Shanahan's a push over. He not only over-estimates players he falls in love with, he also rescues guys like Larry Johnson. I wish you guys would stop dreaming up wonderful things to believe about Shanahan. It make me want to hurl. If I had to have heroes I'd go on down to the local high school and hang out with teachers.

I don't blame you for thinking that Crazyhorse. The difference might be Shanahan jr.

Over the hill or not Portis and Johnson will be fine, I am not certian if either one will commit what it takes to show us if their careers are are coming to an end. Now the question remains what will be done about it??? Shanahan clearly has the talent in the back field, no question...

I have to agree with this. Both of them have talent and having both aboard to spell each other could keep both strong. Inspite of character issues, this is the best off-season move Shanahan has made. In fact, it's time he and Allen did something of significance.

Screw it, it's so important to have flawless character on the team that we should draft the entire Harvard Football squad. No on will laugh at the Redskins in the NFC East.

We all knew the criticism would start immediately. God himself couldn't get a 60% approval rating in this city.

So the only options you know are 1) draft all Harvard players 2) sign players like LJ ???

(who ever said Harvard players would all be of good character anyway?)

I think it is obvious that everything will be fine IF LJ keeps his nose clean and plays hard. Hell, my bills will be fine too if someone drops a few hundred thousand in cash on my door step. It's all good

I like to LIKE the players I intend to root for. Call me silly or nostalgic. When the Skins score a TD, I like to think they are good guys, playing together with heart. Right now, knowing what I do about LJ, it'll be hard to root for him. I don't expect the Skins players to flawless. Just not woman beaters who have screwed up 5-6 times in that many NFL years. We can all hope he turns his life around this time.

Clearly, you missed the sarcasm about the Harvard guys

Let's keep things in persepctive. In his 2009 campaign, he averaged 3.26 ypc. Don't cherry pick for an agenda.

CIN – 46/204/4.4
KC – 132/377/2.9
Tot – 178/581/3.264

He's production has deteriorated since his back to back 1700+ yd seasons. And he also hasn't played in a full season since. He's broke down, bad character, and I despise this pick up. I don't care if he paid Danny to play on the skins.

I hope he gets cut in camp.

You are right on the money. Character issues, no gas left in the tank, poor teammate, disrespectful to coaches...

If you want to blame the offensive line for his YPC, then compare the numbers from Jamaal Charles who ran bbehind the same line last year.

Larry Johnson with KC (2009):
132-377 yds. - 2.85 YPC

Jamaal Charles, running behind same KC line in 2009:
190-1120 yds. - 5.9 YPC

So, Shanny, are you happy to have a RB who, by his own admission, will only respect and do his best for an African American HC?

Just to put things in perspective, LJ had his best seasons when running behind a O-line that featured these gentlemen:

Casey Wiegmann (center)
Brian Waters (guard)
Will Shields (guard)
Willie Roaf (tackle)

I'm no KC football expert. I just got the names of google by typing "KC Oline" and found this

Like most of you guys, I'm not sold on this signing. I'm not on Portis either.

Coincidentally, there were reports of the Skins bringing in Wiegmann for his expertise in the zone blocking scheme. He would be awesome to have as a backup Center/Guard.

He's also assaulted and spit on more women than CP over the same time frame. He's also been arrested more times, offended more fans, been suspended by his team and the NFL more times, and been released more often than CP. You can certainly question some of the football-related things that CP has done, but unlike LJ, CP isn't a racist, anti-social criminal that abuses women.

I'm not trying to defend anything the guy has done, nor will a make some foolish statement about it being in the past. I just saying there is not going to be a drop off if he goes in to spell CP.

LJ is a pretty good football player, I never said he was a man or that I liked him. He's a Redskins player now. Regardless of what he has done in the past, Redskins fans won't tolerate any pf it in Washington. But the guy hasn't been involed in any of that for a couple of years. I'm willing to bet if he does make the team, the first sign of his past returning, will have him looking for work shortly afterwards.

Wasn't he cut LAST YEAR for the final straw being the racial slurs?

Here a quick rehash...

