I have bantered about this on AVS over a year ago. Most if not all multiplatform games are first developed for the 360, then ported to the PS3. No Kool aid here bro, just going on what I have researched over the years. If you have hours to kill and this stuff interests you here are a couple of threads with more info than most will ever need. The first thread is the most important to all here who want a processor analysis. The second is more slanted towards game development.

Enjoy.

I know that most ports are based off of the 360 for now, but it's not 95%. That was my point. Plus you're about 5 months too late with this info.

Oh OK, you know but still call me out? I threw the 95% out there off the cuff, would you have been happier if I said 90%? Do you honestly think that more than 10% of multiplatform games are being developed for the PS3 and then ported to the 360? And I don't really understand your comment about being 5 months too late with info? The threads were meant to shed some light on why it is hard to develop on the PS3 platform and the performance between the two systems with some technical foundation. Basically I wanted to provide you some reading material other than fluff since you seemed interested in the topic although in retrospect you seem to not be able to evaluate any position that does not agree with your own views.

I started gaming on an Atari 2600 in 1980 and have witnessed the evolution first hand so they all look good to me Xbox, PS3 whatever....this is not a pissing contest.

Well my 360 died on me (red lights) but I did get to play before it died today.

The gameplay is great, all madden is hardcore and the 60fps for the 360 is great...

BUT!

I swear EA did not test this game... You will get up to 4 fumbles a game and thats on the low end. Read the review at www.ign.com. Its like the players are coated in vaseline. Moss, Cooley, Portis all drop passes like there's no tommorow and if they catch it, its a fumble.

In practice mode there were 3 fumbles in on play.

I just got it tonight for my PS3. Two things I can't seem to figure out:

1. I can't seem to see the receiver's routes like I could with 07! Is there any way to do this? (I think it was L1 before.)

2. Still don't know how to fair catch a punt!

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

On the bright side, my first game was against the Steelers. Both Sean Taylor and Laron Landry returned INTs for TDs. Awesome.

Hold your right arm high above your head, and wave it back and forth, left to right.

On the 360 you have to hold down the trigger while pushing left on the right thumbstick.

Fair catch, I dunno.

Anyone else notice how fast Landry is.........Man he's the fastest guy on the field. I could quickly run over to tip a pass. And when they ran a sweep, With Landry I could run around the corner and get them in the backfield. And using safty blitz, Man he's just fast.

Also, they have Lloyd with the ablility to make the "spectacular catch". I threw to him deep a couple of time and he made great catches.

As for the droped passes Chris...

The person I was playing with, was the Atl and Jenkins droped passes like crazy, I didn't have that problem.. Well , I did have two droped by ARE. But, I didn't think it was a problem with the game, everyone drops one sometimes.. And after seeing the preseason game.....Maybe its just realistic for ARE to have drops..

I hate to say it but I am very skeptical of EA's effort...the last few versions for the 360 have been utter junk. The fumble glitch seems to be a major mistake. I guess I will at least rent it...but doubt if I will buy it again this year.

All Pro NFL 2k8 seems like a breath of fresh air to me. The only thing that sucks about that one is that too many easy interceptions are dropped...but it happens on both sides.

CLL, that sux, I am feeling for ya man. I hope you got one of those "warranty" deals from the store you bought it at. When mine died I just took it back to Best Buy (I did buy the warranty plan) and they got a new one off the shelf for me. Only 20 minutes of "fun"... but that is still better than the 2 mos it takes to send it to Bill's peeps.

Anyone notice Mick Vick is still the starter for Atlanta??

Just find that surprising when they won't even show the QB Challenge on NFLN because of MV and all his endorsements droped him, but its ok to have him in Madden for all the kids to play as MV.

Im not at all mad because he's in the game, just mad cause we can't watch the QB challenge.

He'll be removed with the 1st patch. There wasn't enough time to take him out of the game. With EA's half way of doing things, Id rather them take their time.

ANyone remeber the patch that made one player the size of an ant? You could only see him if you zoomed in on replays and he was still 100% functional. lol

I took Vick and Glenn and released then while changing their positions to like TE or something.

It effectively removes them from the game.

