PERIOD.
WHY IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
Maybe because it requires him to admit they were wrong. Blaming Donovan 4 different ways allows the coaches to remain "geniuses" even if only in their own heads.
I wouldn't have had a problem with the benching at halftime, but @ 2 mins left in a winnable game. It's the timing in conjunction with the excuses that irritate me. And then the inconistancy the following day to boot.

Exactly. The timing was the blower. And, the result was even more disasterous. But, what really sticks in the craw is Tanahan's gutless, lying behavior afterwards. He's seriously a self-absorbed ego maniac if he believes he's so much smarter than everyone else that we would go for his excuses.

The link might sway some opinions that MS is just a liar that's trying to cover up a bad choice. I think the media is making this out to be worse than it really is but, then again whats new?
I disagree. The post game presser and this one greatly contradict. And some of the 'reasons' are shady at best. Donovan can scramble for 35 yards, take a beating all day, and all of the sudden he isn't good enough? Not fit enough? Not familiar enough? I call BS STILL...
I wouldn't know what was going through M.S's head during the time he made the decision, or during either of the pressers, and I'm not saying I agree with the decision, but some of these posts are just crazy.
I'm thinking that Shanny had lots of reasons at the time to do what he did; whether he wants to cover that up to the media or not is fine by me. I don't think he is just out there telling blatant lies to make himself (or his son) look good, like some are suggesting.
It would be nice to see some fans stand behind their coach even if they thought he was making a mistake. We called for football people, we called for a new coach, and now halfway through the season (at 4-4) fans are whining because the coach made a bad choice in a game where the whole team (with the exception of a few) was absolutely miserable.

Teeter are you serious buddy???
Look @ it like this bro:
Playing time vs Detroit- Mcnugget, not rex
Who's played more games in THIS SYSTEM- Mcnugget, not rex
You know I back our coaches, to a dag gone fault at that but now with the whole fit thing, I really wonder what the heck Zornahan considers "FIT"??? If you look @ Mcnugget this year compared to last year, the guy lost big lbs and is moving like he's young again. How in the flippin world did he become unfit? Oh, maybe after he ran all dag gone day vs detroit? Really makes me wonder about the whole Haynesworth beef now that Shanahazorn is tripping on Mcnugget.
Sorry bro, but in this particular case, Shanazornahan FAILED!.. and I'm ticked off because of it.
I back the call. If only to make Dmac think about how HE the leader waisted the lead on an int and negated BBs returnAnd the good job by D. With time running down a vet qb cannot make stupid mistakes like that.. Throw it out throw it in the dirt hell 3 and out and give the D a chance.
Dmac cost us the game and got to think about it on the bench. I wanted to punch him in his face but a benching is much more appropriate. BB and our D gave us a pretty good chance Dmac was beaten up but this is not new and could have done a lot better in my eyes.

For real Pete? Even though Mcnugget's arm was hit as he was throwing because of that crap we call an offensive line? I know its just a guess on your part but you threw in the idiotic triple coverage part so you must feel that way. Don't forget Pete that Mcnugget has been throwing the ball on that SAME PASS PLAY every game this season and that's the first time that route's been intercepted.

Are you serious???? Bro, the coaches called that stupid play instead of using two 250lb RBs to milk the clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smith was right in front of Armstrong, and had help, so I don't see how that play would have worked even if McRib wasn't pressured. Just have the crappy youtube replay right now, but it didn't look like a smart decision. A short pass to the left looked like a better option (can't read the number on youtube) and might have been enough for a first down.
I've said repeatedly that the O line has a major part in this desaster, but as a veteran pro bowl / HoF bound QB, you need to make smarter decisions.
Bob 0119 wrote:Is this what we get for having a "real NFL head coach and GM"?
No, that side of it has shown it's positives. This is a personality trait of Mike as an individual. There's never anything wrong with having a "real" coach and GM. Now do we have the right HC? I hope so, hopefully he'll learn and grow from this too.
I agree - we are better off with these 2, but .... Mike made a terrible decision to put Rex in (at least I presume he made the call) and he's handled the explanation(s) about as badly as he can
hopefully he can keep the team together and hopefully this past 2 days gets "fixed" or starightened out as quickly as possible
this is a mess but we are better of with "real" guys running this franchise
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

People who were never fans of McNabb will look for every reason to blame him and not the reality of the situation. The line is terrible. Mr. "Smart Enough to Know the Terminology & Cardiovascularly Fit Enough to Jog to the Huddle" Grossman, gave up a sack-fumble for a TD. And STILL people are blaming McNabb.

Unbelievable.
I've had no problem with McNabb. I had high hopes when he was signed, since it promised a marked improvement over what we had. I'm not a fan of anybody just because he signs on the dotted line, but I didn't hate on him, either.
I read the article and it means jack spit. I can TOTALLY understand taking him out because of performance but with 2 minutes to go in the game you just can't take out the guy who's been playing all game. That's putting HUGE pressure on grossman to succeed with an OLine that couldn't block New Hampshire Estates Elementary School students yet alone Detroits monster DLine.

Oh, I agree with you but I think this is a far better explanation than we were getting. If it is true or not it makes more sense about being out of shape. I thought what they did to Rex was terrible.
Ex-coaches shouldn't be allowed to coach again. Something happens to them either when they leave the game, or while they're retired. This Shanny/McDrabb deal makes Shanny look like he's completely off his rocker. Gibbs never looked/acted quite right after he returned to coaching either.

I think Gibbs did wonders for us. He got a us taste of playoffs 2 out of 4 years?

I am glad he fixed and taught Dan a few things.
Gibbs' decision making process didn't appear to be working properly. His clock management was atrocious, and he always shut the offense down and placed them in the "prevent" mode once the Skins had even the slightest lead. During his first coaching stint you'd never see him do that.

True but he did straighten out the office, gave us a real defensive coordinator and respectability.
Interesting comments by Tim Hasselbeck now. Says that he can see how Shanahan would be frustrated with McNabb's tempo in practice. Said that during his time with the Eagles the Philly staff constantly tried to get McNabb to practice at a higher tempo. He disagreed with the decision to pull him at that time in the game but I thought that his comments about McNabb's performance in practice was interesting.
You know whose opinion on the McNabb benching we still hadn't heard? Vinny Cerrato. "I can't figure that one out," he told Baltimore's 105.7 The Fan. "I mean, Rex Grossman's never won anything, and Donovan's been to championship games. Many a time I've been on opposite sidelines and he's come back and beat us. And the thing about it is, I think Mike's a great coach, he's a good friend of mine, but I just don't agree with that decision. Because basically, the two-minute drill, you're going out there, you're playing like you're playing in the street.
"The quarterback's making calls, he's calling his own plays. The two-minute drill, usually the quarterback handles it, plus Donovan can run, and he's used to the rush that was coming and the pressure. That one dumbfounded me when I was watching the game. I thought Donovan was hurt, and then when they said he wasn't hurt and they brought in Rex Grossman, I thought c'mon. They had a chance to win the game with 1:40 to go. If they get a touchdown, it's right there."
If Vinny thought benching McNabb was wrong, it must have been right !
Sexy Rexy is the man, if he can't beat us noone can !

Trust me, it was a good throw, right on the money, and his arm was tipped after the ball went out so that he couldn't follow through on the ball, but with three defensemen around the receiver, it ended up being a VERY poor decision.
