This ain't your Redskins team of the last 15 years. If you're 20 or under, what you just witnessed was what we saw from 80 to 92. Close games. Bend but don't break D. Enough O to win. Solid special teams. Nothing fancy. The only season Gibbs teams stomped the opposition were 83 and 92. The rest of those years the formula for success was hard work by a multitude of players who came and went. I have a good feeling. This is a solid team. And my favorite Skins team since 92. You can sense that they come to work for the full 60 in all three phases. That's Redskins football. Thank heaven it's back.

No. 89 looked like old No. 84 tonight. Almost. How on earth does Jason Campbell miss him for that crowd silencing TD? Sheesh. Lloyd is still the invisible receiver. We got Rypien for a 6th round draft choice and he would have hit Gary Clark in stride for the game clinching TD in his rookie season. Plenty of time for that. Anyway, awesome game skins, really nice. Lots of possibilities coming. Gibbs has got this team on track!

I am happy for the win -- I'll take it. I need 14 more and my prediction of a 16-0 season will come true. But I have no problem with what they experts have said about us, and no problem with the lack of "respect" from around the league. Why? We still haven't proven anything. We beat a couple of 0-2 teams. The experts yawn -- as they should. I don't care if the Eagles won the division last year. That was last year. We are only getting started, and we have not earned respect yet -- so let them keep picking us to lose. Come to think of it, I hope the Redskins are 21 point underdogs in the Superbowl. I am going to win a lot more money that way. Hahahahhahahahaha.

I am very happy with this win. There are some negatives to take from this game as well as alot of positives.

Negatives:

- Injuries. At this rate, we will be pulling linemen from the practice squad soon. I am not concerned with Fabini and Wade stepping up. My concern is what if they go down now. We have just been decimated on the right side although Buges will have the replacements ready to go against NY, I am still concerned with the depth after the depth.

- Carlos Rogers. Even though it looked like GW and Jerry Gray might have told him to play up on the line and not give so much cushion, I am still concerned about his ability to react to the ball. He showed that he can turn and run by staying with Curtis, who is fast, all night but he needs to learn how to react to the ball in the air better and make a play. He's still late or not turning at all when the ball was in the air.

- Run defense. We are still having a little trouble on Andre Carter's side with the run defense. Westbrook carved out some good chunk of yards on that side and was getting too deep into the secondary on numerous run plays.

- In game coaching. It's like there is still some coordination issues with Joe and Al when we get in the redzone. We had to burn a couple of timeouts there that we shouldn't have and we got the delay of game penalty right before we scored the TD at the end of the half. You could see JC turning his hands over in the huddle asking for the play. Also, when we have a defense on the ropes, we need to smash them in the mouth with Portis, Portis, Portis, Betts, Betts, Betts. We had Philly on the ropes just like we had Miami but we didn't pound on them with CP and Betts. We still need to find our identity on offense though...

- JC. Jason needs to get his ball down and a better feel for his arm strength. He had Moss wide open and missed badly. There were also a couple of passes that he sailed to ARE and Moss across the middle. JC also needs to improve upon his decision making. Even though he bounced back a second week from throwing an interception, he has to make better decisions on when and where to throw the ball. He should have hit ARE alot sooner instead of holding the ball on that INT.

Positives:

- Our OL can pick up the pieces and roll. Fabini and Wade did pretty good filling in and it looks like Buges has the OL clicking.

- The defense bent but didn't break. I was really impressed by their ability to hold the Eagles to just FGs. Especially holding them on numerous occassions in the red-zone. I think that Rogers should use this game film to realize that he can play up and still cover but also know that he can improve. Landry and Taylor are definitely up and coming as one of the best Safety combos in the league.

- Pass rush and our CBs. Our CBs did a great job in coverage which allowed our pass rush to be very effective. I am very pleased with our rush on the ends. They were a second or a step away from getting more sacks on numerous occassions. There is also room for improvement and they will get better as the season progresses.

- Offensive play calling. Even though we had a few mishaps in the redzone and JC missed some big throws, it is good to know that those opportunities are there. Like Moss being wide open. Excellent play call. Caught the Eagles completely off-guard and had JC put right there, game over. But the good thing is, is that it was there.

- CP. CP is getting his legs back and barring anymore injuries to the OL and to CP himself, I think that he can definitely get back to being one of the top rushers in the league.

- The kicking game. We finally got one.

- Chris Cooley. Hopefully this game was the jump start to get him back into the fold and to exploit him as a major weapon.

- JC. His ability to remain calm and bounce back after throwing a pick is very good. I also like the way his is using his eyes to look off the defense when throwing. His ability to scramble now adds a new dimension to his game and what we can do on offense even if a pass play breaks down. JC is a "throw first" QB by nature it appears, so it's good to know that he has the legs to use if necessary to avoid a sack or lost.

- Next week. We have set the table with this game and now the Giants have to game plan for multiple things across the board and not just one or two. They now have to game plan for Cooley, ARE, and Moss as we went to them frequently last night. They have to game plan to stop CP. They also have to game plan for JCs ability to run the ball out of the pocket. IF not for ARE getting in the way, JC would have scored on that long scramble down the sideline. If the coaching staff realizes that we have all of these weapons and Al continues to utilize them, we will become a very dangerous offensive team and start putting up 20+ point games on a regular. GW and the defensive staff have alot of positives to take into next week.

