Certainly a great read! If this guy's lfe was a movie and I watched it, I would have thought he was a fictional character. That is amazing that someone can do the things he accomplished and is still accomplishing. I suspect his work ethic has rubbed off on a lot of Nebraska players. After reading this article, I am expecting more out of our draftees from Nebraska.

we are rebuilding and while they did add Brown - I think they thought they could use him for long enough to replace most of that O line

Reasons why our front offense would take on an aging player like Kris Jenkins?

One is purely for stop gap purposes.

If you don't like what you see out there on the NT market, then you might go to a stop gap measure. Sign an old guy like Jenkins to a one year deal at a low cost with incentives. He would not be a full time player, but you sign him to maximize his skill set which is what the guys out on the market don't have - pass rushing. He would be part of an NT by committee. Perhaps we are looking someone for the long run who is still in college.

Remember this rumors were were were interested in Kris and that we did not have Franklin as a priority, so my opinion is not baseless. This are all posted earlier in this thread. Rumors are schwumors but that is all we have to go by.

One thing I think this FO is not going to do is return to the days of outbidding everyone just to get a need and paying a guy way over what he is worth. Remember, it appears that we are following the Pats, Steelers and Colts model, they don't do that that. They only pay legitimate stars the big bucks and those are home grown.

don't get me wrong - I don't have an issue with stop gap players either

I just think that these guys are really looking for a little more than they were a year ago - I think that as the season went along they saw the mistakes and realized the direction we need to go

I'm encouraged that we are on a youth movement and also that we are doing much better in not just bringing in a player that has great upside but more the player that looks like he will fit in better and for a longer term


I will agree that we might need to add some experienced (and older) 3-4 players to aid in the transition but even then I have a lot more faith in the process this FO is leading us through than the last

towards the end of last season we saw some good things and I think that with the players that we have brought in since PLUS the free agents we will most likely add, that we are surely in for another season that clearly indicates this franchise is indeed heading back to being a consistent playoff contender

According to the St. Petersburg Times, re-signing Joseph is the team’s top priority. An underachiever to this point in his career, the former 23rd pick in the draft is expected to be a better fit for new offensive line coach Pat Morris’ power-based system after struggling in old assistant Pete Mangurian’s zone-blocking scheme.

If this is true, then Shanny is not looking his way.

OL - Ryan Harris - Broncos

RB - commit to new youth - Royster & Helu, I like Torrain a lot but look for a good trade

QB - go with Beck, cut McNabb - hold nose and resign Grossman

WR - re-sign Moss and keep in slot, go after Rice from Vikings, throw Hankerson in there from day one

CB - stay away from Asomugha, he's awesome but will cost too much, try to re-sign Rodgers for reasonable $, otherwise go after Josh Wilson

In all close calls go with youth. Don't worry too much about our record this year.



Talk to Kyle about going long so often late in halves when a first down is crucial.

QB - young, low cost, journeyman vet, who Kyle thinks might be a fit for his offense.

DE - Cullen Jenkins - good in both 3-4 and 4-3. Can play in all our D schemes

NT- Kris Jenkins (Brother of Cullen - hopefully a two for one deal ) - Best pass rush NT available - play primarily on pass downs. Franklin made $7 million last year. Love to have him but costs too much for a guy who is only a two down NT. Bryant should fill run stuffer bill at a much lower cost.

WR- Nobody
RB - Nobody
C- Nobody - Montgomery should be our center

G- Carl Nicks and Harvey Dahl

T- Ryan Harris if Brown does not re-sign

LB - Stephen Tulloch (26 years old)- move from MLB to ILB - Very high grades against run and pass. Future leader of the D when Fletcher retires.

CB - Make a play for Asomugha - drive up the cost and bail. Brent Grimes. He can catch the ball and cover.

With Kris Jenkins retiring:

I make two changes:

NT - Ian Williams and Blaine Sumner (Undrafted free agents)
Kelly Gregg (Ravens probably will release him)
Let Maake, Bryant and all of them compete for the NT spots.

If we were on the verge of winning, I would say Aubrayo Franklin but at $7 million last year and him being the only viable NT out there. Bidding for him will be too costly. Compare to Casey Hampton's contract:

Without the supposed discount for Cullen and his brother, go with younger and less expensive guy with a strong upside. (Jenkins made$3.2 million last year). Dallas will put up a fight to keep Bowen, but they are over the cap.

Frankly, I'm all for Danny spending his money and Allan creatively structuring the payments. How else can either of those guys help us?

Anyone see NFL films tonight on the 98 Denver Broncos? All the players were quoted throughout how Shannahan was such a great coach. How he took a bunch of no name players, cast offs, undrafted players, unwanted free agents, and made them all feel hand picked. THAT's what made them WANT to win. He make's players think and play better than they really are.

Sound Familiar? I feel like this team is a bunch of no-namers, and I for one really dig it. Kind of like the Hogs.

If anyone is interested in HOW Shanny has built other championship teams out of hard working, blue collar nobodies, watch that video. This thing will be fully built by next year in my opinion.
