Eactly! Getting an exact carbon copy of JC has to be one of the most retarded things ever.
If the team wants to get a good backup why not get Jeff Garcia who has shown that he can be very successful in the WCO?? That would make too much sense.
Garcia will want too much money to ride the pine.

He's not Jason's clone. He's a left handed gunslinger/wildman and, if not well prepared for, can blow people out of the water. He's not an NFL star because of disposition and injury, not talent. Not only is he not as slow to throw as Jason, he doesn't sit back there and wait to be flattened like Campbell. If you want to compare him to someone, compare him to Brennen, or to Theismann (when he was young and nuts).
I like the guy. He plays like a man and talks back to authority. I want him on the team, if only to kick Campbell's butt and occasionally tell Danny what to do with his bucks.
I understand management told him he would be here only as backup and emphasized the point. No wonder our record sucks-- that was dumb, dumb, dumb, and will probably destroy any deal. It looks like yet another good year for trashing the FO. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the Skins turning over millions to Jason Taylor and then playing him injured in the wrong position, where he couldn't succeed, and then made up a phony story to justify letting him go.

To save a buck. Collins is due 3 million next season so I guess it is a cap move. Can't blame them on this one because Collins isn't worth it. Also they really aren't carbon copies. Leftwich is a deep qb threat and he can't throw short and he can't run either.

I also wondered why we did not go after a Garcia to be both back-up and maybe even be a part of the QB deal here?
I understand that he wanted more of an opportunity to start and that might have held him back PLUS he just signed with the Raiders

It's too late, CH... it's been so declared. So what if the facts don't back up their argument. You and I are clearly just blind to this.
Leftwich's inadequacy in the WCO is NOT because he has a slow release. It's because of his lack of patience. He wants it all NOW, dammit, so "find me the option that's running the post." That is why he ripped our hearts out in Pittsburgh. That is also something that Jason Campbell would not have been able to do given the same circumstances... If Leftwich knows anything, it's how to go for the throat...
He is perfect to come in in relief... but I would not be able to defend bringing him in to start. The problem with Leftwich is, if a defense has the opportunity to game plan for him, he's pretty darned predictable... and pretty easy to prepare for. Yes... he's a gunslinger... and if you hire him, that's pretty much the whole package that he has to offer. A few flashes... and a lot of crashes.

Lol I know I like Garcia. He knows the wc offense well. Is he great no but he does understand what to do. The problem is this. He is a sitting target behind our line and what kind of experience is JC going to get looking over his shoulder or sitting on the bench? I thought that the Eagles were idiots for getting rid of him because I have always thought Mcnabb was over rated and he does get injusred a lot.

I love Leftwich as a backup. Maybe even a starter. I'm not giving up on JC yet tho...
I thought that the Steelers should have left Leftwich in during the playoffs, Although Big Ben impressed me for once on the game winning drive.

Big Ben is a playmaker. At any given moment he can break a tackle and throw the game winning touchdown. He's done it too many times already to not have that hope in the back of your mind every game as a Steelers fan.
I love watching that guy play. He can have three bad quarters and still win the game.

My wife's family is from Pittsburgh and I can't stand listening to their garbage mouth's year in and year out. They're always sending my oldest son Steelers clothes; he's trained well though, and gives them to his sister

Since Byron Leftwich is now a Buccaneer, this thread has been moved to "Around the League".
I'm not surprised by Leftwich's decision to sign with the Buc's. I believe he wants to be a starter in this league and signing with the Buc's gives him that chance.

He'll start there. They have like, three guys that were working at the Circle K during the offseason for QB depth.

My in-laws are from Philly, and my 3 brother-in-laws are huge Eagles fans. They now know not to send Eagles stuff to my kids, since the last time they did so (a little jersey, thinking it was funny), they later saw me using it as a dishrag...
