yeah so i just read the title to this thread and had to comment.

if you think that the pats are over rated you havnt watched a single pats game this season.

if you think this is a great match up you havnt watched a single skins game this season.

on the other hand this is a set up for a trap game. thats all, im out.

If we could just blitz Taylor a few times and have him knock the living snot out of Brady, not only would we win but we'd be the saviors of the NFL. Down with the evil empire and lord brady!

It will only take 1 or 2 times. The supermodel lover boy dont like getting hit. If something happens and he gets hurt (heaven forbid) you think Castle can run that machine... dont think so

Skins have a chance, thats why they play the game and not go off of stats and rosters. I bet Wes, Randy and Donte want to meet Taylor and Landry before the game not during if you get what I a sayin'

Actually, they scored a TD in the 2nd half against the Cards.

You can go back to ranting now, I have nothing else.

Bob 0119 wrote:We are currently the 5th ranked defense based on Yards Allowed Per Game. Know who's 4th?

Yup, the New England Patriots...

The teams they have faced weren't all entirely weak offenses either

So far they have beaten offenses currently ranked:

2nd Dallas
4th Cincy
7th Cleveland
13th San Diego
15th Miami
29th Jets
31st Buffalo

Compared to our opponents offenses currently ranked:

8th Philly
9th Giants (loss)
11th Green Bay (loss)
12th Arizona
15th Miami
16th Detroit

Their defense has faced three teams with offenses of higher rankings than anyone we've faced, and their defense is still ranked higher than we are.

Our offense is currently ranked 25th. They have shut down 5 teams with offenses higher ranked than ours.

Granted, they have not faced a defense as tough as ours...or have they?

Did you look at Dallas' defense (currently ranked 7th)? If you subtract the Patriots 448 total yards they'd be ranked 4th.

I hate drawing a comparison to the Cowgirls, but in that game they faced a team that is currently ranked 2nd in total offense and 7th in defense. They didn't just eek out a win here, they decimated 'em (it was great at the time).

We are ranked 25th and 5th respectively.

I love my team and all, but I'm not getting my hopes up on this one... :(

The Pies' numbers are inflated, too. Their competition has had only slightly better defenses than the Patsies.

I'm detached. "We" implies I have some control over what this team is doing or is not doing. I don't. If they continue to piss in the wind I have no control over it. And I won't lose any sleep over it. My 2 cents

No problem. I'm simply trying to get the perspective of a member who used the word "we" as to include himself as part of the team. I've never done that for the stated reason. The other word to which you refer is an entirely different issue and not related to this thread. :P

Maybe I should consider myself part of the team.

You weren't even speaking to me, but as I use "we" all the time to describe the Skins, I felt I should answer your post. Besides, I live or die with the team, so I do consider myself part of the family.

Actually I was speaking to anyone who uses "we" so I welcome your input. I used to live and die with the team but I developed ulcers so I can't do it anymore.

It's pretty common to use "we" as long-time rabid fans of the Redskins.

Everyone who thinks the Patriots cannot run the ball, just look at this.

Patriots: 32 Rushing Attempts per game. 4.2 yards per attempt, 934 yards, 133.4 yards rushing per game. Ranked 7th in the NFL in yards per game rushing.

Redskins: 32.2 Rushing Attempts per game. 3.6 yards per attempt, 688 yards, 114.7 yards rushing per game. Ranked 16th in the NFL in yards per game rushing.

Yes, the Patriots have a far better rushing attack than the Skins do and run the ball just as often as we do.

They have a top 10 rushing attack. They can run the ball. And they do.

We have played much better defenses than they have, and you obviously know about our O-line problems.

Of course. However, I'm just trying to point out that the Patriots do run the ball, and they run it a lot. People saying that they have a mediocre running game are flat out wrong; #7 ypg in the NFL isn't mediocre by any definition you'd chose to use.

I only used the Skins as a comparison, since people know we run the ball a lot. Yet we only run it .2 more times per game than the Patriots...

The 0-7 Dolphins -- barely, in overtime
The 2-4 last place Eagles
The 4-2 Lions, a team that never wins on the road
The 3-4 Cardinals, playing with a one armed backup QB

Plus we endured a second half collapse to the Giants when the Giants were on the verge of their season imploding.

