They gave the Redskins plenty of props all game long, especially touting the secondary and how much it has improved over last year. Of course, Philly's receivers make any secondary look better, but that's another story.
As far as Barkley, I think he's hilarious, but that's me. Also, TV is not about objectivity - it's about sales and entertainment, or more simply - MONEY. How many damn commercials did we have to wait through. So many times after kickoffs they could have let the drive start and I don't think that happened once.
This trend is not something unique to ESPN, news stations and other forms of journalism are all turning into entertainment. MNF booth is just one more extension to that. Deal with it, it's the age we live in.

dude during the challenge.. they showed the replay 3 times. and it was clear that the ball was coming out. and after the 3rd one. they went back to a shot of the booth and they started talking about god knows what.
Yeah, I agree that wasn't cool. Even though I loved seeing Barkley, Tony, and Jaws rip into the Philly fans they didn't cover the game there like they should have. I mean, they need to say that stuff when there is not a play going on or after they've made their comment on the play.
But it was still great hearing them Rip the Philly fans for about 20 minutes. I was laughing so hard at that!

Hopefully ESPN and the team will learn from their mistakes - having a guest on MNF is great but it has to be handled well and the guest has to learn that that is what he is - he is not there to offer anything except his presence - this week's play calling and especially Barkley showed that they have to control this part of the "show" better.
As far as the game was concerned I'm surprised that the guys in the booth did not correct Barkley when he explained how good Instant Replay was and this was a good example of how it works and why it is there to correct mistakes by the crew - we all know it was not a fumble but it also was not a completion!
They also missed the play where McNabb was clearly over the "blue" line of scrimmage and completed a pass - these guys were so distracted by themselves that they did not even notice it

The game was a good one and close to the end. If McNabb scores a TD at the end, we'd have all been biting our nails to see if he makes the two-point conversion. But the guys in the booth were jabbering about crap. The fact that there was a football game on was secondary to their constant chatter.

I replayed that a few times, and it looked as if he had one foot behind the line. I thought the rule was you had to have both feet and the ball over the line for it to be an illegal forward pass, but I could be wrong. Someone help me out here.

The QB's entire body must be past the line of scrimmage to be an illegal forward pass.

Charles Barkley was pretty decent in the booth and the rest of the TV team did a pretty nice job as well.
Just because they didn't spend the whole game drooling over the Redskins doesn't mean it wasn't a well called game.
It was ALL ABOUT THE EAGLES. All they talked about what the Eagles even before the game. Eagles this Eagles that. And how the Eagles don't get enough respect, and how Andy Reid doesn't get enough respect, and Mcnabb doesn't get enough respect. Then once the Redskins got the momentum swung in their favor it was about the Patriots, Sixers. C'mon man this was a joke. The announcers are pathetic and they should be fired.

The game was called as an afterthought, like ESPN was televising a basketball game and just happened to occasionally update the football scores.
Blah, Blah, Blah ... oh and by the way Jason Campbell completed a touchdown pass to Chris

ey about 5 minutes ago while we were discussing why no one is kissing Donovan McNubb's butt. We at ESPN, of course, referred to it as a lack of respect.
Bring back Theismann. He was boring but at least he talked about the game in progress.

I think it's the worst sports broadcast I've ever witnessed... and I'll just add that I actually really like Charles Barkley.
Thoroughly 'unentertaining', and completely uninformative despite a few attempts from Jaws.

I think Tony Kornholer is to blame for much of this. He is a journalist, not a sports commentator, if you will. They were not commentating or calling the actual game. Tony just wants to editorialize everything rather than actually calling the game or the play-by-play stuff.
I like Barkley too, but if Tony or ESPN wants his opinions on a whole range of topics, then have him on PTI or Cold Pizza. He was on air for half of the 2nd quarter and I think all of the 3rd quarter. They are there to call the game. I don't mind a guest stopping by the booth, but not for that long and to only talk about one team.
And if Tony wants to discuss Reid's family problems and all that other non-game related stuff, then put it in his column or talk about it on PTI. HELLO, THERE"S A GAME BEING PLAYED!
I give Jaws credit for not being a
total homer, but they need to be unbiased when commentating a game. It needs to be balanced. Even my friend who is a huge Twiggles fan thought it was awful and biased.
The worst I've ever witnessed.

Extremely lame coverage and commentating. I never have understood why we have to see the commentators while the game is going on, over and over and over again.
I am an old schooler, and I think it has gone down hill since they changed from a play-by-play commentator and one color man to 2 or 3 color commentators. No one is actually paying attention to the game any more, they just like to pontificate.
I like CB too, but he became more of the show than the game. Should have gotten the hook 3 minutes into the act.

Completely agreed. I kept screaming at the TV...show the damn game!

Yep. As soon as he repeated himself for the 16th time that in the NBA they all knew each others plays and the scout team would run them in practice.

Jaws was in no way an unbiased color commentator, got sick of hearing all the Eagles and Mcnabb talk.

I completely agree with everyone, even the conflicting statements. I like Jaws and Barkley and even Korny. My beef is really with the producers and directors of the show. It was sub-par all around. I saw at least twice where they mistakenly put up a "placeholder" graphic with things like "Aaaaag" in it.
