Folks, there is way too much consternation over a vet minimum signing. So they take a look at the guy? So what? Why does that automatically signal some act of desperation?

I have no problem with looking at the guy. The thought that he might make the team scares the heck out of me.

Let me rephrase. He doesn't suck, he's just completely washed up. He hasn't played since 2004 and this guy never had the body style to hold up to an NFL beating. He was a stick figure. I watched him play because I live in Eagleland. He was streaky at best in his prime which is long gone.

He couldn't even hold his balance and he was wiiiiiide open. Anyway, if JC has
that much time to throw, and our receivers (any of them) beat the defense
that badly, that video could be of anyone. I don't think it shows Pinkston's talent (other than maybe some speed) - rather, it shows the Redskins getting plain beat on a long ball, IMO.

I knew that there was a Vinny Cerrato fan out there still dfending his hiring record and "talent" discovery abilities.
What an embarrasment!!!
That's the FO for you guys. Instead of having looked for young undiscovered talent, we resort to have to SEARCH for talent in one of the most COWARD and INEPT receivers NOBODY else would even bother to look at.

I can't tell if you're being serious or not.
Freaking out about this move is totally ridiculous IMO.
He's a veteran reciever signed for the vet minimum so we can take a risk free look at him.
The fact is, we have ARE (a 3rd string WR and special teams ace) and Brandon Lloyd (a joke) as our 2 and 3 recievers. The Redskins are out there looking at the best possible vets available at the time to bring to camp. Pinkston and Bradford both have something to offer this team considering we are so painfully thin at WR.

seems like a few mis-qotes
I'm not sure why we are getting so concerned here? We might need to add some players so that the players we would like to "rest" can "recover" - we have not been hurt too badly this camp but IMO we also need to keep in mind that we will most likely not be seeing a lot of these players on our roster as the "real" season approaches.

I for one am hoping that Lloyd can get back onto the field as soon as possible and in "shape" - IF he has the type of season that he is capable of (I know we have not seen any evidence of this yet) we will be a lot better in the passing game than we have been for a long while.
Maybe I'm a little unrealistic but I think we will be a good team on offense this year (not very good or great) and a very good team on defense and Special Teams. I think that will be good enough for at least a 10-6 season and a sound basis to be very competitive next season.
At this time it seems we need a few extra bodies at various positions and that is all this signing represents.

okay after letting this soak in a few days i've change my opinion. i mean i always thought the redskins could use a tall receiver in the redzone or something. and we did only sign him for the league minimum or something. so its not like we are going broke because of him. and the chances are he wont even make the team. but it wouldnt be such a bad thing to have this guy. i think we just gotta give him a chance and see what he can do for us. if he sucks in these pre season games then we can all start going off.

Agreed save for the last part, why would we even start doing that? You just noted his contract means the team suffers no cap ramifications if things don't work out. If they do, great, if not, I'll repeat my initial reply in this thread: who cares?

I agree with most of what you are saying - I really think that there is no downside to having a bunch of guys to "look at" here especially given that Lloyd has not been able to practice - we have a lot of guys at this position right now and I think in the next 2 weeks this will all be settled - we will have a (hopefully) healthy Lloyd and that combined with the constant improvement (also hopefully) of Campbell will translate into a decent passing game.
At this time I'm more concerned about the line than the skill positions on offense. If our line is good (to very good) the rest will be fine IMO.

I think this is one of those signings just to add a body for preseason so the others can get plenty of rest and be healthy when the season starts. He won't be suiting up opening day...

Our secondary is going to make some players hurt this year. In every position upgrade I think we brought in someone who can hit harder than the guy before him: Fletcher over Marshall, Rocky over Holdman, Smoot over Wright, and of course Landry over Archuleta / Fox. It won't matter if you're going short, over the middle, or long. . .we'll have someone there aiming to take your head off.
Landry's hit on Collins was awesome and (I hope) a taste of things to come. I bet we'll be seeing him run in on more than a few blitzes this year. And everything that the players and coaches have been saying about Taylor's shift to a 'centerfielder' type position has me
