Bye bye springs (not a pro bowler) and hall (not a pro bowler)
Hello Albert Haynesworth (pro bowler)
Ask the 2007 13-3 Dallas Cowboys with 11 Probowlers How many play off games they won
Haynesworth would makes us better, on first and second down, for 13 games when we were 4th last year on defense.
Is that how you want to spend 12% of our cap "4life"?

I give up. There is no way this would end well. If the rumors about 100 plus mil are not true I would not be opposed to having him. But for 100 mil I'd want Tom Brady like ppl - not a D lineman. They are having lots of fun wth this in philly

You know, I have commented on Hayneworth's tempestuous behavior in the past. However, it's clear that he has a handle on that, and has matured.
He is a powerful, dominating and game changing player. There is no doubt that his presence would immediately make a dramatic improvement in the Redskins defense.
However, if his presence comes at the costs being discussed, that would be insane. The cost in terms of the players we could afford to keep would prevent us from being a contender for years. It would dramatically reduce the money we have for keeping the team adequately stocked with the talent necessary for significant playoff runs. We can't afford him at the prices being discussed in the press.

Wow my number of posts have nothing to do we my football intelligence, it seems like quite the contrary. Spending that much money on ONE player who right now doesn't play all 16 games and will continue to get more injury prone is down right ridiculous. There are FAR greater needs on this team including the offensive line and the linebacker core.
The defense last year was ranked number 4 in the league, pretty impressive. The number of sacks was low but as it has been reported countless times, Blache's scheme does not put much pressure on the QB for the first two downs and instead works to contain the play and/or play the run. While I do think Haynesworth would help (no doubt) the amount of money for the possible results are not worth it. We are not one player away from making it, but once again we seem to follow our past. We have splurged on the injury prone big name free agents in the past... tell me sir how well did that work for us in the past.
So you see I can see you quite clearly as can most people on this site, we just sometimes want to overlook you.

I have a feeling this deal will happen and it'll be tragic. I want a dominating DT but not at this cost.
This falls right into the Skins "win now" attitude, they still feel they are 1 or 2 peices away. This makes the decision to keep Taylor clear. Jason, Andre, Haynesworth and Griffin is a force on paper...

Yeah you can see me, and I can see we both joined in 04 so you've just done more posting, I read more.
The Redskins are my #1 Team
Since I was born and raised and live here in Nashville I do pull for the Titans in the AFC with the Skins winning tie breakers. When I used 'We' I was referring to we the city of Nashville not so much We the Titans.
Hey, I can doom and gloom and woe is us with the best of them but getting Albert Haynesworth is not a bad deal for us! We need a DT and it just so happens that the best DT in Football is a Free Agent, so what if we make him the highest paid player, you get what you pay for, you'd rather have canty from the dallas convicts? And the argument that the rest of our team will be scrubs is ridiculous, if we add Albert H. and just bring back who we already have Monty Carter Daniels London McIntosh Blades Smoot Springs Landry Horton we will still have a great defense, and if the last two Super Bowls have taught us anything its that Defense wins championships.
As much as everyone loves to bash Vinny and Danny... Cerrato knows the cap, he understands it and how to manipulate it, and Danny loves the Redskins so much that he will spend more than the average owner to improve it or at least attempt to improve it, would it have been better to build through the draft... in some ways we have, we've got some real good players 2 pro bowlers that we drafted, yeah there were misses on FA's but you go 1 yr at a time and this year 09' is the Year of Haynesworth
I will be soo excited to see big #92 put on B & G because I understand enough football to know until we win the trenches, we aren't going anywhere

You always have the Ravens, Chris.

No, you
aren't getting what you pay for if you throw 15 million a season at him. What you get for Haynesworth is a 28 year old DT, who is overweight and already injury prone. He's great when healthy, but you're paying franchise quarterback money for a part time player? How is that smart?
15 million a year is what you'd pay for a QB like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. While Haynesworth is a great DT, he doesn't impact a game close to how a franchise QB does.
Not to mention you're tying up about 12% of your salary cap for ONE freaking part-time player. That essentially cripples your ability to get good (not great) players in free agency, and cripples your ability to resign your own free agents. Again, for a guy who will play 11 games a season, and as he gets older, you can expect him to play less than that.
I was under the impression that Snyder had learned something from Gibbs, and his old "Buy a team" approach had gone by the wayside. If this happens, I'll seriously give up all hope for the Redskins, and seriously contemplate joining RiC's "Death to Snyderatto" brigade.

