Yep, Flacco is a massive improvement over Campbell.
LMAO, Flacco was a ROOKIE!!!!

That makes your point that much more funny. Oh, Jason is just as good as a rookie QB who only had one WR the entire year. LMAO Let's celebrate!
Jason in his 20th year in the league was as good as a rookie, you showed them!!
Flacco is more decisive, has a quicker release and makes quicker decisions than Jason. It's the truth, maybe Jason will improve but it was apparent last night.
I wasn't saying Campbell is the next Marino, just that Flacco hasn't exactly set the world on fire. He had a good rookie season. Let's see him do it for more than one season before we crown him. A good number of QB's take a step back in their second seasons because defenses get game tape and force them to do the things they don't do well. Campbell has at least avoided that trap and improved every year. QB is not the biggest area of concern on this team by a large margin.

I'm thrilled about the potential of Jerem Jarmon. He was a major bright spot. We knew what we were getting with Orakpo. Jarmon was a gamble. And I think it's going to pay HUGE dividends.

Gibbs knew what the pre-season was for, unlike many around here.

Doc Walker is literally going off right now about how Gibbs ran tough training camps and in his opinion Zorn is running a soft camp that is leading to the players playing soft and without intensity. He says he's tired of excuses...youth, injuries, etc. He said the team is "breading an environment of complacency." I haven't heard him this fired up in a long time.

He had punts returns (in this order)
12 yards

11 yards
10 yards
7 yards
12 yards
21 yards
0 (from the Balt 48 - nice punt insidee the 20)

Those type of punts put PR in the prowl bowl! I am going to find the hang time, but I bet it was bad. Most of his kicks were line drives that covered a lot of ground very fast. leavin the first cover guy 20 yards from the returner when he got the ball!
He is going to have to improve his punting or he will end up getting cut or it will cost us several games.

I just watched the first series, and we didn't look bad at all. There is no way the returner got 12 yards on that first punt. I would say 6, 7 tops.

The punts as skinsfan33 lists them (with Deadskins correction) leaves us with a 7.5 yd return average against us. Or, put another way, about what ARE averaged
for us last year (6.5 yd).
I'm not worried. Of all the random things to pick on from last night. . .

Zorn: Redskins soft
By: John Keim
Examiner Staff Writer
08/14/09 1:34 PM EDT
Redskins coach Jim Zorn used the one word football players hate most. Soft. But that’s the label he stuck on a lot of his young players after Thursday’s 23-0 preseason opening loss to Baltimore.
‘’We have guys that need to improve,’’ Zorn said Friday. ‘’Some of it was age, the young guys getting a feel for the NFL and you could see hesitation. You could see us playing soft. …We were soft in other areas, both offensively and defensively, with that intensity.’’
Zorn was particularly unhappy with the pass protection of the second offensive line, which prevented the offense from generating much of anything, evidenced by the 196 total yards. The second defense wasn’t much better as a unit as the Redskins allowed 500 yards overall.
‘’Things deteriorated with the second group,’’ a rather downbeat Zorn said of the Redskins’ offensive line.
Washington’s first offense only played two series, both of which ended in punts. Quarterback Jason Campbell completed just three of six passes for 38 yards. He missed an open Marques Hagans along the left side, throwing high. However, Campbell was under pressure as well.
And the No. 1 defense played just one series, allowing a 13-play, 67-yard field goal drive. They had one bad play, albeit a 34-yard catch and run by running back Ray Rice where he raced past linebacker London Fletcher.
Zorn did not single out any of the young players, but in general was displeased. Second-year corner Justin Tryon struggled, as he did last summer, particularly in slot coverage. To play there, a corner must be physical; Tryon was not and was easily beaten on various routes vs. slot receivers.
‘’He probably got a little soft,’’ Zorn said. ‘’He learned some things from this game and he felt his way. I’m not down on him. They picked on him and I think he’ll rise up. He’s a good player.’’
Rookie corner Kevin Barnes did not fare much better, allowing a touchdown pass. The coverage by the secondary too often was, as Zorn said, soft.
‘’Our young guys finally got a chance to paly and they’re thinking it will be just like it was before and it’s not like it was before,’’ Zorn said. ‘’It is intense, it is exact and passionate and emotional. They saw that they have to pick things up and we played guys that need to improve.’’
Among other thoughts by Zorn:
BULLET On the offensive line: ‘’Our first group did a nice job picking up a really good defensive group early in the game. They blitzed us and last year we had a different time picking up the schemes. This year we were right on it early. … Jason was sharp for the limited time he was in there.’’
BULLET On the backup quarterbacks: ‘’After Jason I thought Todd really did a nice job with the tempo. He missed a couple of throws. When he sees it today he’ll be disappointed, but he ran the show. He was very good audibilizing. I didn’t want to play him a lot. Todd is pretty steady, but what I don’t know is Colt [Brennan] yet. He came in and started out very well on a roll pass and then as we went along the production wasn’t there. It wasn’t based solely on him, it was based on the group. The group wasn’t consistent. Colt wasn’t consistent in some things he did either.’’
BULLET Injuries. Zorn said defensive tackle/end Lorenzo Alexander pulled his oblique muscle on his right side. He’s probably suffering the worst, but it doesn’t appear that he’ll miss any time. Right tackle Mike Williams still has an abdominal strain, but he felt it on his second play of the game and did not need to come out. Zorn said the injury is not getting worse and called it a ‘’dull pain.’