On November 9, 2009 ESPN wrote:In 2008, then-coach Herm Edwards benched him for three straight games for violating team rules and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him a fourth game for violating the league's player conduct policy.

Johnson was later sentenced to two years' probation after pleading guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace. One woman accused him of throwing a drink on her and another said he had pushed her head at a Kansas City night spot.

In April 2008, a special master ruled that in pleading guilty to disturbing the peace, Johnson had violated terms of his contract and the Chiefs could release him without having to pay about $3.5 million. In what now must be viewed as a huge mistake, they opted to keep him on the roster.

Getting benched for three games and suspended by the league for one cost him big. Then he lost another $315,000 for the gay slurs and tweeting. Last week, an online fan petition was started asking the Chiefs not to let Johnson become the team's all-time leading rusher.

Haley declined to say if Johnson's low production had any bearing on his release or whether the Chiefs' biggest concern were the slurs and the public criticism of his coach.

"It wouldn't be fair of me to try to comment on that in any way other than to say the totality of the situation was factored in -- what we felt was best for the Kansas City Chiefs," Haley said.

A month earlier ESPN wrote:The tweets were posted to the "Toonicon" account, an online alias the Star reported Johnson has said is his. The account includes a link to Johnson's personal Web site. Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said the team could not verify that is Johnson's account.

The Twitter remarks were posted after San Diego routed the Chiefs (37-7).

One tweet read: "My father got more creditentials than most of these pro coaches." That was followed by: "My father played for the coach from "rememeber the titans". Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn."

Johnson's agent, Peter Schaffer, said, "I talked to Larry about it and he was focusing more on pumping up his father than anything else. He wasn't trying to downgrade anyone ... yes, everyone is frustrated after a loss like this but I wouldn't put too much into it."

The tweets drew responses, including one that referred to a nightclub incident in which Johnson was accused of spitting in someone's face.

Johnson's response included a three-letter gay slur. The final post read: "Make me regret it. Lmao. U don't stop my checks. Lmao. So 'tweet' away."

Johnson's account since has been made private.

Johnson then was sentenced to two years' probation after pleading guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace. One woman accused him of throwing a drink on her and another said he had pushed her head at a Kansas City night spot.

A judge earlier this year suspended the sentence and said he would remove the guilty plea from the public record if Johnson finished the probation period without further incidents.

Today Rick Maese of WaPo wrote:"He will take over the running back position," said Vermeil, who coached Johnson in Kansas City from 2003 to '05. "That's what I think. He'll push that guy right out of a job. Larry Johnson will work all week -- he'll work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday -- and he'll make you start him on Sundays."

edit:

Here's the Actual twits (or whatever they are called) and comments

Johnson, sitting next to second-year running back Jamaal Charles, told reporters that “I’m not talking till Thursday,” his usual day of speaking with reporters.
In the wake of the Chiefs’ 37-7 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, Johnson tweeted about Haley’s lack of football-playing experience from a Twitter account that appears to be his.

Then Johnson turned away and whispered.

“Get your f***** ass out of here,” he said.

“My father got more creditentials than most of these pro coaches,” Johnson said. It was followed with, “My father played for the coach from “rememeber the titans”. Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn.”

Johnson continued the rant, and, in later responses directed toward Johnsons Twitter followers, contained inflammatory remarks about gays. In a reference to someones profile picture, Johnson called it a “f** pic” and called the person a “Christopher street boy,” a reference to a predominantly homosexual section in New York’s Greenwich Village. Johnson’s Twitter profile was taken private and some posts were deleted.

Not making excuses for this guy but they had just been BEATDOWN 37-7 when the reporter stuck the recorder in LJ's face. It wasn't as bad as Ryan Leaf blowing up after a game, then again Ryan left it in the locker room Larry continued for at least another day (no telling what he wrote once his account was made private

Not sure if this was reported but i love the signing even more

Larry Johnson's base salaries total just $3.3 million over the next three seasons.

Johnson is scheduled to earn base salaries of just $800,000 in 2010 and $1 million in 2011, with much of his money likely to be tied up in game or roster bonuses plus incentives. If he flames out in training camp and preseason action, there's nothing to keep the Redskins from dumping him.
