I think he's finally recovered from his injury. People don't realize how serious it was. Frankly, I don't know why he hadn't been placed on IR.

But, I'm glad he wasn't.

True and assuming that he will be a Redskin next year (i don't know much about his contract), I'm looking forward to seeing him 100% healthy next year and being what he was today.
It was most fun watching him embarrass John Runyan on that play where he stripped the ball. That was beautiful.

This is going to be my message all offseason. I will stick to it before and after free agency and the draft:

Jason Taylor: get rid of him before next year. Taylor and Springs; IMO they should both be gone. And Griffin. Talk about cutting some (financial) fat from our defense: if we can manage to unload those guys, then we will be ready to build. (It's time to let go, once and for all, the notion that Griffin will ever be a consistent starter.)

I'd also like to see at least one current OL starter gone before next year, preferably two. At least one of our WRs and one of our RBs (I'm thinking Thrash and/or Rock, as much as I love both players). We need a longer-term solution at KR/PR; Rock is taking up too much valuable roster space not to also play PR.

I haven't given up on Jason Campbell, but he is simply not on pace to be a top-notch QB. I don't know. . .he's not a change I'd pursue as of next year.

I don't think we are in as bad of shape as half of the teams in this league. This conversation begins and ends with our defensive and offensive lines. Three changes: a stud offensive tackle and serviceable guard plus a big defensive tackle with push, would alone make a HUGE difference in our game.

Then there is the matter of a kicker and punter. . .

Yes, we will need replacements for all of these changes I propose. Maybe they can't all happen this offseason. But I think addressing 3-5 of these concerns isn't out of reach—and we won't have to "reach" with draft pick trades to get there.

So that's what I'm sticking to this offseason on THN.

Taylor was a huge factor in our win today. My hope is that the real JT has at last recovered from injuries and arrived. We had one of the best defenses in football today, albeit aided by iggle drops and bad passes. With a killer DT from free agency and a healthy Washington and Springs next year (cross fingers), we'd be great.

Per Rotoworld:

"Defensive coordinator Greg Blache says he wants Jason Taylor to return to the Redskins in 2009.

"As he gets healthy and back in his rhythm, I think you'll see, he's a good football player," Blache said. "He's a real real pro, he's a class act." Perhaps Taylor will be willing to take a pay cut to stay in Washington. He forced a fumble Sunday and had two sacks in by far his best game as a Redskin."

Wasn't that Jason Taylor who kept bouncing all over the line yesterday. It's like they would have three down linemen with Taylor changing positions on the line in constant movement.

It was a good strategy and Taylor made a big impact.

Totally agree, but not an 8 million dollar game.

Don't think I claimed that he did. Just pointing out that he has been above his average Redskins performance.

Where the heck was that all season? He needs to go next season. We can get 2-3 players for what he's costing us and nobody knows which Jason Taylor we'll have next year.

Too little too late.

I agree he's overpriced, but what if he takes a huge paycut to stay here? He's got talent and if we bounce him around, at a hugely cheaper rate, I'm willing to hang on to him. Same with Springs, reduce his role to keep him healthy, reduce his paycheck.

That was Blache's game plan to neutralize Westbrook. When Jason was jumping around, he would follow Westbrook as soon as the ball was snapped. I was wondered what the heck he was doing until the ball was snapped and I saw him running with Westbrook. Great strategy by Blache as it worked for the most part.

Taylor has always been a smallish DE and Nick Saban figured out how best to utilize his skills (which are versatility, intelligence in reading a play and ability to rush off the edge) I posted this over and over back when we got taylor and had some people on this forum argue with me how he was a great DE and would rack up sack totals from the LDE spot

Why it took Blache this long to finally move him around a little is beyond me. Blache is a great DC but can be a little rigid occasionally. I think when you view JT as an OLB who can play alongside Marcus, Rocky and London you will get much more productivity out of him. Then move him to the line on 3rd and longs. We still need a big bodied LDE to stop the run and push the pocket but I hope they keep JT and really work some different packages into the playbook for him.

The problem I see is that we don't have the D-line to play hybrid 4-3/3-4 that warrants letting JT move around the field. We NEED at least 4 coming with the front men we have.

Where do people get this stuff??? Good teams do BOTH

And bad teams focus on the draft, year after year, high draft picks they do nothing with. Good players don't want to sign with them and their own good players play out their rookie contracts and leave. Yet still year after year, "the draft" is offered as a panacea. If we just cut all our players and focused on the DRAFT we'd be a good team! Sure. I'm with you Trey, that's not the issue. We're a borderline playoff team. Last year just in, this year just out. We need to look at all the options.

I think it's a pretty good offseason position to take. I'm not with you on JT, I would go with him another year. But I'm not fanatical about that and I'm with you on the rest. I'd also like to dump ARE as previously commented.

Even if we wanted him back I don't think that he would stay in Washington. Not sure if you heard the radio interview that he did with the Junkies a few weeks ago but he basically said that the scheme that we run doesn't fit him.

That's an excellent post. I would, however, add two things to that. Something needs to be done about our linebacker situation. Marcus Washington can't stay healthy and is nowhere near the same player that he was when we first got him. He should not be a starter anymore in this league. Blades isn't cut out for being a full time starter at outside linebacker so I think that we need to find a replacement for Washington as soon as possible.

I've been a major supporter of JC for a longtime but I've come to the realization that he isn't our answer at qb. He simply isn't a play maker and needs everything around him to be perfect in order to succeed. Therefore I think that we should consider drafting a qb this year, preferably with our third round pick. There is a lot of qb talent available in this draft and we could get a major bargain in the third round. Next year is JC's last year as our starter imo and I have no faith in Brennan being a starting caliber qb in the NFL so we are going to have to get a qb from somewhere.

Keep Taylor (preferably for a lower cost), put Daniels back in a LDE and use Taylor at LB on passing downs and Blades or even Khary Campbell on running downs.