It's the first pre-season game. They don't game plan. Get a clue. They're trying to evaluate rookie and backup talent and keep the starters from getting hurt. This is in no way reflective of how we will play a month from tonight. Yes there are definitely some areas that need work, but c'mon people. There were several positives tonight.
We have a really good punter. That is a great advantage in the field position battle that we haven't had in a decade.
Orakpo is a stud. When Haynesworth is also in the lineup, we are going to have a killer D.
Blades looked really strong in relief of Fletcher.
The sophomore WRs both looked strong.
If Zorn can get JC to throw the ball sooner, we are going to be just fine.
We all know what

ey and Portis are capable of.
We will be fine. Quit your worrying, you pansy wusses.
Oh where do I start. I have been watching (and playing) football for probably as long or longer than yourself. So when you tell me to "get a clue" I'd be more than happy to have a "whose is bigger" contest about
football IQ. You are the same guy that I had to TELL that I was being sarcastic, so obviously you may be the guy that needs a clue. I understand it is the preseason. I understand you don't gameplan in the preseason (unless your steve Spurrier). My point (again really having to spell it out for you), is that (with the exception of a few players, orakpo, hunter, etc..) we looked like crap. And it looked very similar to the tail end of last season, when I believe we WERE outcoached, out hustled etc.
AGAIN I KNOW it is preseason. But when you are blanked on the scoreboard REGARDLESS of preseaon, reg season, playoffs or whatever, there is a problem. When you cross midfield 3 or 4 times in a game that is a problem. Most importantly to me, is that when guys are letting multiple RB's, or WR's run through them for 10, 15, 20 gains, and guys are whiffing tackles, to me that shows lack of heart, or lack of respect for coach, i.e.. Quitting. You eternal optimists crack me up. Your so quick to jump on people like me who point out OBVIOUS problems as fair weather fans or uninformed. But in REALITY, you seem to dismiss these shortcomings as preseason issues, or whatever fits your argument at the time. Do I think the skins are going to go 2-14 this year? NO. But they sure have a lot of work to do to convince me they are going 10-6 or better. Your Avatar is quite fitting... I think you've been sipping on the LSD laced Kook Aid partner.

