, not a fan of a particular player. i just don't think lavar is supporting the TEAM like he should.

Bring the Pain,
I appreciate you sticking up for LaVar. Look at my screen name 56.
But let's not forget as it stands today LaVar is one of the highest paid defenders (check that players) in the NFL.
So to me it is whining when you come out and say the team wronged you because "We did not have time to read the contract"
I was just about to purchase the #56 throwback jersey on the 'Skins store but I thought if LaVar doesn’t want his jersey sold then I won't buy one.

i wasn't saying anything except lavar is acting like my four year old nephew. i have paid for items that didn't make it to a grocery bag......but never have i done that while paying over 3 million dollars to a guy (or guys) to make sure all of my grocerys were in one bag. and you said he didn't read the contract? thats what i've been saying all along. how can you not read a deal thats worth close to
70 million??He's gonna let the greviance stand because he would like that 6.5 million... but if he doesn't get it.... he will move on...... he's gonna let it stand, but it dosen't mean anything?????? and like i said this isn't about shirts or cards with me. it's about how his agents obviously screwed up and are now taking lavar through the BS for it, but lavar dosen't have the smarts to realize this....

i haven't complained once about lavars jersey. i have complained about how many different occasions that he was out of position, or bites on a fake and over pursues. seems to me you are implying that "redskins fans" shouldn't be jumping on lavar for doing some really stupid stuff thats not all that good for the team.....

Never said you complained about jersey's inparticular, just was talking to those who haven't stated any other reason than they want his jersey.... atleast you want to provide arguments with some substance.
And i know he's not the greatest player around... i know he makes mistakes on the field, and i chew him out when i'm watching the game, just like you do....
But for some to cry because he doesn't want to sell his name is ridiculous, in my opinion.... being a fan does not mean, having your favorite players/ or the team leaders jersey....
I still don't feel like the NFLPA thing is hurting the team, the 6.5 maybe, but he's atleast made an attempt in the media to say that he doesn't want to let 6.5 come between him and the fans....

BTP, we can definantly agree on this. my point is if this guy really wants to be "mr redskin" he should start acting like it. this is not the way to start a longterm relationship.

Nobody is angry because he doesn't want to sell his name. The thing that's pissing people off is that he already sold his name, and now he wants to take it back. When I sign a contract, I read it, and I'm stuck with it. I'm sure it's the same with all of you. Why is it different for Lavar? This is twice that he's complained about something he signed. He needs to follow Smoot's lead by getting rid of the Postons and giving his all to the Redskins!!

Ok, this is per the washington post:
According to an NFLPA source who requested anonymity yesterday, Gene Upshaw, the NFLPA's executive director, is trying to reach a settlement despite Upshaw's belief that Arrington legally granted his marketing rights to the group. The NFLPA said Arrington did so on Dec. 26 when he signed an extension with the Redskins by not crossing out a standard clause in his contract -- section 4b, which gives merchandising rights to Players Inc. (Players Inc. is the licensing and marketing arm of the NFLPA.)
However, Arrington questions the legality of the clause and believes it is superseded by a separate agreement with the NFLPA that the linebacker hasn't yet signed. According to sources familiar with the situation, Upshaw previously had tried to persuade Arrington to sign the agreement.
So the jist of the article is Arrington never signed a SEPERATE contract with the NFLPA turning over his merchindising rights... In his mind he never said yes to that...
Upshaw THINKS it was legal because he didn't cross off section 4b, but is willing to cut a deal....
Who's right???? Neither you or I know..... for I haven't and i'm guessing you have not dealt with an NFL contract before....
So what side should we take???? Well to me... it seems alot of posters on this thread have already jump on the NFLPA bandwagon..... for what reason??? There's no proof yet who's right or wrong......
the only reason i can see these posters getting angry with him is for no other reason than they want to buy his jersey or play him in a video game.....
Or maybe they are upset about the 6.5 million thing, which is easy to understand since none of us probably make a million a year and we feel everyone who makes more than us should be greatfull for what they get.....But again, were not in Lavar's shoes and we've never handled an NFL contract before... so I don't know how most of us can say who's right or wrong....
So if we can't say who's right or wrong.... why are we jumping on the guys case, when he's done nothing but shed blood sweat and tears for a SH........ poopy team for the past 4 years.... and STILL WANTS TO BE HERE....
That's my point......

This can't be the same signed contract thats missing 6.5 million ..... LaVar pay me 1.5 million (half what Poston gets) and the things that should be in the contract WILL be and the things that you don't agree with WON'T.... and you can READ IT BEFORE you SIGN it
