EXIT STAGE LEFTWICH
1010XL Radio in Jacksonville was the first to report (as far as we can tell) that the Jaguars will be cutting or trading quarterback Byron Leftwich.
A league source tells us that the talk among the players is that Leftwich has already been cut.
The team has scheduled a 5:30 p.m. EDT press conference to discuss the situation.
Leftwich was named the 2007 starter way back in February, despite a disappointing 2006 season during which he was either injured or benched or both.
Taking Leftwich's place will be David Garrard. Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that former Jags starter Mark Brunell, currently a reserve in Washington, could be acquired to serve as Garrard's understudy.
Who are all these NFL execs that still think Brunnell is worth acquiring? Unbelievable! (But hey, i'll take a mid-round draft pick for him...)

Let's have a bidding war

The state he played his college ball in versus the city that he brought into the league

This could get interesting. Palmer in no way is ready to be on an active roster. So what do the Skins do about 3rd string? I don't know the stat about how often a 3rd string QB ends up playing - but I imagine it's rare. Mark is too good to be 3rd on the depth chart - again, I hope this works out for him.
All Hail the Maroon and Black!!!!

Anderson? Have you watched him play this preseason? I'm in Ohio and have to watch the Browns far too often. Their game even delayed Big Brother (which, btw, has a Brunell look-a-like in it). I don't like having Palmer as our 3rd stringer, but I think we could do much better than Anderson.frankcal20 wrote:I would think that they would trade mark if they could and pick up someone after the cuts like a Derrick Anderson from Cleveland or one of the QB's from Oakland. Don't forget that Chris Simms may be cut too. That wouldn't be a bad #2 or #3

Gibbs: No Truth to Brunell Trade Rumor
By Gary Fitzgerald
Redskins.com
September 1, 2007
Head coach Joe Gibbs flatly denied media reports that the Redskins are considering trading quarterback Mark Brunell.
Talking to the media in a Saturday afternoon press conference, Gibbs was asked if he expected Brunell to be on the roster in 2007.
"Yeah," Gibbs said.

Doesn't mean much, now if he had said "yeah, Mark is super smart ... " it might mean something

I'll take 1 7th rounder, but not a ham sandwitch. That's just because I'm Jewish.

Where did you hear that?
Just a gut feeling. For some reason I think that Leftwitch could end up in Detroit, Chicago, or NY Jets. Just a gut feeling.
Chiefs, Atlanta, Cleveland, Baltimore, Green Bay

OK going off 2 "gut feelings" I have Detroit, Chicago, or NY Jets plus Chiefs, Atlanta, Cleveland, Baltimore, Green Bay all interested in Leftwitch. And this eliminates Seattle's interest in Brunell, how?

Green Bay could be a possibility. I don't see their backup as their guy. That could be a great pickup for them.

I'd be content with ARE as our 3rd/emergency QB. For the past couple of years, he's been the one to throw the better looking long ball. Anyway we can get something for Brunell is a good way.LOSTHOG wrote:The biggest thing w/ Brunell is the fact that by playing so poorly, Palmer almost singlehandedly killed any trade the Redskins could do. Palmer can't be 3rd. Anybody remember the body bag game. Sometimes these guys have to play. I guess ARE could take over at third temporarily.