What I hate about this time of year is that I am a perfectionist about the rosters and I like them to be realistic as possible, but it's still too early in training camp to get everyone on the roster who belongs.

Further impressions:

The fumbling issue really gimps the game a bit for me. I love to run the ball and EA really kicked it up a notch. The mario running is gone, thank goodness. But with the gang tackling feature, it's impossible to skate past defenders and you really need to work the player. That's a good thing but NOT until EA patches the fumbling problem. Spinning and juking all increase an already high probability of fumbling.

My only other issue is with our WR's dropping the ball so much. Lloyd and ARE might as well not even be on the field. Sure they'll catch a pass here and there but only Moss is a sure thing and sadly everyone usually doubles him. Cooley is pretty decent too.

The game is very deep this year and if EA can path the fumbling problem like they did with the fatigue issue last year, this year will get a 9/10. I'm really digging it.

I must note that EA's BEST effort came when...a 2k game was released. WOW!!! It's amazing what competition provides for the consumer!

Im seeing the problem more the more I play it. After that, I've started tucking the ball more. That really helps, I have not had a fumble when tucking and as long as I'm not late doing a spin. I had some drops last night with Moss.

Hey Chris what skill do you play with.. The Rookie, Pro, All-Pro etc.....

I played against the G-Men on rookie and stomped the 94-14 with 7 Min quarters.

I then played the Pats on the hardest.... and well lets just say I only played till halftime...

Competition is healthy! :) Plus 2ks running game is outstanding. Bout time Madden tried to catch up.

From what I've been reading it seems like EA has addressed alot of what has been driving me nuts with their recent installments. I will have to check Madden 08 out thoroughly...after the fumble patch...cause I know a few controllers would be in danger.

I play on two settings. When I'm playing online in a ranked match, it's defaulted to all-pro.

When I play offline, I typically play All-madden once I get the controls down.
All Madden was where I was having difficulty with fumbling and drops. It's toned down a bit on all-pro but you have to be intelligent with your throws.

I played on rookie last night just to fool around and spanked the cowboys 70-0.

Had 2K not released a game, we'd still have a bunch of issues with this game. I had a quote of an EA boss basically displaying how much they hate 2K.

**** Guys! It now appears that you must hold down RB for the WR's also. Not just when you're about to get tackled but directly after you catch the ball! It'll prevent the DB's from stripping/knocking it out of your hand.

ARE drops passes like his name is Carlos, I'll have to try this out tonight.

As evidenced by their sneaky lawyer ploy. Worst decision by the NFL ever...really stunted the growth of the football games. Madden is actually the only series I consider from EA anymore (Madden definitely has the best pre-snap and strategy depth out there), all the other sports I like the competitors version more. I think it is because EA rarely thinks outside the box anymore.

I just wanted to add that along with holding the protect ball button after the catch you have to hold the Y button to do a possesion catch and tap Y to do a fast catch and then turn upfield. I didn't find this out until last night when I did the reciever drills. I wasn't sure if anyone caught that. Pun intended. Try it out, it works.

I really like this years Madden. It reminds me a lot of 04/05 (old gen. which I thought was the best they had made. This is very similar but it looks better and plays more realistic.

06 & 07 were terrible compared to this. It's about time!

My fam/friends play on all-madden and it's great. My cousin was whipping my tail using the Ravens defense against the Skins. The Ravens have the highest defense in the game and will pick it off as many times as you allow them to. I often foud my WR's tipping the ball to Landry or Reed... So... My record was getting blemished and I was pissed so I started to use the Patriots to counter his team and learn what plays to use. My brother and cousin are simple players, they run 3 plays max on both sides of the ball and of course they're money plays.

I'd just like to report that I beat both 21-0 with 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter (5 min quarters) on all-madden. Anyone has has Live is welcome to get beat at any time.

My two questions still linger:

1) Is there a way you can see the receivers routes after picking your play? In '07, I think I just held down the L1 key to do this. I can't do it in '08.

2) Is there a button you push to fair catch a punt?

If you're playing a next-gen system you hold either RT (360) or R2 (PS3) and then hit up on the right joystick to view you're play.

Fair catch is Y (360) or Triangle (PS3)