Bottom line is that the statistics mean nothing. New England is crushing everyone, and the Redskins are struggling to beat weak teams. It will take a tremendous performance to beat New England, one that must far surpass any of our performances so far.

i think you misunderstood the post - OR maybe you just want to be very negative - there is nothing here that suggests the Redskins are going to win - only that this should be an interesting matchup - you have made it very clear where you stand as far as supporting this team but all this post is about is that this should be an interesting game - I would like to ask if you think the Redskins are going to lose by 17, which is the present line in Vegas? If not then maybe you need to read into the post just a little and try to not be so anti-Redskins?

I am very realistic about our chances this week - I am very respectful of what the Patriots have done - I just do not see us losing this game by 17 points  - that is all I took from the comment that the Pats are "over-rated" - NOT that they are not an excellent team but they are not 17 points better than the Redskins even with all the offensive line problems we are experiencing.

BTW - I am also looking forward to the Pats - Colts game - the Colts are the current champs and they like the Pats are a better team this year - be a big mistake, if you are a betting man, to take the Pats giving 17 and find out that they thought they could just show up this week and beat us by 21 - NOT GOING TO HAPPEN  Should be a Pats win but you never know which team wants it more on any given Sunday - this will be a lot closer than that.

I agree,Our D has saved us before and if our O can work it out than we would win.But even with bad O we might lose by 10 points top no 38-8 or nothing like that but maybe 17-10 if we lose but we never know will wee.

This game will depend on TOP, if it's about 50-50 then we'll be ok, this means the D is rested somewhat and the offense is sustaing drives. If the D can stay fresh they will hold, I TRULY BELIEVE THAT. It's our O that needs to get in rythm, and score at least 24 pts.

I STRONGLY DISAGREE...

That just means that you are STRONGLY WRONG. You don't have to like them. The Patriots offense is clearly the class of the league this year, a fact that can be seen even by Stevie Wonder and Jose Felliciano. You are in denial. Get help.

Being a Redskins fan does not mean you can't make accurate assessments of other teams.

This game will depend on TOP, if it's about 50-50 then we'll be ok,

How is this inconsistent with admitting that the Patriots offense is pretty darned good? I think we all agree that, if any defense can match up with the Patriots offense, it is the Redskins. I think we can also agree that, given enough time, any good offense will eventually wear down an equivalent defense. You leave any defense out to dry too many times, and they will start to slide.

Time of possession in this game will have much more to do with OUR offense moving the ball than it will with the Patriots. If we are at 50-50, it means that our O was actually able to move the ball, and we are in the game.

If TOP goes to the Patriots, it means that they weren't, and we will lose.
But, again... that's about OUR offense... not the Patriots.

These posts are killing me. I haven't seen anyone say they suck, and I haven't seen anyone say they aren't good. Prove it if you think so. If you can't prove it. Then stop acking like people are saying that.

IMO, they are one of the best right now in football. But that don't mean they are unbeatable or invincible. Which is what a lot are saying, and that sir IS OVERRATED.

So you say, that us playing a really bad defense in the LIONs did not have anything to do with the numbers JC put up against them????

Same for the Pats. Do you think they will put up the same numbers against a top 5 defense that they will a bottom 5 defense?

Thats what Im saying is that their numbers are inflated.

The question to all you guys saying they are not, then prove it.

The FACT they have played crapy defenses is just that FACT. and you are saying that has nothing to do with it and they would have the same numbers against other teams, you are fooling yourself.

Smarten up. This whole thread is premised on the statement that the Patriots offense is "over rated". I'm saying that is ludicrous. They are, statistically and based on performance, the best in the league. They did the same thing to Dallas, one of the best defenses in the league, that they have done to the more mundane teams. They are NOT over rated.

What's your problem? Your above statement is based on an erroneous premise.

If the Redskins offense had put up the same numbers against the same competition the Patriots have faced, would anyone be saying the Redskins offense is "over-rated"? :o

CT, Methinks you are correct on this point.