Adam Schefter wrote:Agent: No deal between Haynesworth, Redskins
By: Adam Schefter
After receiving more than 30 telephone calls and e-mails Tuesday from members of the Washington media regarding a potential deal between his client and the Redskins, Albert Haynesworth’s agent, Chad Speck, felt the need to publicly address the situation.
“Albert is not allowed to have a deal with another team, and he doesn’t have a deal with another team,” Speck e-mailed Tuesday night. “We continue to keep the lines of communication open with Tennessee. The rumors suggesting that a deal is in place between Albert and the Washington Redskins are completely false.”
What is true is that the Redskins are one of a handful of teams that will have interest in Haynesworth. But for whoever signs him, it isn’t going to cheap. Haynesworth widely is expected to become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, with a deal that will defy today’s economic hardships and send tremors around the league. The deal could wind up including a signing bonus in the vicinity of $40 million dollars. Washington will have interest. But so will Detroit, Tampa Bay, Tennessee and others.

Come on Skins fans, we all know there's NO WAY the team could afford Haynesworth even if they really wanted him. They'd have to release Taylor, Springs, Moss, Portis and a handful of others to afford that kind of a contract. Of course you never know with Snyder, but at this time, I seriously doubt this will happen.

I agree that we likely don't have the cap space to sign him, but you can't put any stock whatsoever into that quote from his agent. Haynesworth's agent isn't going to come out in the media and admit that the Skins tampered with another team's player.

No they wouldn't
Maybe Haynesworth can play OL for us to and protect the QB
He'd be an upgrade over Geisenger and Kendall
***please Redskins don't sign the pro bowl DT the big bad salary cap will
come and scare us*** you whiners.***
If he goes to Tampa all you people can rejoice and gear up for another year of QB's just hanging out with all day in the pocket sipping a mai tai waiting for springs to be out worked down the sideline
Am I the only one who would be thrilled to see eli manning get pummeled by AH, or have mcnabb see nothing but B&G all day and of course romosexual get his thumb stepped on by the big fella?

This reminds me of Sean Gilbert and Dana Stubblefield all over again.
Yes, I know they signed with the Skins before Snyder bought the team, but it´s practically the same scenrario: over paying for aging, injury prone, big name free agents.
How did that turn out?
Not too bad, actually...
Stubby... maybe... Except that Stubblefield was the beneficiary of a very good Defensive line across the board in SF. With Haynesworth, it's clear that he is the anchor that makes everyone else better. Despite that, for most of his time here, Stubby was considerably more effective than the play we got in 2008. I'd have been thrilled to have him playing last year, especially in comparison with what we had.
Sean Gilbert? Where do you get that from? We traded for him, he played like a beast... he wanted out (God told him to play for the Panthers)... we franchised him... and ultimately turned him into Champ Bailey and Lavar Arrington. Not a bad deal, I'd say. For one first round pick in 1997, we got one in 1999 and one in 2000, both of which were higher than the one we traded...
You're probably right; Counter. I was just basing my assesment of Gilbert on the number of sacks he had whilst in DC: 3 sacks, and played only 16 games during his two years with the team. I do^'t if that makes him a "beast". Anyhow, we did get a great trade for him.
And on this A.H. thing. I don't like it at all. Seems like the kind of player who would be a locker room distraction.

If we are fortunate enough to land AH. I do think he has to be prepared for the kind of division the Redskins are in, in Tennessee they play nfc east style ball but their competition is not quite as nasty. Albert will have all the money and the physical ability but he will definately have to bring his fury week in and week out. You don't think they'd be gunning for him in Dallas after he used gurodes face as a cleat scraper, but thats ok I think he can handle it and I know with Daniels Monty Albert and Andre no one will run on us which plays to our defenses strength the secondary.
Seriously if we could get the Qb at least hurried a bit, we'd have the #1 D
You'd see more picks for TD's and more offensive TD's from short fields after turnovers, the coaching staff knows it and thats why after the evaluation meetings they covet AH.

I don't if that makes him a "beast"
He was a DT. His job was not to get sacks, but to stuff runs up the middle, keep blockers off the LB's and to collapse the pocket. He was every bit as effective as any DT in the league in that... which is why Carolina felt it was ok to part with 2 first round picks for him. The man was a monster until he sprained his ankle during the TG game with Dallas.
Of that, there is no doubt. Beast was the word.
Then, he got his payday with the Panthers... and disappeared. Which was fine with us... as it guaranteed that the picks would be in the top 10...

i will wait to see the details of the deal before i comment,
but...
in all the years i keep hearing we will kill our cap, has not happend, and there might be a season with out a cap in 2010 and if that happens the players said they will NEVER agree to a cap again
