Again, you're comparing two different systems under two different QB's. It's not a fair comparisoin. I covered that already and now remeber why I didn't quote this.

brad7686 wrote:You want to talk about bad run defenses? Portis averaged 3.6 ypc vs. INDY last year. INDY.

I coulda sworn Indy shut down one of the best running teams in the super bowl.

Didn't Portis have injured shoulders? DOesn't a RB lead with his shoulders?

The system doesn't matter? That's a ridiculous statement ... and he STILL HOLDS THE SINGLE-SEASON RECORD ... you can't simply blow by that because it makes your argument more difficult.

   I would have said it was a terrible statement...

Fios, I apologize because I didn't realize what you were saying earlier.

I have underrated the offensive lines progress throughout the season. THe light bulb came on and I realized that Betts was playing behind an o-line that finally grasped the system. The offensive line was still screwing around when CP was in there and around the time he went out, and JC came in, it all started to click.

Betts was playing in the offense thought brought us Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes.....

So Brad, you say Portis was made because of Denvers system???

I argue that Betts was made because of Al's system and his track record of great RB's........

Yet Clinton Portis has been consistent throughout 3 different offenses. Betts has finally found an offense that my dead grandmother could run in and now he's all of a sudden a beast?

Didnt you knock CP for being made because of the system?
Didn't you call us all hypocrites earlier?
Doesn't this make you seem a bit hypocritical?

Please show me his lack of production? Show us how 1500 yards is a lack of production.

Who excused a lack of production? I just blew holes on your horrible comparision between Portis and Betts. You simply cannot use the 2006 year as a basis for Betts is better. Portis hasn't played in the system for a full year and he was injured. You can use the previous Gibbs years but Betts didn't do good in those years.

 Eclipsing every REDSKIN RB in history is "drop off" in production to you?

Are you not able to comprehend how a passing game of over 3 yards an attempt will stretch a defense?

Did you not hear the safety from Green Bay state that his team knew that MB wouldn't throw the long ball and it allowed them to focus soley on CP?

How many 8 man fronts did Betts see in contrast to the fronts that Portis saw in 2005? It definitely was a lot less.

CP was 4th in the ENTIRE LEAGUE IN RUSHING IN 2005.
CP was 8th in the ENTIRE LEAGUE in rushing in 2004.
CP WAS 5TH IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE IN 2003.

  Drop Off? Dude that was a terrible post.[/quote

Yea drop off. Here's a stat for you. In the magic "2005 greatest season ever oh my gosh lets purchase portis jock off ebay" season he only amassed about 150 more total yards then betts had last year when he didnt even start that much. And also i dont think philly is that bad that every rb should get 171 yards rushing against them every time. You want to talk about bad run defenses? Portis averaged 3.6 ypc vs. INDY last year. INDY. And by drop off i mean check his denver numbers. Def not worth champ bailey now. OVER A WHOLE YARD DIFFERENCE IN YARDS PER CARRY. And don't call my posts terrible they have more meaningful stats than yours. You keep posting total rushing yards numbers but if someone gets run into the ground then they will have to produce. Look at the yards per carry.

here it is.

youre the one who said prove it first. Go back in your glass house. I've never seen anyone cop out as much as you do. And no I'm not here to play devil's advocate, just because i don't like portis unlike everybody else on here doesn't mean i'm wrong. Democracy doesn't always work. Look at who ended up in office. The majority isn't always right.

THat it right there. If you read my earlier post I said this already.

You dont like CP. Thats there difference between you and I and it's evident in your posts. You don't give CP credit for anything yet give Betts credit for what MIGHT be a fluke. ( i doubt it) I give Betts his due and have praised him.

I can't take u seriously if your entire argument is based off of "i dont like him".

No because i compared Portis to denver where he played well, and then here where he dropped off. Betts would have to go to another team, and then suck like portis did, in order for that to be the same thing.

Frankly, this whole Portis v. Betts debate is silly. Anyone who thinks Betts is the better back, based solely on one good half-season as the starter, is beyond logic. I'm not saying Betts didn't step up in the 2006 season - he clearly did - but he's got to do it longer before anyone can say he's better than Portis. That's the bottom line.

I didn't say he's better than portis, I said hes closer to portis than most think and that portis was unnecessary spending who whines and is overrated.

Look at how Betts fared in Gibbs system. I know RB's need to get into a rhythm but didn't light it up for Spurrier either. It's not pure coincidence that Betts lit it up all of a sudden. He's in a great system now with a good QB.

But I feel that you really have no argument anymore, you wont even rebut anymore. You just don't like CP and it's pointless to debate with someone in that state of mind.

Thats what I said about 20 posts ago.

You have a valid debate but UNTIL we seem them BOTH running under the SAME CIRCUMSTANCES (for the most part) it's impossible to discern who is better. This time 2007, you may be correct. Who knows what will happen? Im just glad they're both running well.

Yea i got caught up in the argument. I don't completely dislike portis. I just kind of lump him in with how bad the team's personnel philosophy is. Not his fault as an individual. Hopefully they can both stay healthy.

I say he should play a few downs here and there; however, when a player from the opposing team makes an interception and starts running for a TD...CP should just give that brutha a pass and let him waltz into the endzone!

And that pretty much sums it up. They're both good, and they're both going to be on our roster come the regular season. Nice problem to have, especially on a team that likes to feature the run. Having two solid, multi-dimensional RBs is really going to take some pressure off JC his first full year as a starter, and should really open up the passing game. I'm really, really excited about what our offense can do, and can't wait for the season to start. :D

WOW!! That was fun you two should debate CP and Betts more often.

Portis needs to just get the guy by the legs. He tried to jack him up, thats why he got hurt.