Maybe you should try some of that "Kook Aid." It might open up the doors of perception for you. For the entire
two series that
half of the starting O was on the field, they looked fine. And the same is true for the
one series that
half of the starting D played. Do I care that people who won't be on the team in a month performed poorly last night? Not in the least.
PS I can assure you mine is bigger.

lol, funny stuff. Ok... to be totally honest, i did NOT see the first series and only a few plays of the 2nd series. So... i cant really comment on the starters. But, i guess what im trying to say is that the skins looked soft. in every area, minus a few players. And i dont care that people who won't be on the team in a month performed poorly, i care that the person that coaches those players seems to be coaching them to be... soft. just my 2 cents.
p.s. I belive Your Ego IS bigger
pps You acutally seem like a good guy, so sorry if i was a little harsh! just differ on opinions of how the team is going i guess...

A few notes about the game:
Really impressed by Jarmon last night. (as well as Orakpo).
Not sure if you can tell anything about the defense except Tryon is absolutely terrible. He was being targeted on every throw.
I'm with everyone else in saying that you can't tell anything about an offense in a pre-season game, especially one where your playmakers aren't in the game. It would be nice to look a little organized on offense. As preparation goes, our team (carrying over from last season), never looks comfortable with what they're doing.
It was great to actually have a punter who knew what he was doing...and he got a lot of opportunities last night.

If JC barring any nagging injuries doesn't do well, then we need to start looking for our quarterback of the future and thats going to be Colt. NOT Colt Brennan but drafting Colt McCoy from Univ. of Texas he is going to be a stud in the NFL. Jim Zorn should be given at least another year unless are record is something dismal like 3-13.

Well I watch the game...I don't think Zorn can be happy with getting shutout but I do understand its a preseason game. My only thought was why only two series for JC...At this point I'm willing to risk injury to get him reps...Brady played almost the entire half vs. Philly.

I agree. Let him at least get in a rhythm. I think it may be be because not all the starters were there, so he figured, why bother?

And I think the coaches are particularly worried about how the offensive line will hold up. Fortunately, they did well—especially considering the fact that they were facing blitzes from the Ravens. We may see JC get significantly more playing time in the next game.

Brady is also coming back from a serious injury, he has indicated he'd like to play as much as possible in the pre-season. I wonder whether he'd play that much had he been healthy last year.

I think the fact that JC needs the rep with the WR's outweights everything else...even if he has to play behind our second line...they are going up against the other teams second anyway

I watched the re-airing of the game yesterday. Here are a few of my observations.
- Brian Orakpo is an absolute stud.
- Jarmon impressed me quite a bit.
- Fincher didn't play well. Near the end of the 1st quarter, he could have had a 10 yard sack, but for some reason, he let up on his pursuit of the QB. Maybe he thought he was still in camp and wasn't allowed to hit the QB. Fincher also got burned by their TE L.J. Smith.
- Rinehart played extremely well. I was pleasantly surprised and I now understand why Buges has given this kid praise this offseason.
- I really like our back-up safeties. Kareem Moore looks like a stud and Doughty seems to be moving around very well. Doughty looks like a better player now that he's healthy.
- #62, Devin Clark... absolutely got destroyed. He was over-matched in every aspect.
- Kelly is a huge target with an incredible wingspan and catching abilities. If he stays healthy, he could become a prime weapon. Same with Thomas. These two are going to do some damage.
- As always, Peyton Manning's commercials are pretty funny. Eli Manning's commercials suck and he is not funny... at all.
- Marques Hagans did not have a good game.
- I know Fred Davis' fumbles were troublesome, but I see the potential in him. He catches the ball well, runs extremely well and could be a force to reckon with... assuming he can hang onto the ball.
- Rookie FB Eddie Williams made a few nice blocks and a nice catch as well.
- Todd Collins has a weak arm. The difference in velocity between his passes verses JC's or Colt's is night and day. When Todd released the ball, it seemed like it took forever for the ball to reach the receiver. I kept waiting for a DB to step in front of it for an interception.
- I would like to see Colt play with the starters or at least the 2nd stringers.
- While he's an extreme long-shot, Antonio Dixon made the best of his opportunity with a few nice plays.
- DeAngelo Hall is going to have a great year.
I recognize there were others that played okay and others not mentioned that played poorly. But those were the things that stood out to me.
