Derrick Dockery's contract is worth $49 million over seven years, including a stunning $18 million guaranteed.
To put in perspective, future Hall of Fame LT Orlando Pace got a $15 million bonus to sign two years ago. Dockery has never made the Pro Bowl, but will reportedly make $18 million over three years and $23 million over five years. It's essentially a five-year deal.

The Bills made Dock the highest paid player, per year, in team history. They waaaay over paid for Dock.

Three NFL executives who scouted the Redskins over the weekend all came to the same conclusion about Washington's issues at left guard, and time was running out for Wade to make the transition. Now, with Kendall here, Wade could go back to being a reserve tackle if need be - Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels has missed nearly the entire preseason with a knee injury - and Washington's depth on the line - considered a major deficiency by many scouts - is much improved.
The Redskins have been averse to trading any more 2008 draft picks - their 4th rounder is already gone from last year's acquisition of TJ Duckett - and I have not been able to nail down if they gave up a 4th or a 5th in 2009, but it's believed to be one of those two picks. They gave Kendall a $1 million raise as part of the deal as well, so he'll make $2.7 million this season. Kendall has played previously for Seattle, Arizona and New York.
Kendall is not here yet and must still pass a physical, but that looks like a mere formality at this point.
Good move by the Skins and one, frankly, they had to do because of the position they were in. Like people told me over the weekend, they were asking for trouble with the combinations they had.

personally, im stoked the skins got a left guard who is a starter. this business of trying to start a tackle or a reserve guard as the starting left guard was making me feel uneasy. im much happier now knowing that we have a real starting left guard and have a real good reserve for jansen and samuels. this should make the oline for real again.

Guys relax here. Everything I've heard about Kendall is pretty good and the article on ESPN was quoted that the "former Boston College star, Kendall has appeared in 158 games, all but two of them as a starter. He has played all 16 games in five different seasons and has never appeared in fewer than 11 games in a year." That's pretty impressive and he's a lot better than Wade at guard and Pucillo is better suited to be the backup at the center and guard positions. Now this moves Wade back to tackle and with Heyer improving we have two pretty solid backups for Jansen and Samuels. Wade, at 6-8 is just too big to play guard. His height was a major problem from the start and anyone who went to training camp noticed it. And the concerns about his age are not valid. He's a stop gap for a couple of years which gives us a chance to draft a guard. We clearly need to build depth through the draft, a major mistake of this organization for years. Good move!

Thanks for posting that. This is an intriguing move by the Skins, since now Wade has been freed up to be a backup nearly anywhere on the line. With Heyer and potentially Wade I have to admit that I feel very good about our tackle positions. Thomas seems healthy, and Pucillo is little more than a backup, so this move does make sense from a depth standpoint.
I'm relieved to hear that these were 2009 draft picks being thrown around. That is much better than giving up another '08 pick.

I agree. My first reaction to this deal was negative, but this could have been simply a necessary move to avoid catastrophe on the o-line this year. . .and that alone is worth a 4th or 5th pick in 2009.

I think it's a good move considering the state of the O-line. Wade can now move back to T until Samuels is ready to go and Kendall can move right in at G.
Not too sure about JLC's report though Adam S over at NFLN is reporting that Kendall has passed his physcal and has signed a new deal, he's also saying it was a conditional 4th rounder in 2008 not a 4th or 5th in 09.

Another desparation move that involves moving draft picks. May be immature as there will be a lot of guards out there as teams widdle down their rosters. Time will tell.
Agreed, we have OL problems and need a proven starter and depth. Can't fault the move too much but it's just disappointing we're in this position. The OL had better be a focus of future drafts or free agent signings-- young guys!
This is just a symptom of years of selling off draft picks. No depth. This will turn around if the management "stays the course."
Prayer to Football gods: Please bring us more Stephon Heyers.

Adam Schefter from NFL network is reporting it so you can be
pretty sure this deal is done. We need a true Guard at the position and
Wade was showing promise as a Tackle. Heyer isn't ready to start but he'll get better fast under Bugel or he'll be gone.
I can't wait to see the skins beat up on Phili in week 2. I"m going to the game. Love living in Phili but the fans are idiots.

I'm with you on this. For all the nay sayers.....open your eyes! How could you possibly disagree with a move that gives us a starter at guard and depth accross the entire O-line? A 4th rounder too much? Not at all......... 4th rounders are supposed to make your roster and you HOPE you uncover a gem there but it is a crap shoot. To the "build for the future" crowd... here's a line from Rocky..."There is no tommorow!" Gibbs has one year left as coach. This is a win NOW league. I think too many of the loyal 'Skins fans out there have gotten too deep into that old Brooklyn Dodgers saying "wait till next year", you don't realize that this
is next year. Gibbs has done a great job of getting out of cap hell, putting in young talent at key positions, and is now just filling in the blanks. This has taken 3 years to do. Year 4 & 5 he (and we) should be reaping the rewards of this labor.

I wouldn't call it a desparation move, they picked up a statring guard for under $3M half way though the pre-season after injuries to the O-line. Waiting until other teams cut lineman that aren't good enough to make it with them would be a move of desparation and could get a QB injured in the meantime.

Injuries and a overpriced offensive line market put the Skins in this position. Going after a G in the off-season would have been costly and the unit they planned to feild looked good on paper. We have youth on the OL Calvin Armstrong, OT (24), Stephon Heyer, OT (22), Kili Lefotu, OG (23), Mike Pucillo, OG (27), Ross Tucker, OG/C (27), and Taylor Whitley, OG (26) all under 30. Heyer appears to be the best of the lot and is the only one without any experince