It's only been two games and we are showing signs of getting somewhere this year. I just hope we can continue to get better and better; keep the injuries minimal and any issues at Redskins Park at a barely minimum...

I hope this isn't lost on the rest of you. That is one of the things that impressed me most about JC last night. He didn't "focus" on one WR but instead his eyes were all over the place. That has got to put the defense on their heals a bit. This is this sign of a maturing QB, folks.

Like Jaws said late last night, "The Redskins have found their QB for the next 10 years in Jason Campbell."

It would be rather hard for those of us who watched the game to miss it since Jaws did a segment on that very thing.

In the defense of anyone who missed the segment, Barkley was shooting his mouth off, Tirico was worshipping false Philly Gods, and Kornheiser was trying to get a word in edgewise about how the other team on the field might be worth watching. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if most Redskins fans simply muted the volume as opposed to listening to irrelevant droning ... I did.

I agree they were god awful but the segment also involved a breakdown of that very thing using video highlights with a focus on Jason's eyes. My roommate (Iggles fan) laughed and said, "he has such dream eyes when he's looking off a safety."

Jaws is actually pretty decent at breaking down game film if they aren't having a "Love-In" in the booth. When he was on NFL Matchup, he was usually worth watching. I did see the segment but I didn't hear the segment so I wasn't exactly certain what they were doing.

Since you mentioned your roomate and safetys, how did he react when Brian Dawkins got steamrolled by Yoda? :-)

Profanity followed by profanity followed by "that's bad, that's not good." For the record, I hope Dawkins is OK, I have tremendous respect for the guy.

I think everyone is aware of my position on player injuries from the "Kevin Everett" thread. If not, I will say that while I don't mind seeing an opposing player get slobber-knockered, I always want to see the player get up. Dawkins is an excellent safety, truly. He has a nose for the football, as evidenced by his number of interceptions, and he is not afraid to lay a hit on anyone. Sounds like a player the Redskins have.

As for the game...

I have a bone to pick with ARE. Dude needs to learn how to get out of bounds when there as the clock winds down and there are no more timeouts.

His play before the end of the half was incredible, but it unnecessarily added to the drama that made the Skins coaches look incredibly inept on national TV. My 2 cents

What mase the Redskins' coaches look inept was failure to get the play in to Jason Campbell before the play clock expired. ARE gained several extra yards on that play, not one or two extra yards. If he had not done that, the Redskins would have been kicking the field goal without question.

Where was Springs? Why was Torrence in there when the game was on the line? Did I miss something or did we have Torrence, Rogers, and Macklin in there all at the same time?

The Redskins were in a "Prevent" defense. Torrence is the fastest player on the Redskins and can cover a lot more ground than can Springs in a prevent defense. Torrence also wasn't winded from playing the entire game. I'm guessing that would be a couple of reasons.

How does my having a roommate who roots for Philly have any bearing, whatsoever, on anything else, at all in regards to the Redskins? For the record, I have close friends who are Cowboys and Giants fans, most of my relatives on my mom's side are Cowboys fans, I am going to the Giants game with a close friend who is a Giants fan and, until early this year, was dating an Eagles fan. So what?

What does The Evil Straw's personal life have to do with this thread?

Furthermore, the post is dangerously close to the legal definition of slander. Accusing anyone, in writing no less, of "taking dirty money" is nothing less than grounds for a civil suit.

Since nothing here has to do with this thread, I'm going to end here.

Campbell said the receiver in his helmet malfunctioned and he had no communication with the coaches. Good thing Andy called that time-out. They'll work on that for sure.

Great win. Campbell missed a few but looks like he has great poise and will only get better. The defense is looking good. And how 'bout that Landry kid?

My My 2 cents :

On the JC scramble.. I guess when you mute the game, you can't hear that he STEPPED OUT 3 yds before the collision with ARE.

On the cover3 that was so illustriously shown in a thread last week, We're going to give up the underneath A LOT. It's the weakness of the cover3. The beauty of htat same cover3, is in the red zone the zone for the 3 deep isn't deep, which shortens the middle up as well.

We still need to create turnovers. We will not be great until we produce turnovers. Unfortunately, I don't see the current scheme dominating that category. Especially since we should have 2 more INTs than we have on the books currently. LL should have caught that ball close to the end zone.

It sucks to lose our whole right side of the line, but it's nice to have another win. In a few weeks we may have a blocking sled for an offensive line.

Jason Campbell will continue to improve and ARE is better than I thought.

We could use a stronger running game, and that gets really tough with Thomas out. I don't think there are any FA's out there to sign who are better than Fabini, so we're stuck with a patchwork offensive line IMO.

One thing that stands out to me above anything is our ability to win the "close game". It has been rough, pretty ugly at times and we are going through the pains of a young quarterback. At the same time though, our young quarterback is the one that is correcting his mistakes and making just enough plays to give us the win.

I see a lot of potential just waiting to explode. My bet is that it will happen sometime within the next 5 games. I think he is just that good. When it happens, the league will be forced to take notice that the Washington Redskins are for real and very dangerous on the football field.
