And the same can be said for TC. He has never produced at this level, and all of a sudden after one preseason game you are ready to pencil him in as our #2?

I'm not exactly happy about the possibility of seeing Brunell OR Collins as our #2 QB but I do think that Gibbs is very cogniscant of what is happening at this position on our team. I would be really surprised if we see a QB this season that cannot complete a 10 yard pass play as some here have claimed. I think that Gibbs (and Saunders) have a better idea of who is the better back-up than (almost) everyone here
I'm not certain who will be the #2 QB here this year but I am certain that Gibbs (and Saunders) will have someone that gives the team the best chance to win should we need to replace Campbell (God forbid!)
as a matter of interest - can anyone identify when the cut down dates are between now and the time when we are at the "starting" 53?

I hope Palmer lights up the Steelers so we can watch the um, brethren, scurry from the TC bandwagon over to the Palmer bandwagon.

That would be funny were it not so accurate

Seats are only available for those who: 1) complained when we drafted Palmer; 2) whined about Collins being on the team up until last week; 3) promoted Collins to backup after last weeks pre-season game; then 4) dump Collins when Palmer completes 2 passes to Pinkston in the final drive against the Steelers...

Must be nice to be so certain

You've got to be kidding me. If you can't see that Brunell is washed up you must be smoking something. Don't you remember last year? 93 swing passes in a row? Defenses are practically laughing at him. If I was the opposing defense, I wouldn't even bother to cover anyone further than 10 yards downfield because not only can't Brunell throw that far, he doesn't even LOOK that far.
Collins threw a perfect pass down the middle for 30+ yards that almost went for a TD. I think the last time I saw one that good Mark Rypien was QB. I don't care if the opposing DBs were scrubs, they had that pass COVERED and Collins still got it in there. I'll take losing with Collins, who at least has the damn guts AND talent to get it in there over MB's 5 yard dink and dunk game ANYDAY.
I appreciate the hell out of what MB has done for this team but his career is OVER.

Yeah, Joe Gibbs and Al Saunders and myself all roll a fat blunt pregame and watch tapes of the 1997 Jaguars and base our conclusions on those. We also consider the opinion of fans on message boards though who base their conclusions on one preseason game against third string opponents. Oddly enough, we still find that we're more rational. You'd think the paranoia would make that impossible but, nope, even blazed out of our minds, we still go with Brunell. Something about having an actual track record, who knows, I can't remember.

Oh, well I guess we can just wrap this thread up then. If You, Joe Gibbs, and Al Saunders all say so, no need to discuss it.

What is there to discuss? Brunell is a football god, and he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Brunell has earned his spot. Didn't look good in pre-season but he's old...
Everyone forgot how bad Todd Collins looked last year in pre-season.
As far as I'm concerned very QB but Campbell should be cut. WE NEED TO DRAFT ANOTHER ONE THIS YEAR!

Even though I would prefer to have Brunell as far from the team as possible, this thread for the most part is pointless because if Campbell goes down for any significant period of time this team is sunk. Brunell is done and over-the-hill and Collins has never actually done anything as a starter.

You maybe correct.
There remains a group that want Brunell off the team no matter what anyone here or more importantly anyone connected to the coaching staff may feel about that.
I would agree that the Redskins at this time do not have an even close to capable QB available behind their starter like most other teams do (especially like the Eagles did last year) but I think that Brunell or Collins will be here as the back-up and despite last week I would think that Brunell has the edge.
Brunell is done and over-the-hill and Collins has never actually done anything as a starter.
Why do we all keep using these 2 "facts"? Gibbs and Saunders must be blind, if they can't see what most here are seeing?
I'm sure that if you're correct then neither will get a chance to be on the field - however, as unlikely as this may seem to you (and especially the Brunell haters) if Gibbs thinks that either is capable then we may see that QB on the field in a game this year
Hey, it is what it is and I strongly agree, we have to hope that Campbell does not get injured but I also think it would be irresponsible (and fiscally wrong) to just let Brunell go because of last year and his apparent poor showing last week.
I will say this one more time - Brunell must be showing Gibbs (and Saunders) something or he would not be here.
Maybe they will have to let him go but that choice will be made (thankfully, IMO) by Gibbs for all the right reasons.

After the Steelers game don't even try to defend Brunell now, Collins is a better player.

I'll admit, Collins looked very sharp against the Steelers, and is making a valid push for #2 - but he would still have to show it in a real game for me to seriously think of him as a "good" quarterback.

In Mark's defense (and I'm usually not one to defend him - I wanted Campbell to start
last year), he was throwing to third stringers who were falling down on routes, dropping balls, etc. He wouldn't have looked so poor Sat. night if he'd been with the first team.

It seems to me that both Collins and Mark have weak arms but Collins knows the offense better than Mark. Collins can pretty much make a play because he knows were all the saftey valves are and can get it out there without too much delay.
At this point in their careers, I think Collins could possibly have an easier time in this offense than Brunell. All Collins has to do is throw the ball, our coaches don't really allow any of our QB's to take the reigns.
