Report: Vick indicted in dog fighting case

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Brunell will be considered and he could still give them a decent season. But Culpepper is in the driver seat to play there.

That would mean Culpepper would be the back up to Joey Harrington for the second year in a row on two different teams! How many times does that happen?

I was under the impression that he had signed long-term with the Kennedy Junior High "Purple Giants." I guess he sold out and asked for the trade after all.

First off, the indictment is very precise and the grandy Jury has a 95% success rate.

Second off, the NFL is saving themselves. If they let him go, there would be hundreds of protestors around the Falcons training camp and most likely NFL HQ.

Vick is as close as he can get to fried toast.

Co-defendant: Vick bankrolled dogfighting ring
NFL.com wire reports

RICHMOND, Va. (July 30, 2007) -- One of Michael Vick's co-defendants pleaded guilty Monday to his role in a dogfighting conspiracy he says was financed almost entirely by the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.

As part of a plea agreement, Tony Taylor pledged to fully cooperate with the government in its prosecution of Vick and two other men accused of running an interstate dogfighting enterprise known as "Bad Newz Kennels" on Vick's property in rural Surry County.

"The 'Bad Newz Kennels' operation and gambling monies were almost exclusively funded by Vick," a summary of facts supporting the plea agreement and signed by Taylor states.

My friend said he heard it on ESPN radio. I doubt there is any chance the rumor is true.

Beside Gibbs would never let Brunell go.

I'm the biggest Brunell loyalist, and even I'm confounded by this rumor.

I'm not sure whether this says more about Brunell's skills or Joey Harrington's lack of them.

Any word on this juicy rumor?

NFL.com has a big red 'breaking news' banner on their site as well, but as of yet - no info (3:00pm).

No real news until Aug 27th.

RICHMOND, Va. - Michael Vick’s lawyer said Monday the NFL star will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, putting the Atlanta Falcons quarterback’s career in jeopardy and leaving him subject to a possible prison term.

The offense is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, although federal sentencing guidelines most likely would call for less.

“After consulting with his family over the weekend, Michael Vick asked that I announce today that he has reached an agreement with federal prosecutors regarding the charges pending against him,” lead defense attorney Billy Martin said in a statement.

“Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter.”

Vick’s plea hearing will be Aug. 27, Martin said.

Vick is charged with conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture.

Martin’s announcement came as a grand jury that could add new charges met behind closed doors. Prosecutors had said that a superseding indictment was in the works, but Vick’s plea likely means he will not face additional charges.

Vick's career should be over which is an unfortunate event. This is a lesson that has cost him MILLIONS of dollars. Now he will put into a ring (jail) and have to fend for himself.

He'll most likely go to a celeb prison and I wouldn't be shocked to see a team pick him up once he gets out.

Chris do you honestly believe the Skins can get that inexchange for Brunell, or are you simply setting high conditions for a trade, in order to keep him in DC?

I suspect he won't be doing "hard" time... more likely in one of those Federal Resort... er... excuse me... Rehabilitation Facilities. Besides, he still has the cash to purchase all the posse he needs.

I agree on both counts. He will put in his time in prison and in the meantime make a PR campaign about his changed life (ESPN may be boycotting him now, but they will eat up interviews and specials near the time of his return). He may change on the inside, too.

But, the point is that in 2 years (more likely for his actual time served than 3 years; it could even be less than 2) he will be a 29-30 year old quarterback who is still very athletic and will likely be hungry for another chance in the NFL. At that point, teams will have QBs comparable to the quality level of Brooks Bollinger, Aaron Brooks, and Rex Grossman. Vick will get another roster spot in the NFL (and perhaps another big paycheck after a year or two). If he wants it badly enough.

For those hoping that Vick will be tortured in prison in the same way that he tortured dogs, you might be out of luck. Like CLL said, he could very well end up in a celeb prison, and secondly, the guy is jacked and won't have any problems making influential friends in prison.

A sad but very likely indictment of the US legal system. Sad but true, justice is -not- equal for all.

True. Vick has committed a federal offense and will be sentenced in a federal court. I saw a documentary about how federal prisons, such as Leavenworth, aren't nearly as tough as state penitentiary's or county jails. Vick will end up spending 18 months in a country club ... heading up a new gambling ring.

I understand that there are "reports" that when he is available again there will be a number of teams that will try and sign him

I would be very surprised if the Redskins were in that "market" and that is fine with me
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I'm not sure how writing yourself a note (or having someone else write it) makes a difference in sincerity. I don't know whether he was sincere or not, but if I had one shot at making a statement of that magnitude, I'd sure as heck write down the important things I wanted to talk about. Heck, every week on the B. Lloyd show I write down little 1-3 word phrases to help me remember to cover the things I want to cover.

If you're apologizing for something, you should know what your apologizing for. You shouldn't have to have a reminder. That was one of my points.
