Because he coached the Rams defense when they were both there and he knows how to use him. Williams didn't.

It seems to me Williams doesn't know how to coach players, just schemes, why do we keep him around, to many good players over the last few years have came to DC and let their careers die.

I agree!

What about Antonio Pierce? He was nothing more than a special teams stand out.......if even that until Williams got here! Heck, the argument could be made that Pierce would be flipping burgers right now if Williams didn't get here! I'm sorry, but Williams had to coach that guy up to run his number three ranked defense!

Don't forget about Williams first year with us either! Out of the Eleven original starters on opening day only three were still starting on the last game of the season. Sorry, but Williams had to coach up his second and third string guys to get the job done! I mean, if I'm not mistaken wasn't someone by the name of Garnell Wilds shutting down Randy Moss on known passing downs that game?

You can't use the "Williams doesn't know what he's doing" thing when one player comes here and takes his money then walks away. Blame the front office if you want, but don't blame Williams.

It's easy to just criticize, particularly when repeating the lazy media who pile on a story like the unending Williams bashing. Sure he's had a great career, but he had a bad year, he sucks. Far better then piling on the nobody coaches who have accomplished nothing their entire careers and won't be coaching long, they don't suck, Williams does. Sure.

But hey, if it makes someone feel better about themselves to criticize then it has served some purpose, I suppose.

If Archuletta was the player that spoke to the press during the season, then he just had to go. If a 6th rounder is the best we can do, then so be it. Actually, we could use that 6th rounder to replace him.

If nothing else, this gets rid of a distraction from the team. It ends a sorry chapter, and hopefully we can move on from here.

Let's just hope that it's a lesson learned.

But re-signing Stoutmire as well? Talk about going full circle.

Hate to bring up old things but I have to. Remember one unnamed player spoke out last year. He thought it was all GW who "did what he did" to Arrington, "Just like he has done to AA, taking him out of the game". I the players believe this, and have hard fealings about it, AA being traded won't help that situation.

If I'm remebering the story right.

sorry - I think you're reading way too much into this - i think this was the result of our guys thinking - well we can keep him and we now know where and how to use him OR we can get a pick and move on - end of story - like I said before, I think this is best for all concerned - sure we would have liked to get something more but that is always the case.

OK, Why do we happen to end up getting the trash and the same product ends up being a treasure elsewhere?

No need to answer, really. It is a rethorical question of course.

We should not be unhappy about this offseason at all. Common sense seems to have returned to Redskin Park. Strange but true. They are acknowledging their errors and cleaning house. Sure it hurts to have spent so much money and picks in players like AA or Duckett but order is being restored and, as painful as it might be, they have to clean house.

I do expect a change in the front office during the offseason, probably just after the draft. Vinny is not doing his usual damage. He seems to have been marginalised (gladly!).

They got a 6th round pick for a guy that didn't fit.
They paid him $30M for 7 years, with $10m guaranteed with low base salaries in the first few years. Had he came in and did what everyone thought he would do we wouldn't have this thread. (we do have something to thank the man for).

Last year's performance was due to injuries to other players that forced him into a role that he wasn't brought in to play. He failed at that role and became the highest paid Personal protector in the history of football (any kind of football  ).
At the end of year one he's pocketed a little of $5m....

What happens if they keep him now that PP and (maybe SS) will be back and healthy? Maybe they can use him like they originally planned, but that would cost them the additional $5M. Why because of the split bonus (this is the portion of the bonus that was held back for 1 year), the bonus was split "just in case" something like what happened happened. :?

Had he been paid the $10m upfront it would be no way to cut/trade him for at least another year or two and each year his cap # would grow. Then what happens if the team is hit with the injury bug again this year, do the put AA back in the game to play a position they know he is weak at?

Now that the Bears have agreed to pick up the 2nd half of the bonus and AA has reworked his deal, he became tradeable. Basically it turns out Arch $30m/7year deal as become a 4 year/$14m deal. Instead of being stuck with a guy for 2/3 more years that would be out of position whenever the team isn't at full strength, we freed up the spot for someone that would be better able to step in (Omar has already been signed) and a late round draft pick. More than anything he freed up cap space in the next two years that will benefit the team.

Believe it or not but this shows that the Redskins didn't just throw money at Adam but they gave him a lot to see what he had. It shows that the team had a plan

Speaking of plans: still have almost $8m under the cap, there is another big move out there waiting to happen 8)

Wasnt that the same Randy Moss that left the field in disgust before the game was over, All reports that day is that Randy hardly even tried to play a game, and Garnell Wilds, what happened to him? Im sorry guys if you don't agree, but I have seen more bad than good on our defence since Williams got here, my count is 2 bad years and 1 good, but if im not mistaken the defence got worse this past year. Why exactly do us Redskin fans praise this guy. His defence was solid in tennessee, he was a lousy head coach in Buffalo, and ive seen nothing in DC to deserve the praise he gets.

I don't buy into that! That was a game the Vikings had to have to make it into the play offs. Randy left that game early not because "he didn't try", but because he did try and Greg Williams 2ND AND 3RD STRINGERS kept shutting down his efforts.............ALL GAME LONG!!!! He finally cried Daddy! Then left! Seeing him leave like that was freakin beautiful, wasn't it?

but I have seen more bad than good on our defence since Williams got here, my count is 2 bad years and 1 good

Really!?!? My count is two good and one bad............I could have sworn we had the 3rd best and then the 9th best in Williams first two seasons. And Williams might have sucked as a head coach in Buffalo, but his defense didn't.

I'm not so sure. Hasn't the SB losing team always tanked the season after their SB appearance? Methinks the Bears won't return.

...thanks to Adam Archuleta.

Because he took a bunch of no name players like Antonio Pierce, Sala'vea, Wynn, Daniels, L. Marshall, added a couple of rookies, S. Taylor, Carlos Rogers and a couple of decent free agents, Grif., M. Washington and the injury riddled Springs and coached one of the best defenses in football. Everyone in football respected what he did in 2005. He could have easily left to go be a head coach again, because there was plenty of interest, but he chose to stay with the Skins. Lots of coordinators fail as head coaches. Like many before him, including his mentor Buddy Ryan, GW was born to be a DC and I think he knows it now. Last year's poor defense was an anamoly caused mostly by injuries and the Archuleta debacle. We'll be back at it this year.

I still think we could have gotten more than a sixth round pick. Who are we gonna get in the sixth round. We could of at least gotten a third or fourth rounder for a player who was solid before coming to Washington. Vinny C!! at it again. At least the damage has been minimal we got a sixth rounder. We most likely might have released him.

We did. We got some substantial cap relief.

We could of at least gotten a third or fourth rounder for a player who was solid before coming to Washington.
Not after last season, and especially not with the cap hit that came with him.

We most likely might have released him.
And taken the entire cap hit.
