For all the talk about "perception", and "locker room dynamics", I think the greatest obstacle to a Briles appointment would be the Spurrier experience. College head coach with supposedly revolutionary concepts wants to try the big league? Hmmmm.
However, if Snyder is truly letting Allen run the show, then the Spurrier experience simply shouldn't have any impact. If Bruce thinks Briles is the right man, then he should be our choice.
Over the last two weeks, I've read more debate about Briles than all the other speculated candidates combined.

If the guys making the choice are the football guys, we do not have a worry - no college coach would be able to manage and cope with all that is going on here
this job calls for a 'manager' and that guy has to be an NFL guy not a rah rah guy

Funny how Mike tipped his hat towards the media.

Dear god, Danny Smith?!
This is the fun part - everybody is a candidate, lol.
Having heard how much Shanahan undermined Haslett... one has to wonder how much he tinkered with ST, as well...
Though, I have to admit... that name makes me throw up in my mouth, just a little...
I was shocked when I read that article about Shanny meddling. Almost sounded like Shanny was Snyder 2.0. That's a scary thought!
Now watch Haz run off to another team and build a top 5 defense

Would be just the irony we've come to know of this organization.

HC's are no longer the play callers - they mostly let their assistants do that and are there to make sure their assistant coaches do the job in the manner he wants them to
I do not think a college coach can do that and also 'deal' with the owner we have
Dan Snyder is a part of the problem here and a HC has to make sure that he has the 'control' of his players despite what Dan is going to try and do did I mention that there is NO WAY a college coach can handle this job ...

Bruce was asked questions on this. He didn't think Dan was a problem. You always had a great belief in the FO. Where is it now? Maybe Dan hasn't been a problem the last 4 years like some say. In your defense. Doc seems to think Dan shares the responsibility too. It just may be a case where he wasn't the monster some people think he is.
Dan Snyder is STILL a part of the problem here - he created the mess and he's still meddling ... I will say,
maybe he's not as bad as he was
I said before that Dan Snyder could come out of this well by letting the FO and the football guys make the choices here and I think he's going to give that a try ..
this could be better than we thought - our worst fears were that Snyder would fire Mike, then bring in a new HC - it looks like he's going to stay away ... for now
there's no way that the NFL guys are bringing in a college HC
We need an NFL guy to manage things and some really good assistant coaches who are the real force in the NFL now
in the NFL today, the guys making the machine work are the assistants

I think that there is something to say that Allen is still around and Snyder didn't wipe out the whole FO.
Sounds like Shannahan had more controll then Allen did and synder realizes that and gave full control to Allen after Shannahans departure .

Shaw just said he was going to stay in college next year. Don't blame him when you can lose your job after 1 year in the NFL

I honestly don't know why any of those guys choose to leave college for the NFL. Spurrier leaving Florida to come here, for example. Completely boggles my mind.

I think Detroit is a much better head coach job than the Skins job because the Fords are much easier to work for than Snyder and they won't intervene and mess things up with "bold genius" trades, Detroit has more talent on their roster than the Skins and even modest success would be well received in Detroit. The media coverage would also be less intense in Detroit since the Lions really share the spotlight with other teams with very devoted fans. The Pistons, Tigers and Redwings all are much more established than their DC counterparts. Even the bigger college programs in Michigan help to reduce the intensity of focus on the Lions. The University of Michigan and Michigan State athletic programs dwarf the DC area college programs. would be better also The only positive I think the Skins have over Detroit is free agents would probably rather move to DC than Detroit.

CSN narrows it down, similar to what ESPN was saying.
That is still just a bunch of speculation by a reporter justifying a byline. Until there is attribution, it's junk.

I'm nervously optimistic that we're going to get away with this ... I was worried that Snyder might want to get back into things ...
I am glad that Mike is gone but I'm actually optimistic that Bruce Allen and the guys in the FO here can pull this together and continue to make remake this franchise
we do have some very good players to build around and we are very solid as far as the cap and the salary situation is concerned
GO BRUCE GO - bring it home

So, Darrell Bevell and Sean McDermott "confirmed" so far. Interesting to see that they're considering the possibility of a defensive head coach.

If I were a control freak like how Snyder...at least was, I'd be all in the press conferences defending my name. I think the fact that he's absent is evidence that he's taken a more hands off approach.
What get under my skin now is these commentators, etc. who were once talking about how Snyder was meddling too much are now changing their stories to "well you know, Shanahan was meddling too much and Snyder should have stepped in."
How some of these writers still have jobs is beyond me...

like some of us have been saying for a while now - most of the BS that was 'reported' at the end of the season was just that
I even started to think and worry that Dan might have been a part of the problem here ...
we now see that Snyder has indeed let things go to a certain extent and the way he's letting the football guys do their thing is clear evidence that he was not interfering or meddling as so many of these reports were trying to intimate
Mike did not get it done but it was not due to anything that Snyder did or did not do ...
I just love it that all the doom and gloom guys are having it handed to them ...
onward and upward - thanks Mike, we owe you a lot but it's time to move on

Actually it sounded to me like Bruce was pointing his finger at Mike for leaks and such.
Who are they?

I have no clue how that would work out, but I bet he couldn't do any worse than Mike. You have to go way back to the early 60s to find a worse Redskins team.
