We gave up swap of 1st rounders, a 2nd rounder a 1st rounder in the next season, and a first rounder in 2014.

So broken down, this years 1st round draft picks were a wash, next years 1st rounders were a wash, the 1st in 2014 is like a 3rd this year, so those cancel out. So it comes down to this years 2nd to this years 3rd and 5th. Someone break out the value chart, but the totals between those have got to be fairly close right?

Throw the trade chart out the window with the new CBA. Also, how is our # 1 in 2014 like a 3rd rounder???

because its a 1st rounder 3 years from now. Its like money, you have to discount for present value. $10 promised to you in 3 years is not worth $10 to you today. Conversely, $10 in hand today will be worth more, given x rate of interest, in 3 years. So, the value of a #1 drops or rises depending on what year its good in. OUr first this year is worth much more to the rams then the one we're giving them in 2014.

This was the dumbest move the Redskins have made in the 30 years I have been a fan. It is stupid to trade so much for one guy -- a guy who might not be as good as everyone hopes, a guy who might get injured on opening day.

So much for patience and sticking with a long term strategy.

In addition to all the other pressure our new pick would have faced, he will now have the additional pressure of knowing that we traded so much for him.

He better not make any mistakes!

Yikes. Woe is me.

You mean so much for building through number 1 picks only? You realize we still have 7 pics this year, 7 next year and 6 right now in 2014(1niksder can confirm if I'm off), right? And you realize we traded picks to move up in the draft to . . . DRAFT A PLAYER? The NFL is pressure, once the volume's been set to 10, there's no 11 to go to. Coming here, the kid had a pressure rating of 10, this changes nothing. Plan hasn't changed, we're still building through draft, but thanks for the doomsday scenario response.

You know, Hog Man - this is the best part. Every FA in the league knows we are going to have a stud at QB while he drinks his coffee this morning.

What a way to start spring break!

Anyone seen The Poster? How about Bizzy B?

That is the word that they will be using in five years when they look back on this deal.

While the Rams can use their newly acquired treasure trove of first round picks to draft positions of need and build a much more competitive team...

All the Redskins will have to show for this trade are years where they go 4-12, 6-10, 3-13 and 5-11 and routinely get realistically eliminated from playoff contention by Halloween. And no first round stud picks of their own to choose from, barring any future trades to acquire them.

RG3 is a great athlete. No question about it. He can run really fast, he's ridiculously agile and he won a Heisman Trophy.

Some guys who are not as fast and agile as RG3 are and who did NOT win the Heisman Trophy are: Joe Montana, Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Aikman, Tom Brady and BOTH Manning brothers.

(And before you go there, that's not racial commentary. It's simply the matter of fact.)

So to review...

The Rams are being given a golden opportunity to draft their way back into contention in their division from the ground up and for the long haul, and maybe even be a playoff team before very long. And with Jeff Fisher as their coach now, those chances are probably even better.

And in exchange, the Redskins are going to get a quarterback who can run really fast and who won some games in college.

And so, once again, we see that the people in charge of our favorite team opt for eye-candy and making a big splash instead of good old fashioned common sense.

Drafts are always a gamble, yes. High picks sometimes go bust. Low picks sometimes have long, productive careers. Nothing is certain and there's a large amount of luck necessary for things to work out well.

But the Redskins are taking a foolish risk on this one by gambling with so many assets, and they can expect a LOT of second-guessing when this trade doesn't work out for them.

And it won't. Watch.

RG3 is an amazingly gifted athlete.

The Redskins don't need an athlete.

They need a quarterback. Desperately.

I guess it's the same here, London is full of bloody Manchester United fans.

They are the worst kind too... breathing ones!!!

London has 12 professional football clubs and yet these muppets choose to support Manchester United or Liverpool.

If we can't get VJax, Bring in T.O. for a workout. At his age, and being out of football for a year, he knows he can't bring any drama with him.

Put him on a basic deal with no bonus. Pay for play. If he acts up--cut. I don't think he's in position to do anything but play.

Insert disagreement below! LOL

If we don't get Jackson there are still far better options than TO...Colston and Wayne (if he doesn't follow Manning).

Wayne is likely going where Peyton goes. If not, he's a good option. The Miami connection with Moss would be nice. But both he can Colston will be far more expensive. Since we've given away a lot in draft picks, we're going to have to be value conscious in FA. I'd give him a look. Hankerson could learn a great deal from him, and with RG3's ability to extend plays, T.O. could be a good scoring threat getting open. Plus, I just want to see him pose on the star in Dallas as we beat the Cowboys. Just more to laugh at.

... an even bolder predition is made. We could have those records with Rex. Is RGIII that bad? Really?

Fast, agile eye candy - if only he could think and throw.

Reasonable.

It is a risk. It may or may not be foolish. Looks like the 2nd guessing has already started.

Judge wrote:And it won't. Watch.

You can bet we'll all watch. I noticed you called the Redskins "them" not "us." Is this a principle of yours or are you a fan of another team?

Judge wrote:RG3 is an amazingly gifted athlete.

Yes.

Judge wrote:The Redskins don't need an athlete.

We need many.

Judge wrote:They need a quarterback. Desperately.

I think we just got one. He looks as good as any QB who's come out in a few decades plus he can do all the stuff you say. You make it sound like he's fast and agile and that's it. That's just wrong. The rest is conjecture and you may be right. You imply he's no better or even worse than Rex. Not buying that at all.

Going to any games?

Dude, you are way off base. This is different, RGIII is the real deal and we will not regret this trade.

Basically, in 5 years the Rams will be kicking themselves for having a shot at Griffin and not taking it.

Like CLL said in another thread, ask Giants fans if they care about the picks they lost when they got Manning.

Wow! RGIII is going to be awesome, I hope he's our QB for many years. Finally a franchise QB! At first I thought we gave to many first rounds, but if he's as good as we think he is, it will be worth it. Time will tell.

I heard that the redskins organization likes Vicent Jackson, if not him I say Coulston.

Hint: Washington was not on P Manning's intinerary. Maybe he already knew something. Anyway, now that the die is cast, let the RGIII era began and hope for the best. Only time will tell if this was the right move. The guy seems to have the tools to make this work. Now the Skins just need to go out and get him some support and protection. If it works, no one will care about the picks we gave up. Don't forget, Bruce Allen is George Allen's son. That apple didn't fall far from that tree.
