Sure coaching alone will help this team. Might not take us to the Super Bowl but will certainly help the team - a lot. We literally are looking at 11-1 or 10-2 with nothing but BETTER IN-GAME DECISIONS BY THE COACHING STAFF as said a few posts back. No question about it.

execution is a big part of it too...... which can be helped by proper coaching, so, maybe you're right. i just think this team needs structure...... someone other than the danny to answer too. way too many chiefs, not enough indians. this team has been a bunch of losers so long that we just seem to accept it.

Imagine. LaRon Landry blows up Julius Jones off-tackle, causing a fumble--Skins recover.
Out comes "The Chin" 10 yards onto the field, yelling
"Let's Go!! Let's Go!!"
Hopefully this post never approaches anything near prophecy and the Cowboys never have to see "The Chin" at FedEx. But it'd be humongous if you guys landed Bill Cowher.

I've always been a proponent of a general manager in football.
I think the coaches should have a lot of say, and maybe come to the GM with suggestions, but the GM should have final say over personnel decisions.
Anyway, I'd love to see someone come in and clean up the roster. Maybe rebuild a little.

I'm thinking that Gibbs will be here next year as the GM and Williams and Saunders will run the offense and defense with Williams as the Head Coach.
Nothing is guaranteed by bringing in someone else and going through another transition period - I agree we need to make some changes but IMO we don't need to "start over"
I am still looking for this team to come together and at this time this is who we have - we are not changing anything until the end of the year and we need to see who wants to play here next year - there are going to be a whole lot of changes amongst the players but I think the OC (Saunders) and DC (Williams) are still here next year.

i don't care who the coach is, but imo, there needs to be that guy above the HC. the one that calls all of the shots. the one that builds the roster. granted they are just as hard to find as good coaches, but we have to start somewhere. not having a GM at all isn't helping the problem at all. there is no structure here.
and i personally don't think gibbs is the answer at GM. his past buys him nothing, and his present buys him a one way ticket out of DC, on all levels of the redskins organization.

You have definitely overestimated this man's talent. 15 years to his first SB win, and that took a lot of luck and an incompetent game plan by his opponent.

no. he's a puke fan. i would love for dallass to trade romo for rex grossman and a 2nd round pick....... AND, if it were true, i'd act like i was scared, to death of grossman. just a little reverse psycology i'm sure.
i'm sure in actuallity, BG would LOVE to see cowher on our sideline...

Cowher coached the Steelers to 10 playoff berths in 15 seasons, including 2 AFC Championships and a Super Bowl, and only had 3 losing seasons. His teams netted 11 wins or more in 7 of the 15 seasons and he retired with a 62.3% winning percentage, including a 12-9 postseason record.
No matter who the Steelers lost on defense, he always seemed to fill the void and never miss a beat.
So really, am I overestimating Cowher, or is it you guys who are sleeping on him? And if not Cowher, who is more qualified? Would you guys rather play "MartyBall" for 16 games, only to get a guaranteed early ticket home in the postseason? Is Snyder planning to pay Jimmy Johnson a grip to lure him out of Fox? Denny Green? Mike Tice? Pete Carroll? Jim Haslett? Chan Gailey? Jim Fassel? Bill Callaghan? Butch Davis? Maurice Carthon? Ted Cotrell? Doug Williams? June Jones?
How am I overestimating "The Chin"? He's the best candidate out there and unless I'm totally missing someone, Marty is the only thing even close to Cowher. 15 years at Pittsburgh and a lot of success. He's relatively young (50), he's a proven winner and the defense he fields is a lock to be one of the league's best. Not one of his Pittsburgh defenses (even in his worst seasons) was lower than 16th in points allowed (10 seasons in top 10 / 6 seasons in top 5) or lower than 12th in yards allowed (12 seasons in top 10 / 8 seasons in top 5).

I totally agree. Williams and Saunders are pretty darn good coaches. I don't know if Gibbs will stay or retire, but Williams and Saunders certainly deserve a chance and this team needs some stability scheme wise.
I think it would completely suck if they were to fire the entire coaching staff and have to spend the next few years rebuilding with new coaches and news schemes...
again. That's been our problem for the last decade, new coaches and schemes every few years.

It's not like having the continuity of Gibbs the last 3.5 years has brought much - one playoff win. Gibbs' regular season winning percentage this second time is still lower than Norv's. Continuity is overrated, but winning isn't.

Say what you want too, but you can't bash "The Chin".. The Chin has a great resume with one team and he ALWAYS got his points across to them. My only concern with a new coach is them blowing everything up and starting over. My gosh, look how many years my "Caps" have been starting over, I just can't take it if my Skins were to do it too!!!

I just want a change one way or the other if a change at HC and Staff is so destructive then what in the world is happeneing with the pukes this year???

I don't want Cowher because I don't see him as anything more than a temporary salve but to question his ability is foolish. Remember who the guy had as his quarterbacks during that run too. Very impressive indeed, I'd be exceedingly happy to go on the kind of run the Steelers have been on the past decade plus.

Watch me.
15 years before a Superbowl Victory.
He is Marty S with a hair more luck. Marty won plenty of playoff games as well... just ask our friends in a variety of other football towns...

Yeah. He's a bandaid, a short-term remedy, and we don't need that.
We need a scalpel. Time to open this mess up and fix it long-term.
I'm all for hiring a young coach, a young GM, and going through the rebuilding phase.

But it was a lot more recent (and in the salary-cap era) than any recent SB wins by the current coach of the 'skins. Cowher won more games than he lost, which isn't really saying much, but it's something our current coach can't say since the comeback.

He's only 50 years old. He could coach for 10 more years! or 15.
I doubt he would be just a temporary solution.

My point is there is no reason to get an erection over the potential of Cowher... Marty has a nearly equivalent record... without the single Superbowl victory... Are folks thrilled to see him coming? I don't think so.
Do ya'll feel like waiting another 15 years for a SB? With the incessant whining over the current coaching situation, it seems the answer would be no. So, why settle for a coach who has an inferior history to the current coach, whom so many are seeking to toss under the bus?

Cowher has a winning record and a Super Bowl win in the salary cap era. Gibbs has a losing record in the same era. Overall Gibbs obviously has a superior history and is a Hall of Fame coach. But in today's game I would say that Cowher is the better coach.

First, I'd take Marty over Gibbs right now. Gibbs is clearly floundering. Marty's still got a better record than Gibbs II as coach of the Redskins, and that's not saying much. I'm sure a long-time fan such as yourself knows Marty was only .500 as the 'skins HC, but still, that's a bar Gibbs can't seem to clear so far.
Second, any realistic fan recognizes the team could easily be as bad under Cowher as they are under Gibbs. There are no guarantees in this sport. But any realistic fan also recognizes that Gibbs is still lost in his 4th year, and this team is going nowhere with him in charge. So the choice is either go with someone new, like Cowher, and possibly fail, or stick with what we have, and definitely fail. I think the correct choice is obvious.

For all those opposed to Gibbs coaching out the final year of his contract (which he says he will), would your opinion of him change should he lead us to a Super Bowl win next season, if not sooner?
Would you still be complaining?
Just a thought.

If not sooner? That's just delusional.
Almost equally unlikely is a superbowl win next season though. Our team is MUCH older and much worse off now than we were when Gibbs took over.
